An excellent book for cat owners new and old! I've owned cats for most of my life, thinking I knew just about all there is to know about them, but I learned quite a bit more from this book. I didn't know that cats have a sense of smell 10 times stronger than humans, that kittens are born with their claws extended, that cats don't start to purr until they're a week old, and why cats are able to lie on very hot surfaces without it seeming to bother them. That's just a few new things I learned.

I found this book under an end table while I was packing and got "sucked in." I like that the book focuses on body language and includes copious images to illustrate. Although the author's intent is not to "anthropomorphize" cats, to that end she takes a tone that sort of conveys cats as emotionless or wholly driven by instinct. Her approach, which I've encountered before and don't particularly like, is something along the lines of, "A cat sits on your lap because your l

After reading that book I should know what are my cats thinking, but it is still a mystery for me. Or my cats are weirdos...:) A basic guide to understanding cats's motions and behaviour. It's easy to read.

I really liked this book. I had no idea that direct eye contact was considered threatening and aggressive to cats, so it taught me how to best interact with my roomie's cat!

It had some interesting facts in it, but I didn't really like the format of the book. I found it a little hard to follow.

I thought it was slightly informative, but states a bit of the obvious and doesn't go very indpth.

Got this for our two cats since one thinks and the other doesn't. I thought it might average out somehow, but was wrong again, naturally. With cats, one is always wrong, I find.
Gwen Bailey has written a useful book for cat owners. Lots of pictures, lots of situations, and lots of interpretations of cat behavior come in handy at any stage of ownership. Nice book.

Similar in style and content to Jean Craighead George's book, this one has very detailed and varied pictures showing cats in all different poses of feeling and behavior. The text mostly described each picture, so while the book didn't have many new ideas for me, it was useful because it showed exactly what each cat emotion looks like -at least in the author's opinion.

This mostly made me feel guilty for keeping my cats indoors, but was very informative and interesting.

Cats have intense and subtle emotions! And if you're not careful they get neurotic!

A fun and easy read that offers good information about understanding kitty language. Cats prefer warm spots because their ancestors lived in the desert.
