I loved this book! I did not expect to like it this much. It had me hooked from the beginning. The synopsis of the book didn't really appeal to me so I was very unsure when I started the book. But I was blown away! This book is amazing!

The story is full of suspense, action and romance. I could not stop reading the book. My eyes hurt and I was so sleepy but I just had to read the book. It was so good! The story reeled the reader in and kept him reading till the end. The suspense of it all, I kept asking myself "What happened?" "Maybe the real villain is ____" "Who did that?"

I love a good mystery! And that's what this was. A mystery. A paranormal mystery. But it also had romance in it. Oh I loved the romance! Gabriel ♥ Too bad he's too old for me (125 years old)

Ania and Gabriel's relationship was sweet. But Ania really annoyed me at times. Her decisions were sometimes so stupid and I was like "I wouldn't have done that!" But that's what made her character interesting too. Now everyone can't be like me, can they? And it's always nice reading about someone different.

The characters were well developed and complemented the story. The writing was pretty good. But it didn't attach me to the book emotionally. Moreover, there were some expressions which were repeated often, for example "my heart reacts instantly" and "sticky air filled with passion". They bothered me a little (That's the only reason I gave the book a 4.5 instead of a 5.), but I was able to overlook them because I was so engrossed in the story.

The end was satisfying yet it left me wondering. Yes, this book had a cliff-hanger ending. But the writer left just the right amount of suspense so that the reader would look forward to the next book and revealed some secrets that would satisfy the reader as well. So I was pretty happy with the ending.

All in all, it was in amazing book! I'm really looking forward to the sequel (more like I can't wait!! ) And I really recommend the book to people who like a good paranormal romance-mystery. Trust me, you will not be disappointed! A warning though, this book contains violence and sexual scenes so it's recommended for ages 16+.(less)

The Whispers of the Sprite is one of those books that make me think I should start reading more YA novels. Especially paranormal YA novels like this one. I admit, the summary didn’t really pull me in, and if it hadn’t been for the paranormal element I probably would have passed. But I’m really glad I didn’t!

Ania leads an ordinary life with a controlling mother until she is finally able to escape and head off to college. But things don’t go as smoothly as she had planned, and on her first night in a new city she is attacked and wakes in the hospital with a new kind of gift. Ania now has the ability to see Sprites—more commonly known as fairies.

Sprites are assigned a human to watch over and unknowingly provide guidance to. They’re like a guardian angel of the fairy world. Gabriel is Ania’s fairy protector and when she wakes in the hospital he is astonished that she is able to see him—something he isn’t aware that could be done. But the Sprites live a certain way, have rules that can’t be broken unless they want to face death. One of those rules being humans cannot know about them, Sprites are forbidden to reveal themselves to non-mortals.

The story follows these two on a journey of love and discovering a world Ania didn’t know existed. But it isn’t just a love story; there is also an element of mystery to it. The author has you wondering about so many things while reading this novel. From who attacked Ania, to how she and Gabriel can be together when he is betrothed to another fairy and forbidden to even speak to a human without the threat of death. (Although, I was a little confused on this part since no one has ever had the ability to see Sprites before Ania so how could they communicate with them?)

Ania did irritate me a few times with the things she did—like using George (an ex-boyfriend) to make Gabriel jealous. Even though I wasn’t a George fan, to flip out on him like she did when she invited him to see her was a little much. Her moods went from one extreme to the next so fast it was like emotional whiplash.

I wish there had been more Gabriel—I didn’t feel like I could connect to him because there was hardly any information given about the character. But I suppose this will be cleared up in the sequel?

There is a cliff hanger at the end of this novel, but it’s not one that leaves you feeling completely unsatisfied. It feels right where the author left it off to continue it in the next book. I, of course, was frustrated as all hell because I just want to know now how it all plays out, but I will definitely be looking forward to the follow up The Dark Night Whispers.

When I first started reading this book, I wondered if I was actually going to end up finishing it. For a moment, I thought that there were writing errors in it, but then I imagined Ania as the foreign girl who came to England when she was around thirteen. This book created some original characters that were interesting and exciting to read about. I love it when a new paranormal creature is developed as it brings a whole new set of ideas to read about. I enjoyed the concept of Sprites as it was unusual and I haven't read anything like it before so I found myself reading on to find out more about their nature. I also enjoyed the twists in this book as it kept me wanting to read on. The romances in this book were developed just right. There was just enough detail to keep you in suspense of what would happen next in the character's lives which was great.

I did have a few issues with this book though. For me there wasn't enough dialogue to break up the long description (which I ended up skim reading at times) and sometimes I felt that not all of the description was relevant. I found myself asking “why do I need to know this?” as it didn't seem to add anything or help to move the story on. I also found myself wanting more details about things that weren't written about, which frustrated me, e.g at one point Mazurkiewicz wrote that Ania had a conversation with Amy and I found myself almost screaming as I would have rather read the dialogue than having the fact stated.

As well as this the book seemed a bit disjointed. Mazurkiewicz used a lot of asterisks to move from one scene to the next and I found this sort of irritating as it felt like the book kept stopping and starting. In some places where I expected to be a chapter break there were asterisks and where I expected asterisks there was a new chapter. I also found a few grammar problems, where the tenses changed from present to past and there are a few typos, but these are few and minor.

The paranormal story in this book is simple to understand, original and interesting. The characters were easy to sympathise with but I didn't get as much of a connection as I would have liked, especially at the end. The end of the book also leaves you on a cliff hanger and even though I had these problems with the book I still want to read the next one.

Overall I enjoyed the new concept, creatures and story line as it was original. However for me, my main problem was the lack of dialogue and long descriptions. I found myself skimming pages and not getting as lost in the book as I would have liked to. If you want to read about a new addition to the paranormal creatures then I would recommend this book as it was an exciting read.(less)

I am always a little hesitant to write a review that is less than complimentary of a book. I am not in the business of bashing authors because I don't personally like their book. And, I want to be supportive of independent and relatively unknown authors. That being said, when I read a book like this, I feel that it is my job as a reviewer to set aside the possible hurt feelings of the author and tell my readers my honest opinion.

I so wanted to like this book. The premise sounded interesting: A...more I am always a little hesitant to write a review that is less than complimentary of a book. That being said, when I read a book like this, I feel that it is my job as a reviewer to set aside the possible hurt feelings of the author and tell my readers my honest opinion.

I so wanted to like this book. The premise sounded interesting: A girl begins to see some kind of supernatural being (fairies or sprites) after a near death experience. She falls in love with one of them despite the danger involved for both of them. Forbidden love, a hot fairie guy, danger - what's not to like, right? Wrong...

First, the writing. There were a lot of awkward sentences, some misused idioms, overuse of certain phrases, words that were technically correct but not "current" and sentences that just plain did not make sense. Now, this could be the case for one of 2 reasons:
One, the author is originally from Poland and is not a native English speaker - thus the problems listed above. If this is the case I would recommend that she find a native English speaker or editor to help her polish this up. Two, the main character is originally from Russia and would therefore likely speak in broken English. The book was written in first person present tense so the entire book is right from her mind/mouth. If this is the reason for the above problems, I understand wanting to keep the character authentic, but the language really detracted from my enjoyment of the book. I would recommend that the book not be written in first-person from Ania's point of view.

Second, the plot. There were a ton of inconsistencies and holes in this plot that made me go "Huh? Whaaaat?" For example, Gabriel (the Sprite love interest) states on more than one occasion that it is against the rules for them to be together and that the penalty for them speaking is death. However, he also states on more than one occasion that this has never ever happened before, in all the centuries that they have existed. If this is true, why would such a rule even exist? In the last couple of pages there's an event (see spoiler below) that seems like a heck of a coincidence.

Third, I really hated Ania. She is the main character so I suppose one would expect to feel some kind of connection there but I just did not like the girl. She was completely immature and a major drama queen. She has an overbearing mother, but her mother obviously cares about her. It's not an abusive relationship or anything. At one point in the book Ania cuts all ties with her and states that she is "just another woman named Natasha that I once knew." That seems quite extreme to me. Also, she sees Gabriel a couple of times and even admits (more than once) how arrogant he is. Yet, after the first time he kisses her she is "in love!" Ridiculous! She knows absolutely nothing about this guy (or Sprite, as the case may be), his culture, his family, etc.. but she's in love with him! She is also the QUEEN of mixed messages. She sends him away and then is angry when he's not there. He leaves for a trip and she's angry that he's gone. She was whiny, immature, overly dramatic and generally unlikeable.

I gave an extra star for the overall idea of the book. I think if the writing were smoother and the plot and details fleshed out a little more this could be great. The idea of fairies as guardians instead of angels was intriguing to me. The very small glimpses I got of their society was intriguing to me. I can see the potential here and give the author credit for putting an original spin on the idea of fairies and angels.

Overall, there were more negatives than positives for me personally. I was unable to overlook a lot of the awkward writing and plot inconsistencies. However, if you are looking for something a little different and like a good love story with a little bit of a mystery thrown in, you may enjoy this one. (less)

Ania is very happy when she moves to Swansea city in Wales where she will be attending the University there. She has been living with her very controlling mother in London. She is excited and anxious to start her new life in Wales without her mother. In her new life she will have no one to tell her what to do all the time. I liked Ania but there were times when she acted like a spoiled brat. Always wanting her way and thinking that everything should be done like she wanted it to be done.

Ania's mother may have been controlling but she loved Ania very much and was only doing what she thought was right. Raising a child all alone without help from anybody is not an easy job. Her mother was only trying to protect her and keep her safe in the only way she knew how.

On Ania's first night in Swansea city she is attacked on the beach. She wakes up in the hospital and her mother is there something she is not too thrilled about. Ania sees a man, a magical creäture but one who is very handsome in her room after waking up. This man, Gabriel is very surprised that she can see him. Gabriel is a sprite or fairy and humans are not supposed to be able to see them. He tells Ania that no human has ever seen a sprite before.

Sprite's are assigned a human to watch over and help to keep them safe. They are like their guardian angels. Gabriel tells Ania that she can't let another sprite know that she can see them. If they find out that she can see them it would mean death. I know you are asking yourself right now "'who's death"? Am I right? Well see I am not going to tell you who. If I told you I would be giving way too much of the story away and would ruin it for you.

Gabriel pops in and out of Ania's life or room as the case is most of the time. I mean he is a magical creäture. One second he is there and the next he is gone in the blink of an eye literally. I've wondered how Gabriel could fall in love with Ania so quick or at all. One minute she is very loving and doesn't want to be away from him for any amount of time. And then the next minute she is yelling at him to get out. Once Gabriel is gone she wants him back and is frustrated because he is not there when she needs him. Ania has a very big heart she cares about people she just needs to grow up a little more and realize that she can't always have things exactly like she wants.

Ania is a very independen type of person with a big heart one who grew up with a mother that tried to protect her too much. A mother who was probably worried all the time that she would lose her. Ania probably felt as if she was being smothered by her mother when all she was doing was loving her.

While reading The Whispers of the Sprite I didn't won't to stop. I wanted to keep turning the pages without stopping until I reached the end. I wanted to know what Ania was going to do next. What was going to happen next in the story. I almost didn't put it down as I read it in one day. I didn't even lay it down long enough to go to the bathroom. No I took it with me and read it on my phone while in the bathroom.

If you like reading paranormal romance with a little mystery and suspense thrown in as well as magical creatures with a new twist on the magical creatures then you would like The Whispers of the Sprite.

This book makes me so sad. Not because the content is sad, but because I couldn’t finish reading it. I absolutely love the cover and the summary sounds exciting. Unfortunately, the story itself doesn’t live up to either. I made it most of the way through the book, but gave up when I realized there really wasn’t any plot developing.

As you can tell from the rating, I thought this story was okay.

I wasn't as hooked as I thought I would be. It seemed to kind of drag on, and I kept putting off reading it because the main characters kind of made me mad.

They were off and on, the guy was confusing, and I didn't really like the main character.

This is a must read for everyone. I loved the two main characters, Ania & Gabriel. The blossoming relationship between the two was magical. It didn't take me long to read it because I couldn't put it down. I had to keep turning the pages to find out what happened next.
