In 2010, a committee was appointed by the Synod of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America to study "one of the most important cultural issues of our day." Synod saw the need to provide guidance for congregations on the subject of homosexual orientation, not simply about the scriptural, scientific and moral issues, but also guidance for care and counsel to ...more

I think this paper dealt with an extremely controversial issue in a thorough and compassionate way. The Biblical teaching on this subject cannot be thwarted by science, not to mention what someone feels. But we have to remember that we all struggle with our own sins and are all equally in need of God's grace.

This is a very concise summary of the history and current leading views on sexual orientation. The section(2) treating the biological argument and the biblical doctrine of man helped clarify my own understanding of the physical/moral nature of same-sex behavior.

Highly recommended for anyone who is struggling with, or has members of their church community struggling with, sexual orientation issues. Read via an electronic version of the 2011 Synod Minutes.

This treatment of a very serious and, in some cases, violently heated cultural touchstone is wildly at odds (as it should be) with the homophobic and ignorant treatment of homosexual issues that pepper most evangelical responses to homosexuality in our society. The theological maturity of this brief defense of the church's position on God-honoring sexual orientation is really moving. The Pastoral wisdom presented by the authors shows the true heart of a gospel-centered ministry. It is extremely ...more

Pretty good summary of what Christians should believe about homosexuality. It is particularly valuable in its analysis of the changing way that the terms concerning those attracted to the same sex have been used. Also, the sections on the biblical passages concerning homosexuality are pretty useful at dispelling confusion produced by modern interpretations.

Although this is not a thoroughly detailed book (it is a Reformed Presbyterian confessional statement), it is nevertheless clear, accurate, compassionate, and biblically sound. Its shortness makes it a great book to read to gain a quick understanding of arguments pro and anti homosexual activity.

I recommend reading this along with John Stott's "Same-Sex Partnerships?"

A near must-read for pastors who want to be effective in ministering God's grace in Christ to His people.

Highly recommend - for pastors as well as churches - this as a thoughtful, biblical, and pastoral approach to the topic of homosexuality.
