This book, The Generosity of Strangers When War Came to Fornelli by Thomas A. Antonaccio, does away from the mainstream idea of how a war novel should be. This is different. I didn't expect this kind of presentation by the author. I thought that this is full of bombs, tanks, corpse and blood which, honestly, I hate very much. He did an unsual attack and doesn't turn out really as a war novel.

This is a touching book that deserves far more attention than it is getting right now. As far as I am concerned, it should be turned into a movie or a tv series. It was such a joy to read something so sincere and family oriented.

A small girl lived her life in a small town of Fornelli in Italy. There were her Mamma and Tata, her brothers and sisters, animals around the farm. Her life was happy. And then the war came. There was no food, no warm clothes, soldiers everywhere. Her father had to leave.

Definitely a must read. The war (WWII) seen through the eyes of a young girl, Lucia, from a small town in Italy. The book is small snapshots of Lucia's life before, during and after the war. Lucia speaks with the innocent of a child. We see her joys and sorrows. We see her grow and change with each turn of the page.

I usually don't read alot of non-fiction but I am so happy I took the time to pick up The Generosity of Strangers. It's a story told in small chapters by a young girl living in Fornelli, Italy during the war in the 40's. She basically walks us thru her day to day life and tells us of the hardships the war had on her family.
I enjoyed reading it I believe because even though it was war time and back in the 40's it showed me a simpler more carefree life than what most have today. I mean they didn't...more

I am so glad that I chose to review this book for this tour! The writing style of the author is amazing. I loved how the book progressed from the innocent playfulness of the child to the deep sadness they experienced. The book definitely makes you step back and appreciate the things that you have. This book is a must read for history lovers :)
