Ice miner Riley works alone in the depths of space, and that’s the way she likes it. She’s proud of her independence, and when her ship gets destroyed by raiders on the icy surface of Galileo, she’s not sure she wants to rely on rakish trader Leo and the kindness of a band of settlers to survive.

Riley is an ice miner, a job she inherited, along with her ship, from her mother and her grandmother before her. It’s a solitary job and she has spent most of her life alone. When an accident leaves her helpless and shipless on an ice moon, she is saved from certain death by a space trader, Leo. He takes her back to the moon’s station, where Riley is introduced to the pleasures and difficulties of close living quarters, home-cooked food and a mish-mash of holiday traditions that the station dwel...more

Riley has almost always been alone and that's what she believes she will always be. She hasn't had a lot of human contact as an ice miner but when a raider ship destroys her spacecraft she ends up finding something that she never realized she was missing... a partner and a home. She's incredibly intelligent and watching this woman soak up human contact and love was sweet to see. She just jumps in and immediately starts to try to help the people who have taken her in and given her more kindness i...more

I really liked Riley, the independent "ice tugger" heroine who knows how to fix things. She's small and pale and pixie-ish. I also liked Leo, the hero. He's a nice guy who wants Riley but doesn't try to take advantage. She jumps *him*. Refreshing!

I didn't understand some of the scifi stuff. Riley has a communication device but can't contact her crew? Why wouldn't they miss her for a month? I faded out after the 2nd sex scene faded to black.

Interesting setting on Galileo and a likeable and very competent heroine--a mechanic. I liked the contrast between 'tugger' and 'station' culture and the food scenes were funny.
Quibble: No hero POV. I missed this.

What a wonderful story. I would love to read a sequel.

Sasha is part gypsy. Her passions have always been storytelling, history, romance, and travel. She writes both lyrical romantic fantasy AND steamy contemporary romance. Her first play was written for her Girl Scout troupe. She's been writing ever since. She loves getting lost in the worlds and characters she creates; even if she frequently forgets to run the dishwasher or wash socks when she's doi...more
