I tried. I really did.

But this one was just BORING to me.

Image Hosted by

I went back to it more times than I can remember, read a chapter, and gave up each time. For some reason it just didn't work for me, maybe it's the writing, maybe it's the story, or maybe it's just my brain in question *sigh*

Oh well.

After TWO MONTHS being in my currently reading shelf, I think it's time to put you to rest

Scorched continues the amazing Tracer series by Laura Griffin and make us revisit the couple Kelsey and Gage who had their own short novella Unstoppable.

Kelsey has a great career at the Delphi Center as the bone expert and she often goes to dangerous places for excavation. Gage is a Navy SEAL which is a dangerous job and for two years their relationship was about the absences and reunions and sex but eight months ago, Kelsey and Gage broke up because Kelsey gave Gage a choice her or the teams an...more

4 stars taut, gripping suspense with a sexy hero, a sweet romance and a plot rife with danger and intrigue.

I do confess to mixed feelings embarking on this novel. On the one hand, having loved Kelsey and Gage’s story in the novella Unstoppable in the Deadly Promises anthology, I was just a little saddened that their Happy Ever After turned out to be just Happy For Now. It’s been shown slowly in the last few Tracers novels and I felt a sense of loss that their relationship had broken down. On the...more
The sixth book in the Tracers series. Laura Griffin has yet to write a book that I don't like. Her stories are suspenseful, gripping and entertaining. One of my auto-buy authors. Scorching!

I don't usually read romantic suspesne, because I like stories where the heroine is soaking in a hot bath or wearing couture at a society event, not crawling through the mud with machine guns firing six inches from her ear, or tripping over rotted corpses in the lair of a serial killer.

All the same, though, I thought SCORCHED was a pretty good book. I liked how Kelsey the heroine was so smart about her work identifying dead people from their bones and teeth. And I liked how the Navy SEAL hero G...more

Gage and Kelsey have been broken up for months and both are still nursing the wounds of that break up. They both cared deeply about each other, probably even loved at that point as well, but Gage’s job as a SEAL drove them apart. Kelsey gave Gage the worst ultimatum: her or his job. He lives and breathes his work, his entire life for so long has been wrapped up the SEALs, and that’s what he chose. Partly because it’s in his blood and par...more
Holy Cannoli Batman what a ride-a-minute, action-packed story Laura Griffin delivers in Scorched.

I loved it from the body bits to bomb bits to bioterrorism and terrorist bits. And let us not forget some ever-lovin’ smexy bits.

Both Gage and Kelsey are extremely strong and competent characters. Both the ultimate professionals and dedicated to their jobs...which can be a problem of major proportions if you‘re in or thinking of having a relationship. The bone doc and the Navy SEAL have such a past a...more

I really love this romantic suspense series by Laura Griffin. I think she does such a great job with not only the suspense part of the story (which usually has me holding my breath) but really well done character development as well. In her latest, she not only gives us a solid suspense story but the hero is a Navy SEAL.

Gage Brewer is a SEAL all the way down to his core. He loves it and lives for it. So when his girlfriend Kelsey gave him the ultimatum, leave the SEALs or leave me, he chose his...more
The underlining story here is, on how affecting it's for those in the military leaving in service for their country, while their love ones worry and wait anxiously for their return.

Navy SEAL Lt.Gage Brewer and forensic anthropologist Dr.Kelsey Quinn's relationship ended as she had him choose either her or what is at the core of his being, the SEAL teams.

Because of the dedication Kelsey has for what she does as an anthropologist, she wants answers about the human remains she excavated in the Phil...more

{This review was originally published on Clear Eyes, Full Shelves.}

In Laura Griffin's Tracers series--like in the television series 24, which I enjoyed--practical considerations are unnecessary. In the Tracers world, domestic terrorists drive MINI Coopers, anthropologists defuse bombs and everyone is terribly attractive.

Scorched is the sixth book in the Tracers series, which follows employees of a top-notch private crime lab in Texas. The series has featured hackers, scientists, sketch...more

This story is a tightly woven romantic suspense and arguably Laura Griffin's best in her Tracer's series.

Dr. Kelsey Quinn is a leading forensic anthropologist with the Delphi Center. She investigates deaths via the use of bones. Lt. Gage Brewer is a Navy SEAL and demolition expert. They used to be a couple (Unstoppable) but his long deployments and risky career kept them apart. Now a murder mystery and a terrorist threat brings them together. (Please use your very best "coming attractions" voic...more
“Scorched” by Laura Griffin is part of the ‘Tracers’ series that centers around individuals who are part of the Delphi Center in Texas and use their formidable talents to sift through information and assist with investigations. Dr. Kelsey Quinn’s ability to examine skeletons and derive remarkable amounts of information from the bones propel her into a rapidly escalating peril that endangers her and those around her. Despite her emotional conflict with former lover and Navy SEAL Gage Brewer, she...more
A Tasty Read Book Reviews
If you haven't started the Tracer Series by Laura Griffin, well all I can say is "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?" Laura writes one of the BEST Romance Suspense Series on the Market and I HIGHLY recommend starting the series now, that way you will be ready for SCORCHED at the end of this month.

SCORCHED centers around Kelsey Quinn and Gage Brewer, who you would have met if you read UNSTOPPABLE, the novella where their relationship first began. I for one, was so psyched when I found out that SCORCHED wa...more

Laura Griffin in an excellent romantic suspense author who has always been able to pull me in with her incredible story telling and well wrote characters. I found Scorched to have two characters that I instantly liked but the story failed to entice me and I found myself bored quickly.

Kelsey and Gage have a tumultuous past together that ended with Kelsey running into the arms of another man when Gage left her behind for his Seal team. Though Gage loved her, the ultimatum she gave him left him no...more
I received an ARC for Scorched by Laura Griffin.

I have never read any of Griffin's previously published books, and I am glad I was introduced to this author through her soon-to-be published book, Scorched.

This book has a little bit of everything: mystery, police and forensic investigation, slight politics, corruption, and romance.

The characters in this book are solid. They each have distinct voices and distinct personalities. They are also flawed, which I appreciate, because no character is perf...more

This book was a RITA Award winner and I expected much. It's my second try with conciously choosing a book from the winner lists of the RITA awards. And the second time is telling me that just like the first try - it's not working for me.
Scroched is a romantic suspense novel with more "suspense" than romance. It's part of a series but can be read as a stand alone book as there is no storyline underlying each book, but that it's Seals and political settings.
In this book a bio weapon threat is throw...more

3.5/5; 4 stars; B+

I was leery of this book because the short story with Kelsey and Gage was a wallbanger for me. It turned out ok though and Scorched is another solid romantic suspense addition to the series. I liked the loyalty and determination of the Gage character but was not impressed with him as relationship material. I think the earliest novels in this series were better.

Book bought for the flight tomorrow.

Edit: review to come.

Edit: Or not. I can't write a review on this one, because most of this book has leaked out of my memory. I rated it high for a romance novel though, most have had enough intrigue and action scenes. *shrugs*

A Great Deal

I've been reading big name authors of mystery/thrillers for years, and now with Kindle Daily Deals I'm occasionally finding some not so famous authors who deserve to be read. Laura Griffin fits the bill.

When I saw Scorched listed as a mystery/romance, I had visions of Brad Thor meets Nora Roberts . . . and that's pretty close to the truth. Griffin is a fine writer and tells a good story. Unlike many aspiring new mystery writers, she does a good job of keeping things somewhat reasona...more
I have read each book in this series in order and have loved them all. I have been wondering about Kelsey and Gage since I read the last book. Kelsey loves Gage, Gage loves being a Seal. But Gage has to figure out if he loves being a Seal more than he love Kelsey. He's a great protector and Kelsey definitely needs protecting. As usual, the story was complex and intriguing. I always love trying to figure out the who-done-it in Ms. Griffin's stories. Very interesting and keeps you going until the...more

This will have to be my favoutite out of all the books in the Tracers series. Don't get me wrong I like all of them. There is just something about Gage and Kelsey. Totally adore this couple and the action packed drama they delievered in this incredible story. I'm sad that it ends but glad they have their HEA. I did't want to finish the book. I wanted to read it at a snails pace but got so impatient. Love, love Laura Griffin. Such an amazing author.
Looking forward to the next new Tracers book :-)

Kelsey Quinn works as a forensic anthropologist for the Delphin Center crime lab. During her free time she travels the world uncovering mass graves trying to give peace to the victims. While on one such dig on Basilan Island in the Philippines, Kelsey discovers a single grave off the itself. This grave has been here longer the the mass grave she is working on. It is occupied by a single skeleton. The skeleton is that of a man, he is taller than the people in the area, and his face shows signs o...more

Intense page turner from beginning to end.

Kelsey Quinn and Gage Brewer have had a relationship in previous books but in the last one they had broken up. This picks up there story some time later.

Gage and his Seals team are on a mission in Kenya that ends with him getting shot and his CO Joe Quinn getting killed.

Kelsey is in the Philippines at a mass grave site when she discovers a body that shouldn't be there and when she gets the call about her Uncle Joe.

Two months later the DNA from the bo...more

Then it arrives, and you know you should pace yourself reading it because it once it's done you'll have the arduous wait for the next book, but instead you stay up all night and feed the kids takeaway because you don't want to lose valuable reading time?

Well that's what Scorched was to me (same goes for Stalked by Allison Brennan, but the post...more
The anticipation that awaited Scorched since reading Unstoppable was well worth it!! Kelsey and Gage are an awesome couple!! I was so excited to read their story!!

The way that Griffin integrated the FBI as a more predominant force in this story was a nice change of pace; switching the focus from being mostly the Delphi Center; of course, it was never far from focus.

Kelsey is a well respected forensic anthropologist employed by the Center; whereas Gage is a highly skilled SEAL. They both love the...more
Scorched by Laura Griffin is the sixth book in the Tracer's Series. The series is focused on people who work for or with the Delphi Center. Each book contains cool forensic information that would make Abby Sciuto (NCIS) very excited. Each book has a romance in the midst of a thriller Murder mystery!

Kelsey is the bone lady for Delphi Center crime lab. She is able to take the smallest bone sample and identify information to help track people. Often she can be found in the bone fields or on remote...more

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was as if Laura Griffin went inside my head and wrote the perfect book that I wanted to read. I’d already become hooked on the Traces series, and just when I thought it couldn’t get any better it did! This book had everything I adore in romantic suspense in one book—the forensics through the Delphi Center, the FBI, government corruption and conspiracies, smart heroines, and my favorite addition—Navy SEALs.

Chapter 2 was one of the best chapters in any book I’ve r...more

This was a well written book. Fast paced action and mystery. I had to read it simply because it contained Navy SEAL's, talk about yummy. While it is a romance, the focus was mainly on the action and mystery. There were two sex scenes between the main characters and both were minimal and light, though there was plenty of emotional conflict to be dealt with. What I was most impressed with was the realistic feel that Griffin was able to convey surrounding her SEAL characters. It was great! I've rea...more
