i thought this book had its little drama in a way. it was just harder to understand because it was in poetry form and it was different entries. i think that this book really showed how a teenagers life could be. there are tons of ups and downs and a lot of stuff feels like the end of the world. there is always something to make it better though. also there was a lot of examples of growing up. a lot of teenagers try to grow up fast and be someone new for school because who really wants to be the More...

I was pleasantly surprised by this short book of poetry for two reasons. For one, I dislike poetry. Two, it's targeted towards a young adult audience without a broad library, the opposite of me despite being seventeen.
Not all of them poems were great, and none of them were mind blowing. For the subject matter of love, many were delightful. Considering how quickly read this can be--thirty minutes to an hour--it's worth the trip through this fictional girls' clouds.

While many of the individual poems were quite profound and lovely to read, this book lacked a sort of unifying theme. It didn't quite feel like there was much of a rising action, climax, and resolution happening here. This novel in poems was nowhere near as clever as the endeavors Sharon Creech has put forth in her effort to write novels through poems. Love That Dog is still one of my favorite books of all time.

A fairly good collection of poems, with beautiful collage-style illustrations. I think I would have liked this better if I had been 10 or 11 when I read this. (Although I probably wouldn't have liked the narrator's crushes on boys and the kissing.) Maybe I'm just being nitpicky, but I would've preferred if the main character had a name. i would be a ble to connect with her more.

A girl's book of poems. Poems about life at school, creative life, life at home, and life in love. Simple poems enhanced by collage-like illustrations, this short novel about a year in the life of a So Cal gal should please middle to early high school girls who like reading and writing. This would be a good addition to a classroom library.

The artwork on each page is just as appealing as the short poems that make up each page. Fun, witty, and dripping with girlhood thoughts, it completes a list of great early-teen reads for girls. Even some of the themes of specific poems can be used to teach poetry and make it fun.

The nameless narrator takes us through a year in her life: Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer. She reveals all--classes and crushes. Midnight thoughts and family.

What I thought: What a brilliant book! It reads very fast. I found myself drawn to the narrator. She, a poet, reminds me of myself as a teen. All the poems are great, but I especially like the meta-poetry. My favorite poems are "Writing Poetry," "Poetry Is My Underwear," Writer: Creator," "Waiti More...

So far in my book the narrator talked about her first year in school, then she talked about her secound year which turned out better than the first. The main charater were playing SEVEN MINUTES OF HEAVEN and she wanted to kiss Bill Berkmeyer. Mr.Barton told the main charater to stay for after school to publish her poem she did. This part makes me feel that he does read the students work. My favorite part of the book is spin the bottle because she really wanted that boy Divine Carlo and she got h More...

This was my first novel in poems. Through the main character, the author captured the hopes, fears, and awkwardness of middle school adolescence poetically. It's short and sweet.

I didn't really care for this "novel in poems." As a collection of poems, it was good, but it didn't really tell a story to me, which is the point of a novel.

So, I must say that poetry is not exactly my cup of tea. Although I could releate to this book, it wasn't my favorite. I did love the backgrounds to each picture, though. I spent a lot of time looking at them :D. I was impressed by the discovery in poetry throughout the book, even if it was from the author's experience and not this girl she was talking about.

Summary: 100 separate poems telling the story of a year in the life of an adolescent girl.

Personal Response: I really did not care for this book, although I can see the appeal for the reluctant adolescent girl reader, especially the creative child! It is effective in relating emotional ups and downs in a girl's life.

This book was a lot like real life -- confusing, seemingly pointless, often dull, maybe too short, but achingly real.

2 stars.
