First, let us give a small disclaimer. Stephen Cody's The Peasant Prince is a fantasy novel for Young Adults and it has been a long, long time since these elves were young adult readers, and we think it somewhat unlikely that our opinions express the views of modern teens. Still, we read a lot of YA fantasy because we find it is often much more readable than most adult fantasy novels that, in our opinion, tend to be way overwritten.
