First I have to say I absolutely love the cover art for this book. It caught my attention right away. Though I know I'm not supposed to
"judge a book by it's cover" I often find myself turning away from boring covers and going for those that capture my interest more often than I should.

It seems I'm the odd fish out regarding this book. My experience with it has been well far away from 3, 4 or 5 stars.

My problems were:

--The writing. I read this book and it left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. It reminded my of a bottle of sparkling wine left open too long. It's utterly flat and has a weird taste, no matter how good the wine was. And, believe me, this wasn't a good bottle to begin with.

My problems were:

--The writing. I read this book and it left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. It reminded my of a bottle of sparkling wine left open too long. It's utterly flat and has a weird taste, no matter how good the wine was. And, believe me, this wasn't a good bottle to begin with.
Flat and didascalic are the only characteristics I could find. Uninteresting might be an other, but that pertains the plot not the writing.

--The plot. Even with a serial killer on the rampage (again...) there is no mystery, no suspense. You know who the bad guy is the moment he enter the scene. You know who has bound the witch the moment the bindings are quoted. I can't even say I was interested in how they get to know who the bad guy is.

--The characters. What characters? The cardboard figures were unbelievably boring.
The leading lady is so worthless in any thing she does you wonder how she got to be where she is. Her only "power" is supposed to be knowledge. When you stop laughing at the way she is portrayed, you see she has no agency at all. She can't even control the vision which are supposed to be her forte. She gets her ass kicked every few pages and has no backbone to go with it. She has to be saved constantly.
The vampire. I take the monster every day compared to this whiner. If you survived your past, you can't be this broken and still function. He is really unpalatable to me.
And why the ménage a trois? (It's not a triangle if you have sex with both :P)

--The sex. I wasn't sure this was a UF or erotica. There was so much meaningless sex I couldn't believe it. If you get a look at my bookshelves, you'll realize I'm no prude. But I'd really like to see the sex scenes as part of the story. Here they were used as an excuse for anything. (I have read and liked the Riley Jenson series, so I know what I'm talking about :D)
There's also a (almost) rape scene. Do you think it affected the heroine?

No one told me to have a glass of ice water at my side while reading Hex and the Single Witch. By the time I realized how much heat this book generates, I was too engrossed to put it down and too busy turning pages to go to the kitchen.

Passion, desire and hot, steamy sex are a big part of this book but there's so much more. The sign of good Erotica is removing the sex and seeing if you still have a story, otherwise it's just porn. Book One of the Vehicle City Vampires series introduces us to Anwyn Rose, a young witch whose only real power is the ability to read minds with a touch. She's a detective on the Flint, Michigan's P.I.T. crew (Preternatural Investigation Team) who uses her special gifts to see the last thoughts of murder victims and thus, identify their killer. She's also liaison to the "Others", supernaturals who run the town.

When a Vampire serial killer hits Flint and starts draining the blood from young women, Anwyn is called upon to use her gift. The crafty villain blocks her power of "knowing" and she is unable to see his face. It doesn't stop her from experiencing the women's deaths, however . . . an intensely orgasmic experience that leaves her horny as hell.

Her sexy partner, Mike Malone, would love to take care of her needs and he's definitely built for the job but she lusts after Galen, a vampire with old world values who doesn't trust himself not to drain her during sex. Abstinence is not what Anwyn wants. Driven by urgings too strong to ignore, Anwyn discovers someone has put her under a spell. And that's only the beginning.

Navigating a love triangle that grows more complicated by the minute is the least of her worries as she struggles to find the murderous vampire and save Galen from execution.

Hex and the Single Witch is an interesting contemporary thriller filled with magick, mystery and mayhem. Ms. Rhoads has done an excellent job of merging sex, romance and suspense in a new world setting while keeping the characters believable.

To be honest this series totally reminds me of a mixture of the Anita Blake Series (Laurell K. Hamilton), Stella Mayweather Series (Camilla Chafer) and the Graveyard Queen Series (Amanda Stevens). You've got your love triangle between a human, a witch and a vampire and all of the amazing preternatural things happening around them in Vehicle City. I'm seriously loving this combination and looking forward to the rest of this series.

Wow!! What a great start to what I am sure will be a long pined after series!! Roxanne does a great job of creating "real" characters that you can relate to and become invested in. What first drew me to this book was the cover, it's gorgeous and had me wanting to read it without even knowing what the book was about, but after reading the synopsis I was sold and definitely wanted to give this book a go.

I was so excited to pick up this book! I’ve been on the look out for a paranormal thriller and this hit me at just the right time! Technically, it’s a paranormal romance, and, boy! It seems that he is being targeted as the source of all the dead bodies strewn about in Flint. Anwyn doesn't believe it to be true but can't hide from the situation, causing there to be a tad bit of tension.

Anywn gets embroiled in sexual situations with both Mike and Galen that puts a strain on both guys, as well as herself. This love triangle between Anywn and her men puts a sexually charged twist on the novel. Jealous human versus jealous vamp...She is attracted to both men but will she end up with one or neither of them?

I really enjoyed "Hex and the Single Witch." I'm a former Flint girl - I grew up outside of Flint but spent a lot of time in the city and township limits. I was able to place each and every reference to a street or location in my mind. When Anwyn exited I-75 at Pierson Rd. to go into Flushing, I could picture Meijer, and all of the restaurants she would have passed, the Bowling Alley where I used to be on leagues, and the Rite Aid and US-23 Supermarket (which I think is now a Kroger) as she got to Elms Rd.

The character development, overall, was decent and we got a little bit of the who's and why's about each main player. The history behind Anwyn's parent's is a crucial part of one plot line, and Ms. Rhoads does a great job in introducing it and weaving it throughout the novel. The history behind Galen is a huge part of the entire novel and is explained, developed, and drawn out appropriately.

There is definitely some strange magic in Flint; some good, some not so much.

The ending includes a nice, mild cliffhanger, which did it's intended job.....I am now left wanting more!

In the beginning I thought the book would be as atmospherical as "Dead Witch Walking" from the Hollows Series, but I was mistaken. The heroine, Anwyn, was a slut, trying to persuade us she is not. Anwyn is a witch, member of a police that deals with paranormal cases. But recently a vampire drains and kills many young women, leaving little trails behind him. But our heroine is determined to understand what is happening, especially when it seems that everything is linked to Galen, the vampire she likes as she is convinced of his innocence. But even if she knows that, she still doesn’t know who is behind all the murders. In addition to that, she has to face two men who would love to have her in their bed. She was alone for a long time, it is now a really big change. But how could she choose between Malone, her boss and the Galen the vampire, when they are so different? So? It is quite complicated. Well I understand it is quite difficult for her to choose between the two of them but I think I have a soft spot for our little vampire. He is "damaged", fragile, and it is true that we want to help and hug him, while Malone is more confident and determined in his actions. Each has his own qualities and defects, but a common goal, the lovely Wyn.

I admit that this first novel made me very curious about the rest of the story. Roxanne Rhoads introduced us several ideas, many characters and I really want to learn more about them. We learn a little about each of the protagonists, enough for us to ask many questions about each of them. The plot is not very complicated and when I wondered about some aspects of the story, about the things that Rose could learn, I confess I had not really thought about this reason and this culprit for the murders. Many things are started here and I am intrigued by the following events, particularly about the relations of our heroine.(less)

I wish there was a way for me to give this book 3.5 stars, as right now I am wavering between a 4 for story and 3 for writing. Vampires, Witches and hunky police officers...what is not to like?! The synopsis caught my attention and I figured lets give this one a try. I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed this story. I started the book in hopes of getting sleepy and I had to turn off my Kindle to go to bed, it was hard. 5 minutes later I grabbed my Kindle and had to know what happened!

Not a bad book, took me ages to actually get into the story. Think the triangle between the heroine, the cop and the vampire is old school and I've read better versions. I did enjoy the working out of the bindings but even I could see from a lot earlier on that it was the heroines mum who'd put them on, very obvious.

This book was bad either a capital b. The main character is whiny and annoying. She is a major idiot anyone of those women when attack says it was her fault. a lot of victim blaming going on in this one. Disappointing read and a waste of time.
