EDIT: Here is my full review of the book, as promised a month ago (sorry for the delay).

Loved this book, even if I didn't love the ending. I don't want to put any spoilers in here, so I won't say *why* I didn't love the ending. I did, however, like it enough to still rate the book with five stars.

Lei is her impulsive, gut-chasing best in this book, and she even faces her demons, finally. You'll have to read it to see how she handles it, though.

In this story, Lei's moved...again. This time, to...more

In Black Jasmine, Ms. Neal weaves yet another mesmerising mystery set in the exotic locales of the Hawaiian isles. This time, the death of a young girl, the victim of an apparent suicide, leads Detective Lei Texeira on a twisted trail through the island of Maui, from its homeless camps, to the fleets of luxurious cruise ships docking regularly on the island, all the way to its glitzy arts scene, as Lei uncovers the details of an elaborate and cruel organised crime operation.

Once more, Le...more

This is the third Lei Texeria crime novel I've read. While I liked the first two a lot, the second being my favorite. This novel I didn't care for much at all. I read mysteries for the mystery. The interpersonal relationships should just be side line. This was way too much about Lei and her problems not the mystery. This was compounded by Lei getting beat up at every turn. She didn't really solve this mystery. It solved itself. While Lei was a strong character with flaws in the last two books, i...more

I Just finished reading Black Jasmine by Toby Neal. It's the third book in the Lei Crime Series and a fast-paced, easy read, just like the first two. Couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.

As always, Ms. Neal excels in setting and ambiance. You get to know Hawaii intimately in all of her books, but this one is particularly engrossing. Love the dynamics between Lei and Stevens' and I must admit I'm a little smitten with the man myself, what with those blue, blue, bedroom eyes and thos...more

Lei is an officer with the Maui police force and one day she is called to investigate what appeared to be a vehicle suicide.

It isn't and the story unfolds through investigative phases and personal tragedies.

Not a fan of thrillers/mysteries, I often find myself pushing them away. However, Black Jasmine drew me to it with its exotic setting and likeable characters.

I read it in two days and wanted more.

Give it a go. You might as well get transported into that world of exotic bliss I've just com...more

I am extremely satisfied with this book. From other reviews on here - people did not like the way that the story ended but in my opinion it could not have ended another way without being true to the character of Lei. I am disappointed on how she handled her pet... but what can you do. Other than that... the story was well written and again you can escape in each of the stories Toby Neal writes which is the main reason why I keep reading her stories. I can not wait to read the fourth book in the...more

As with the other two in this series, I loved it! Glad the "bad guy" had more suspense and twists than before and took me a lot longer to guess. Something I didn't understand and not sure if it was an oversight or intentional - why didn't the MPD react to the letter in the out box at the gallery? As others have said in their reviews I didn't like the end - really hoping for some explanation in the next book. When will Broken Ferns be published?

Good solid addition to the series, which I've liked consistently. The author manages to project the feel of the location and of the people very vividly and her main characters are well rounded.

Will be interesting to see where the character goes in future books. She's tended to be a bit too 'damaged' by her experiences as a child to really hook me into her character so am wondering if this book was more or less intended to close out that chapter.

Another amazing read. What a great cast of characters and how well they interact. Lei is so smooth and
unfazed under pressure.

I was a little surprised at the ending, leaving poor boy friend at airport. But! But that leaves opening for
many more to come.

Will we follow here thru her training, any love interests there?

Can not wait for the next book, and I just saw that it is available for Kindle; YES i already downloaded it

I love the suspense, the unexpected twists and turns, and solving the murder mystery along with the characters. However, I find it hard connecting with the main character as I find her to be selfish and too spontaneous. Maybe I'm being too critical, but this factor prevented me from fully getting involved in the story and thus why I only rated it a 3-star instead of a 4-star. Overall, the mystery kept me on my toes the whole time and I would recommend this book to others.

Here is a book with strong female characters that are believable, very possibly because the author is a professional counselor and surely must have a great understanding of people.

I liked her writing style and especially enjoyed her descriptions of her native Hawaii. The story moved along, never bogged down. It held my interest from beginning to the end.

Black Jasmine is the third book in the Lei Crime series. This story follows Lei and her boyfriend Stevens as the begin life on the Island of Maui. Lei is called to the scene of a car accident. It's Lei's insight that leads the case to be identified as Murder. In the process of finding the murderer, Lei has to deal with issues from the past as well as someone trying to murder her.

As with the first two books in the series I could not get enough!

This was a great book and Lei actually seemed to resolve some old issues. I cant wait for the next book. It had suspense and you didn't want to put it down.

Loved this book and Lei and the setting. Great whirlwhind story, will be looking for the author's other works.

P.S. The villain's name made me giggle. Out loud.

Black Jasmine is a fast-paced read with endless action and strong female characters. Lei is a tough cop in Maui attached to a caring, considerate man who loves her despite her flaws and issues.

The third book in the Lei crime series, these characters continue to attract my attention. There are a few rough edges, but overall, these stories are solid and consistant. I look forward to reading Broken Ferns.
Jeanne
I love this series. A crime mystery set in Hawaii. Each book so far has been set on a different island. The characters and events are so real. I can't wait for the next one.

I love this series and Lei is such a strong character that's so torn. I hope she finds what she's looking for and can get past the terrible things that have happened to her!
