Just finished reading After Moonrise and I have to agree with some of the readers. I enjoyed Possessed, BUT REALLY loved Haunted.

In Possessed, I did like the concept of a murderer who steals souls. It was definitely interesting. This story involved twins and one who was murdered. After Moonrise contains two Novella length written stories.

Both stories were adult stories and I enjoyed them both. The two stories are entwined throughout and both with the protagonists in both stories connected.

I really liked the After Moonrise link between the stories. The agency makes an appearance in each story and there are a few characters that appear in both stories.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the romance in Possessed. It felt a little rushed and a bit too much like insta-love for my liking. The nature of their semi-love triangle was a little strange and I think had Possessed been longer (and the romance and partnerships been allowed to grow a little more) I would have enjoyed the situation more. Despite being a similar length, I much preferred the relationship in Haunted. Levi and Harper felt more natural in their pairing and I enjoyed witnessing their relationship grow.

The mysteries in both stories were entertaining and delivered some twists that I wasn’t expecting.

Overall I enjoyed both stories and consider them to be representative of the authors work. I’d definitely recommend this collaboration for fans of PC Cast and Gena Showalter.

POSSESSED is a well-written and fast paced storyline with a HEA but it was a difficult ending for me. I knew within the first couple of chapters that I would not like the outcome of this particular storyline. Aubrey’s bubbly personality made it obvious that she was the dominant twin and her attraction and playful attitude with Raef had the detective focusing more on the ghost than on the person. Lauren soon became nothing more than a second thought and a vessel for her sister’s spirit. What would you do for love?

HAUNTED is the second storyline written by Gena Showalter. Oklahoma PD detective Levi Reid suffered blackouts and his most recent was a 7 day blank. Waking up in a new apartment, with new neighbors in a new neighborhood wasn’t what he had expected but when Aurora Harper stepped into his life he recognized a broken soul. On an extended leave of absence from the force, Levi would find himself in the middle of a missing persons investigation where the missing appeared to be alive and well, and he had more in common with Harper than he was willing to admit.

27 year old Harper, following a recent move into a new neighborhood, was also suffering blackouts and the feeling that she had witnessed a murder-a murder that she had somehow suppressed but her paintings, as she is an artist, have recently taken on a presence of their own. She is painting the image of a murder. And to complicate matters she could feel and taste the fear and horror, hear the screams of pain and something or someone was stalking her very existence. Along with her roommate Lana, Harper and Levi would embark on the long road to uncovering the truth behind the images Harper was painting and stopping a serial killer. But Levi suspected more than Lana let on when she disappeared and he discovered she was working for the Oklahoma After Moonrise Investigation Agency.

As the storyline continues, Harper and Levi develop feelings for each. Harper has a smart mouth and sexy attitude, and Levi is drawn to the spunky artist. But Harper’s painting will suddenly become personal and they will soon discover that their lives had taken a different path than they ever thought possible.

HAUNTED is another well-written, fascinating and amazing storyline from Gena Showalter. There is murder and mystery, as well as romance and sex. Gena draws the reader into the storyline and throws you a curveball at every chance. Our hero is sexy and sure, and our heroine has a take no prisoners attitude. Another wonderful story that will have you second-guessing the premise –you think you have it all solved until Gena changes the playing field.

In Possessed, Kent Raef's world gets turned upside down when Lauren Wilcox enters his office at After Moonrise. Although the police suspects it was accidental, Lauren knows her twin sister was murdered. She knows this because Lauren's twin, Aubrey, is communicating with her. And that's not all. Aubrey is still being tortured by her murderer even after death. Kent must find a way to save both sisters from this killer before its too late.

I really liked the start of this novel. I thought it was pretty solid and a good lead in to what the novel is about. It was intriguing and I liked the idea of psychic detectives that use emotions to find "the bad guy". But where the storyline for the romance was taken, was just a bit too weird for me and I didn't like it. Paranormal Romance novels are my favourite genre. They are my go-to books and so, not liking the romance in this book has really disappointed me. Everything else though I really enjoyed.

Haunted is the second book in the After Moonrise novel, and is written by Gena Showalter.

The book starts with us meeting Detective Levi Reid. He isn't exactly sure why he moved to his new residency, in the bad side of town, only that he experiences blackouts and one day found himself in his new place. He suspects these blackouts have something to do with being suspended from his work for attacking a suspect. But when his neighbour knocks on his door and asks for his help, all thoughts about his own problems vanish.
Aurora Harper thinks she's a witness to a brutal murder. The reason she only "thinks" this is because when she wakes in the morning it's to find herself with a paintbrush in her hand and a half finished painting of the brutal scene. Her best friend Lana (who works for After Moonrise) convinces her to talk to their neighbour, who is a "normal" detective, and ask for his help.

I really enjoyed this novel. It kept me guessing all the way and I was surprised with the way it ended. I also liked the romance. I'm a sucker for when two people from completely different upbringings get together. Aurora with her formal gowns and Levi with his foster homes couldn't be more different, and yet they are perfect for each other. Probably because Aurora, despite her upbringing, is no princess. I adored Aurora, she has spunk. And Levi is very alpha like, which is the perfect ingredient for a paranormal romance novel.

So far I have only read possessed, and I disliked it so much! That I had to rate it right away.1 I hated the fact that the ghost twin already had a thing for him and basically threw herself at him. I really enjoyed After Moonrise ! Possessed and Haunted offer something very different in the paranormal genre. Well for me at least...I haven't come across actual ghost stories written quite like this.

I'll start with Haunted . The depth and intricate plot was a nice surprise given it's a short story. It was layer upon layer of mystery, suspense and action. After Moonrise is no ordinary agency and they only handle cases of a paranormal nature and they now have two juicy murders to solve.

In Possessed, Kent Raef is a detective but not the usual kind; he a psychic detective and he tracks down people via emotions, violent ones, to be precise. The story follows him in his latest case which may lead to something more. Laura Wilcox comes to him with his mother to solve the murder of her twin sister who died recently and is communicating through possessing Lauren‘s body. Raef is the only who can help her, but he’s not easy to convince to take on the job. Lenora, his boss, tells him to take it as she has an inkling that he is having problems with his gift but it’s not an easy case. In addition, he is falling in love with one of the twins—but which one is the question.

I love this story; the characters I can understand and relate to, unlike the next story. There is a little bit of world building in this one to set up the agency but it takes a backseat to the main story. Kent Raef needs loving and Lauren needs answers about her sister’s murder so she can get peace from her sister. It makes for a hilarious story, which has it moments because of the turmoil going on. I won’t give details away concerning Kent and the past events and his current state of powers. To help this couple they may need Aubrey‘s help, Lauren’s twin, who has a naughty imagination.

The second story, Haunted, l took awhile to get into, it took a couple of sittings to read the first two chapters as it was completely different from the last story in writing style. There is a nice overlap with Lenora who happens to be Aurora’s friend and I found Lenora’s role in this story confusing. Like Kent, she works for the same agency and is the one with supernatural gifts but she is not the one who helps solve the murder in this case.

I found it weird at first that Lenora is in the story because I thought she would be the supernatural help for the case and it really stumped me at first reading as she is introduced in the first couple of chapters along with elements of the murder. Enter Levi Reed who has recently moved into the apartments and is on leave from the police force. Aurora is his neighbour and convinces him to help her when she shows him the painting and describes her scenes of the murder.

With only her mind and the painting as their own clues, they’re going to need all the breaks they can get to solve the mystery and the murder, if there is one.

I was expecting a lot of gore in this book since it has two murders involving violence but wasn’t really, the most is in the Haunted when Aurora goes over what she think is the murder and is replaying it in her head as the pieces start to emerge from her memories.

4 couples, but it’s more like 3.5 couples; I loved the first story, as I said before, but I’m so-so about the second story. It may be different for others but I related more to the story written by Cast than the one by Showalter.(less)

I jumped at the chance to read this book as it was something a little different from my usual paranormal picks. I have read a couple of Gena Showalter books before but this was my first foray into the writing of P.C. Cast.

Possessed was an interesting story that I read in one sitting. I liked Kent's character and enjoyed the storyline, despite a few misgivings about the odd romance angle. It was a quick and easy read that really sucked me in.

This one is hard for me to write, especially as a Gena Showalter fan since almost the beginning. I wasn't able to get into this novella the same way as with most of her books. For me it dragged on and was boring compared to her other books. Due to this and not being able to get into the book I didn't even read the whole thing, I skipped to the end so I could return the book to the library! While each tale combines romance, raunch, mystery and action both stories have strengths and weaknesses.
I really liked that they were linked by the AM (After Mooonrise) Agency as provides a framework that unites the stories despite their differences.
I thought the plot in Haunted to be stronger, even though I figured out the twist fairly early on (can you guess which whispered line from a popular movie was running through my mind), yet the premise of Possessed had some interesting and original elements.
I preferred the relationship that developed between Levi and Harper to the uncomfortable triangle in Possessed, though Cast deserves credit for creativity. The sex scenes in both tales are heated, balanced precariously between erotica and fade to black.
The characters in each story are well defined given the constraints of the format. The male leads, are the tortured alpha's common to the genre and the women have core strength despite their weaknesses.

Fans of Cast and Showalter will enjoy this offering as should those who readers who read within the genre, especially if you have a thing for ghost stories. I would not be surprised if further collaborations based around the After Moonrise Agency are already in the works.

i gave this book 3 stars because i only liked one story. P.C.Cast's story felt rushed, confusing and very under developed. i usually love her writing its usually very romantic and sweet but this was just ridiulous nonsense all smooched together onto a few pages. All the characters i found hard to like, i ended up skipping pages and yawning my way through the story. im glad this is not a continual series for her because she is so much better than this story.

After Moonrise consists of two short stories by two great authors. This combination makes After Moorise a must read for any paranormal romance fan. It would also be a great starting point for anyone new to the genre.

I had never read P. C. Cast before this book so was not sure what to expect. I very much enjoyed the twin idea & wondered how a murdered twin would communicate through the remaining twin not realizing that the concept of the two stories was based in a world where some had psychic gifts. This meant that communication was not an issue.

I liked the P. C. Cast book & will definetely look for more of her to read so I am glad to have found a new author.

It’s easy to see why P.C. Cast and Gena Showalter are NYT bestselling authors. I had great fun exploring the lure of paranormal romance with these two talented authors in AFTER MOONRISE. One of the greatest rewards of being a reviewer is that I get to discover ‘keepers’ for my growing library. These are two authors whose books I will be hunting down in bookstores to start a collection.

There is a nice overlap with Lenora who happens to be Aurora’s friend and I found Lenora’s role in this story confusing. Like Kent, she works for the same agency and is the one with supernatural gifts but she is not the one who helps solve the murder in this case.

I found it weird at first that Lenora is in the story because I thought she would be the supernatural help for the case and it really stumped me at first reading as she is introduced in the first couple of chapters along with elements of the murder. Enter Levi Reed who has recently moved into the apartments and is on leave from the police force. Aurora is his neighbour and convinces him to help her when she shows him the painting and describes her scenes of the murder.

With only her mind and the painting as their own clues, they’re going to need all the breaks they can get to solve the mystery and the murder, if there is one.

I was expecting a lot of gore in this book since it has two murders involving violence but wasn’t really, the most is in the Haunted when Aurora goes over what she think is the murder and is replaying it in her head as the pieces start to emerge from her memories.

4 couples, but it’s more like 3.5 couples; I loved the first story, as I said before, but I’m so-so about the second story. It may be different for others but I related more to the story written by Cast than the one by Showalter.(less)

i read 50 pages of this story which is almost half the book considering its only 117pages long but i just could not get into it. the writing style i just didnt like, couldnt get into the characters at all so i gave up.

I was sent this by the lovely people at Harlequin Australia, and I didn’t realise it had two stories in it until I started reading it (I don’t read blurbs – they ruin the story for me). In Possessed, Raef manages to have … relations … with a ghost, and it was pretty disturbing, especially when she inhabited her twin’s body to achieve this. Although, it was pretty clear where the story was going the first time Tracking positive emotions was mentioned. On the other hand, Haunted didn’t have the weird love scenes in it, but I was disappointed at how quickly Harper and Levi fell in love, although it was explained later on in the book.

Oh, and in Haunted, the phrase ‘giant man-hands’ was used. Yeah.

While both stories are essentially murder mysteries, I liked the one in Haunted more than the one in Possessed. Levi and Harper had to work hard to figure out the truth behind their blackouts and the strange things that happened around them. Possessed had a less compelling plot line, but the story was made interesting because of Raef and the powers he used to solve the case. It is very much a character driven story, while Haunted is plot driven, which probably explains why I liked Possessed a little better.

I think After Midnight will be great for readers who want to try a little of Gena Showalter’s or P. C. Cast’s work without committing themselves to their long series’ of books. Although I didn’t enjoy Haunted enough to want to try P. C. Cast’s books, reading Possessed has made me realise I may like Gena Showalter’s adult books more than I did her YA novel, Alice in Zombieland.

Urg, It pains me to say this but I was not a fan of P.C. Cast's story. if it wasn't for my extreme love of Gena Showalter I probably would have put this anthology down after the first few chapters of the first book. I just didn't like it.
However, I loved Gena's title! Witty, gritty and super suspenseful, this book kept me up into the wee hours of the night because I had to know what happened and how the story would wrap up. I was delighted by this story and hope more of this agency are to come!

If this book would have just contained "Haunted" by Gena Showalter, I would have strongly considered rating this book with 5 stars. However, "Possessed" by P.C. Cast was definitely not my cup of tea. "Possessed" was interesting but I just didn't like it overall. "Haunted" was amazing. I loved the storyline, the twists and turns and trying to figure everything out before it was revealed. I certainly hope to see more books featuring Harper, Levi and Lana.

I gave Haunted a try bc I loved G.Showalter but the characters didn't grasp my attention enough to keep me going. It's me, I'm sure and this always happened after a great read, sighs... Gideon & Eva...

...until another time when the afterglow has mellow out, I'll come back to this book.

Unlike other reviewers, I was not thrilled with Haunted. I actually liked Possessed much better. I'd be interested in reading more in the After Moonrise world if PC Cast was writing it.
