Hex and the Single Witch (Vehicle City Vampires #1)
by
Roxanne Rhoads (Goodreads Author)
Anwyn Rose is descended from a long line of powerful witches yet she can barely cast spells young witchlings have mastered. She has one functioning witch gift, the power of knowing, which she puts to good use as a Detective on Flint’s Preternatural Investigation Team.

Anwyn Rose is a witch and a member of the Preternatural Investigation Team of Flint, Michigan. She is partnered with a steamy hunk of a man whose smarmy harassment seems to hide a delicious, Carmel-soft core and is tentatively sticking her toes into the supernatural dating realm with an emotionally damaged, possible dangerous, sex-on-a-stick vampire. Things regularly heat up. This is PNR, bordering on erotica. Yum

First I have to say I absolutely love the cover art for this book. It caught my attention right away. Though I know I'm not supposed to
"judge a book by it's cover" I often find myself turning away from boring covers and going for those that capture my interest more often than I should.

It seems I'm the odd fish out regarding this book. My experience with it has been well far away from 3, 4 or 5 stars.
My problems were:
--The writing. I read this book and it left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. It reminded my of a bottle of sparkling wine left open too long. It's utterly flat and has a weird taste, no matter how good the wine was. And, believe me, this wasn't a good bottle to begin with.

No one told me to have a glass of ice water at my side while reading Hex and the Single Witch. By the time I realized how much heat this book generates, I was too engrossed to put it down and too busy turning pages to go to the kitchen.
Passion, desire and hot, steamy sex are a big part of this book but there's so much more. The sign of good Erotica is removing the sex and seeing if you still have a story, otherwise it's just porn. Hex and the Single Witch delivers a great story. This paranormal...more

Vehicle City Vampires: Book One
By Roxanne Rhoads
Genre: Paranormal Erotic Romance
First Sentence: Vampires strutted their stuff on a runway to Right Said Fred’s “Too Sexy.”
A favorite line (about the ominous energy in the air): It literally hung in the air like an invisible fog, clinging to everything, catching spirits and emotions in a net of negativity.
Review:

To be honest this series totally reminds me of a mixture of the Anita Blake Series (Laurell K. Hamilton), Stella Mayweather Series (Camilla Chafer) and the Graveyard Queen Series (Amanda Stevens). You've got your love triangle between a human, a witch and a vampire and all of the amazing preternatural things happening around them in Vehicle City. I'm seriously loving this combination and looking forward to the rest of this series.

Wow!! What a great start to what I am sure will be a long pined after series!! Roxanne does a great job of creating "real" characters that you can relate to and become invested in. All of the characters are well developed and create a unique storyline that is mysterious and encompasses you to the last word! I absolutely love Anwyn (which means beautiful pure and fair). She is a well rounded character that you definitely route for all through the book. There is some heat to this novel so be ready...more
Detective Anwyn Rose was liaison for the preternatural division of the Flint Michigan police department and a witch with wonky powers. She was called out to read visions of the recently departed at crimes scenes. Since her dad was killed fifteen years ago in the uprising where vampires devoured her father when he was shot doing his job protecting citizens her mom had snapped and she mentally withdrew leaving her gram to raise her. She came from a long line of powerful witches, yet she couldn't c...more
What first drew me to this book was the cover, it's gorgeous and had me wanting to read it without even knowing what the book was about, but after reading the synopsis I was sold and definitely wanted to give this book a go.
And I absolutely loved it, and I'm excited that it's part of a series and that we get to read even more about Anwyn, Mike and Galen and their world.

I was so excited to pick up this book! I’ve been on the look out for a paranormal thriller and this hit me at just the right time! Technically, it’s a paranormal romance, and, boy! Let me just tell you, it’s that too! In SPADES!! But the plot was what I was searching for, and Ms. Rhoads didn’t disappoint me here. At all!
I love the fact that Ms. Rhoads chose to write a mc who wasn’t really awesome. She’s a witch who has no super extraordinary gift. She can basically feel when things are right or...more

Hex and the Single Witch is a tale about a single witch that finds herself caught in the middle of some supernatural murders where one side of her love triangle could be the murderer.
First let’s start off with the love triangle part. Anwyn the young and lovely witch has not one but two guys wanting her. I’m normally a sucker (no pun intended) for vampires but in this love triangle I was rooting for the human all the way. Where Galen the vamp didn’t do anything for me; I was fanning myse...more

Anwyn Rose is the supernatural liaison of the P.I.T. (Preternatural Investigation Team) Crew in Flint, MI. She is a witch with the ability to "read" a person by touching them; whether they are alive or dead. Her talent is being put to good use in Vehicle City where a string of murders is plaguing this dying city. It seems that Flint has a new vampire in town that is killing off women left and right but able to block himself from Anwyn's sight as she reads the victims.

In the beginning I thought the book would be as atmospherical as "Dead Witch Walking" from the Hollows Series, but I was mistaken. The heroine, Anwyn, was a slut, trying to persuade us she is not. I don't have a problem if she was really one, but messing with the hearts of 2 men considering them both as her boyfriends and feeling jealous of them watching the threesomes, well... I was not convinced. As for the witch part, well, you and I could be more witches than her. (Ah yes, she was hexed, I f...more
I was all caught up in the witch/cop/vampire mix. I kept pulling for the cop. But then the vamp would entrance me & I was torn. I must have the next installment. So glad this was referred to me. I really love the paranormal theme. Especially when there are witches in the mix. Cant wait to find out how powerful she becomes. I really like Mel also. Great Friend & powerful witch. Her mom & Grandma left me feeling dissed, Like they just did not need her. Kinda got the vibe there might be...more

My English review
I was very intrigued by this novel when I read the summary and I was therefore curious to discover this new book by Roxanne Rhoads. I must say that I was quite surprised by the story itself, I was expecting a fairly typical urban fantasy novel, but it is quite different from that. The romance side has an essential place in the story, it is indeed what leads the plot and the investigation of our heroine.

I wish there was a way for me to give this book 3.5 stars, as right now I am wavering between a 4 for story and 3 for writing. As much as I enjoyed the story - and it was a fun story with witches, vampires, fae, and the start of an interesting back story of a 'Others' war that happened when the heroine was a child - I had serious issues with grammatical errors and loose writing. After a few times of coming across such things as 'shear' for 'sheer', 'taught' for 'taut', 'full proof' for 'fool pro...more
Vampires, Witches and hunky police officers...what is not to like?! The synopsis caught my attention and I figured lets give this one a try. I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed this story. I started the book in hopes of getting sleepy and I had to turn off my Kindle to go to bed, it was hard. 5 minutes later I grabbed my Kindle and had to know what happened!
There was quite a bit of suspense and the story line moved along smoothly. Definitely kept me wanting to know what happened next. I am looking...more

The last in a long line of very powerful witches, Anwyn, unbelievably, can barely cast spells. She does the best she can by serving as the resident Other Liaison in the Preternatural Investigation Team, or PIT, as it is known to the Flint Area Other community. Now, with her limited powers failing her, she must hunt down an Other killer before any more women die.

Not a bad book, took me ages to actually get into the story. Think the triangle between the heroine, the cop and the vampire is old school and I've read better versions. I did enjoy the working out of the bindings but even I could see from a lot earlier on that it was the heroines mum who'd put them on, very obvious.
