A great surprise, a book I really enjoyed!

Everyone who knows me (family,friends...), knows I'm a sucker for everything sci/fi. It all started years ago, when I stayed past my bedtime one night with my father to watch Star Trek and I ended up with a huge childhood crush...

DNF at 25% for too many similarities to another very popular work I can no longer digest.

50 shades of Paranormal. Yes, this is the first book I have read (or not) that is 50 shades/Bared to you of paranormal romance with an outstanding reality involving Aliens landing on earth and living among humans. Now, I would like to take one of their Alien ships and fly myself away from anything that has to do with books like THAT book.I will say it again: I enjoyed THAT book for the romance and crazies b...more

I loved this bit of Alien Erotica!
It was made all the more enjoyable because I kept expecting a "probe" joke, but it never came... Well played...

"It was difficult to believe that just four days ago, she was dreading her sociology paper, and worrying that her dating life was in the dumps. And now she was trying not to get caught spying on a two-thousand year old extraterrestrial who likely wanted to keep her as a sex slave."
My inner-snarky-book-reviewer insists that I roll out the phrase "Spa...more

Combination of Twilight (2000 year old bloodsucker) with 50 Shades (controlling rich dude) and a submissive inane heroine lacking intelligence, backbone and basic logic.

Heroine: have you ever read the account of a woman suffering domestic abuse? Well there you go….

Hero: glaring irregularities.
1. I'm not sure if the author has secret Gulf Arab sheikh fantasies but she's played them out here. The heroes (and all K men) appear to be black-haired, bronze skinned, tall and authoritarian. Either that...more

What happens when your lover is supposed to be your enemey? Would you sacrifice your chance at happiness because of rumors and prejudice? These are just some of the hard questions that I was asking myself while reading Close Liaisons.

Mia is a naive college student that gets caught up in a dangerous situation when Korum, a visitor from another planet, takes an interest in her. From the first time they meet she feels physically drawn to him, but only five years after the Krinar race made themselve...more

Lets cut to the chase shall we, the writing was good the words flowed nicely and I didn't initially detect any editing problem but then again I was quite tired when I was reading this.
The plot was Ok, not very developed but it wasn't bad, Alien race comes down to live snuggle with humanity. Its been done before and better but it wasn't offensive or a complete rip off of anyone else's work, so bravo Anna Zaires. There was plenty of smexy time and in honestly it was written well.

Recommends it for: fans of erotic and destructive relationships
This was an extremely compelling, hot, and uncomfortable read. I highly recommend it for fans of dangerous and potentially damaging romances. I couldnt stop reading.

In a not too distant future, an alien race called the Krinar come to Earth and tell us they guided our evolution to make us their sister race. They look like humans, but bigger, smarter, faster, more beautiful, better in every way. They want to integrate with our population and help guide us through the final stages of our evolution...more

My first thought when finishing this book was that it was a lot like porn. There is a hell of a lot of sex with very little plot and an even smaller amount of character development thrown in.

The ever shy, inexperienced, college girl attracts what is supposed to be a dominant, experienced man and they fall into a relationship: check

Said dominant man actually actually a controlling, obsessive, manipulative man who does whatever necessary to catch his prey and trap her: check

They fall into bed mor...more

The Krinar, an advanced alien race, interrupt the human race's path to self-destruction. In the five years since K Day, they have improved the overall health of the planet and its people. Rumors swirl that the K are a vampire race, and their benevolent presence on Earth is not trusted by all.

Mia Stalis, with her parent's encouragement, chose to move from Florida to attend college in New York City, which should have been far from Krinar settlements. She inadvertently captures the attent...more

I enjoyed reading this story very much, but what I don’t understand is why the need for heroes to have huge penises?

He’s was so big that i thought she would need to require some stitches.
The idea of having a man shove something that feels like a baseball bat into one’s body is not entirely arousing and , my legs immediately went into lockdown mode.

Beside that, it was pretty good. Korum is super possessive, protective and extra intelligent alien (Krinar) from another galaxy. They drink blood duri...more

I love SF mixed with hot romance, alian invasion, alpha males, some darkness of the soul, tortured (not literally) hero/heroine and all that stuff, so when I so this blurb I thought this would be a perfect book for me!

A dark and edgy romance...

There's NOTHING dark and edgy in this book!
Or, better, if you're 15 years old, maybe you'll find something edgy here! *wink*

Since I was expecting someting dark and edgy, I was also expecting an adult herione! But Mia was young, young, young! I should have...more

I picked this one up when I was told it was free. Had wanted to read it but no to the point of going out of my way to bump it up on my tbr list and buy it.

First off. This is a 'different' type of dark (?) erotica read that has the equivalent of an alien version of Christian Grey (I know. I really hesitated to even type that out but it's a good reference point so I'm using it) pursuing an Earther Anastasia Steele (again. ditto feeling). The question mark I placed with the dark reference is becau...more

WOW!!! I mean really, WOW! I ab-sol-fuckin-utely loved this book! I just couldn't put it down. I really loved this. Their was NOTHING to dislike about this book and everything to LOVE about it. I really, really needed this read. Paranormal Romance is my first love when I read. For years that is all that I have read. But in the last couple of months I got hooked on New Adult and Contemporary. I love the emotional rollercoaster that I get with most of those books. But this was just great. I really...more

I want to give this story a higher rating, I really do, but I just can't justify it. The main character Mia is the typical female character in a romance novel; the shy virgin. The male is domineering and a perfect specimen. I had a hard time reading this book and getting involved in the characters lives. Mia was always complaining about her circumstances and Korum was constantly telling her what to do and how to do it. This book tried to romanticize a terribly domineering relationship.

The way it...more

The book opens at the onset of an alien invasion, and being a scifi fan, I was ecstatic. We quickly jump five years into the future and the writer gives us a wonderful and intriguing view into how Earth has changed, shown through the perspective of a young college student named Mia.

After the "Great Panic" (loved that) things seem pretty peaceful. Then Mia meets Korum, one of the Aliens. Right from the beginning, their relationship is very tumultuous. I did have an issue with how erratic Mia's e...more

Loved, loved, loved this book. The writing was smooth and descriptive and I was so absorbed in the book the whole time, I just couldn't stop reading. The author created a really cool world concept. It actually reminds me of True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse novels a bit in terms of the detailed world-building. Here instead of vampires out of the closet, the aliens arrived and conquered Earth and the book briefly touches on how that impacts everyday life (certain foods not available, stock market cras...more

A terrific new author, I really enjoyed this debut and am looking forward to reading more as this story does not wrap up in one book. Karum is one of the most enjoyable (well, scary and posessive) male characters I've read, the premise is really interesting and the writing is well done.

The story is set in the near future when aliens descend on Earth and explain that they were the ones to seed life on this planet and have been tinkering with its evolution all along. They have manipulated human ev...more

INTERESTING READ

The Krinar have arrived on earth, they have signed a treaty with earths governments to live side by side with humans. Mia is a 21 year old student studying-at university in New York, when she catches the eye of Korum a Krinar. Very quickly Korum insinuates his way into Mia's life. He makes it very plain to her exactly what he wants. Mia although attracted to Korum, the fact that he's an alien whom she knows little about scares her. As the days pass he dictates her movements even...more

Very entertaining story which delves into a world that many of us have considered the reality of more than once in our lives. A world where the question of whether there is other intelligent life in the universe besides our own is finally answered and rather drastically, turning our world and the foundation of our very existence upside down. In the midst of all this science seriousness, unfolds a tale of stark passion and undeniable attraction between two beings who are as different as night and...more

I read this for a BOTM, its not my usual type of thing. I didn't like the characters. None of them. Mia was...dull and uninspired, child like in her indignation and shallow in her I-hate-this-monster-at-least-until-he-touches-me-and-then-I-can't-wait-to-wrap-my-legs-around-him. Ugh. I just didn't like her. I didn't feel her dilemma (and she did genuinely have one) but she went about the whole damn thing so stupidly that instead of feeling for her, I was face-palmin...more

Wow, what can I say???? Loved it. The imagination that went in to this is amazing. It's brilliantly written with such clear descriptions you feel like you could step through the pages. I couldn't put it down. It has a really well thought out plot, I haven't read anything like it before, and I love being surprised. Absolutely loved it and can't wait for the next one :)

This book was so good. I really liked the way the aliens were explained. Who knew that they created us. We were their experiment. Mia caught Korum eye one day in the park. After that he pretty much staked his claim on her.

Heres the thing I really really liked this book in fact I'm itching to read the next one. Korum was such a major Alpha. I mean he never took no for an answer and he always thought that he knew better than Mia , I mean come on she is just a human anyway right. But there were ti...more

First, I have to say, run, don’t walk, to Amazon. At the time of this posting Close Liaisons: The Krinar Chronicles (Volume 1) is free for the Kindle and it was good!

On Amazon Close Liaisons has 4 stars: 77 – 5 star, 11 – 1 star, and various in between. I always read the 1 stars when I see a free book because normally I tend to agree with the disgruntled readers that are complaining about grammar, spelling, punctuation, and what have you. Those reviews will help you bypass a badly written book....more

I can't label this a romance. Its the systematic, methodical acclimatization of a woman to mental and emotional abuse. If Zaires had classified this as literary fiction, I would be the first to hail her as a brave new voice in world of anatomy of the psychotic mind along the lines of Humbert in "Lolita." Zaires' explored abuse in all its harsh forms. Korum takes one look at Mia and decides, for reasons we are never privy to, that he will have her. He separates her from her friends, her family, h...more

Plot: Focused on nothing but school and everything that involves it, Mia's life is turned upside down when Korum, one of the mysterious Krinar that landed on Earth fives years prior, decides that he must have the shy, antisocial college student for himself.

Now where do I start with this train wreck? I'm aware that Close Liaisons was supposed to be some kind of sci-fi erotic romance but it was neither erotic nor romantic; there was plenty of sci-fi though.

The Romance: The "relationship"--and I u...more

Up front I want to say I didn't finish this book (40%). I might come back later-maybe- if I'm desperate. I rounded up to a 2 because I hate to give it less since the editing and writing were good. I just didn't like the story. Scifi alien erotica pseudo bdsm- I usually like this type of book. I could not connect with any of the main characters. Mia was a wimp and a doormat. Being young and a virgin doesn't necessarily make you to stupid to live. Korum was just a rich alien asshole who uses peopl...more

This was not your typical alien story. It kept you on your toes wondering if the Krinar that Mia meets is really nice and means what he says or is it all just acting. She can’t help but want him but also doubts his motives are in the best interest of the human race. I give the story 5 stars.

The story starts out right as the invasion starts and it really isn’t an invasion so much as they are moving in and there is nothing we can do about it. I liked the beginning with no build up to them coming h...more

I am a fan of erotica and i have so far encountered erotic novels that fogged up my reader, made me laugh, made me cringe, made me wipe down my reader with bleach, made my eyes roll, but until now i have never found one that bored me to that degree that i found myself drifting off to sleep while reading it.

I guess there is a first time for everything.

The author chose to find inspiration in books like 50 Shades, and Anita Blake, to that degree that it was obvious as soon as you reached a certain...more

I’m calling this one “Alien Shades of Grey”. CLOSE LIAISONS by Anna Zaires at 88k, is one of the longer books in my challenge but it was a fast, fun little romp.

The author used (maybe not purposely) a SHADES OF GREY formula and transposed an original science fiction world. The leading man, Korum: uber alpha male, rich, powerful, the hottest guy on the planet, oh, and he is an alien. The main character, Mia: virginal, mouse-like, college student that is helpless to resists Korum. Their sexual att...more

Anna Zaires fell in love with books at the age of five, when her grandmother taught her to read. She wrote her first story shortly thereafter. Since then, she has always lived partially in a fantasy world where the only limits were those of her imagination. Currently residing in Florida, Anna is happily married to Dima Zales (a science fiction and fantasy author) and closely collaborates with him...more
