Jack and Annie are at it again! This time the duo must find the evil sorcerer who is trying to steal secrets from The Magician of Sound whose “voice can be heard for a thousand miles”, The Magician of Light whose “fires glow, but they do not burn”, The Magician of the Invisible who “battles deadly enemies no one can see” and The Magician of Iron who “bends the metals of earth and triumphs over the wind” (p. 6-7). Jack and Annie find themselves pushed for time as they travel back over a hundred More...

This book is about the time when Jack and Annie visit France and they need to find these mysterious magicains for Merlin as a mission. It was tricky and difficult at first but later on they have noticed that the magicains are the special people who invented different inventions based on real magic and knoledge of their own. They start off at the worl fair in 1889, the world fair is always located underneath the Eiffel Tower. The world fair is when thousands of different people around the world c More...

My 7-year-old daughter is way into the Magic Tree House series, so I decided to read one. I had my hopes up, since the last series I got into, through her, was Junie B. Jones, and I LOVE Junie B.

However, the Magic Tree House doesn't have much magic, unfortunately. I guess it's just been too long since I liked books without engaging plot lines or characters or descriptions or action. The whole of the book was disappointing.

Partway through the book I thought, "Proba More...

Night of the New Magicians

Mary Pope Osborne has lit the imagination of so many grade schoolers with her fantastical adventures in the Magic Tree House Series. Night of the New Magicians is number thirty-five in the series and brings main characters, Jack and Annie, to Paris, France for the 1889 World’s Fair. This period of time was ripe with so many new inventions, machines, and scientific discoveries that any child would marvel over their origins and encounters with scientists like More...

I was underwhelmed by the earlier books in this series, but the "Merlin" books have a little more plot than their predecessors. Jack and Annie remain totally flat characters, but surprisingly, Thomas Alva Edison kind of comes to life.

Miles is now fully into this series, wanting to buy them all from our used book store. We're reading out of order, but it doesn't matter.

This is a fun series about a brother & sister who discover a magic tree house in the woods near their home. Inside the tree house are hundreds of books. When they look at a book, it literally takes them on fantastic journeys around the world and More...

I'm reading this one with my 6 year old son , or more acurately he's reading it to me. I adore how the author mixes historical figures and events with fantasty an adventerous curious children. Keeps my son thoroughly engaged from begining to end....as he's reading chapter four tonight he points out that Thomas Edison in the story is the same person he watched a movie about last year in 1st grade and that he invited the light bulb. I love watching the pure joy of learning that shines in his eyes More...

I've been trying to check out the books in order, but when my son is at the library he picks the ones he feels have interesting covers:) I like these later Magic Tree House books with Merlin better. They seem a little longer and therefore there is more to the story. The stories always give children a glimpse into history, but I enjoyed how this book incorporated science by including real inventors.

This was an interesting installment in the "Merlin Missions" mini-series of the Magic Tree House books. Jack and Annie travel back in time to Paris and the 1889 World's Fair. Their mission takes them on a journey to meet Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Alva Edison, Gustave Eiffel and Dr. Louis Pasteur. Though fictional, this story brings together some of the brightest scientific minds of that time and highlights the brilliance, hard work and ingenuity that led to the technological inn More...

Melanie read this and then said, "You should read this, Mom. I think you'd like it." It's the first time she's recommended a book to me, so of course I jumped right in. Afterall, there's a picture of the Eiffel Tower on it. And wouldn't you know, I learned some things from this book. A well written story with just the right blend of reality and magic. Melanie was right!

# 35 in the Magic Tree House series and in this book Jack and Annie go to Paris, France during the 1889 World's Fair to meet Lois Pasteur, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, and Gustave Eiffel! I really liked this book! I never knew that Gustave Eiffel had an apartment in the Eiffel Tower and lived there - how cool is that for an address!

It's been great reading these books to my girls, they love the easy to follow stories. I like how she tries to bridge the fantasy of magic with the real world. It was great to have some of the great advice of men like Thomas Edison and Louis Pasteur in these books, helping me as a parent to teach these important principles to my kids.

The Eiffel tower had 1562 steps. There was a lady and boy and they let jack and Annie borrow their bike because the wanted to get to the Eiffel tower faster. They used one of their magic rhymes to get there faster and it flew there. They parked the bike under the Eiffel tower. They learned the magicians secret.

They had to pedal on this two-personed bike all the way to the Eiffel Tower to help these scientists because there was this man in a cloak who was peculiar that thought they were magicians. They had to walk up the 203 stairs and when they got to the top they met that man in the cloak and it was Merlin.

Pasteur discovered invisible infections.
Bell invented the telephone.

Eiffel built the Eiffel Tower and wind can't blow it down because there are open spaces.

Thomas Edison invented the light bulb.

They were all in Paris for the World's Fair.

I'm obviously too old for these books, [I'm 16] but they're like a guilty pleasure. I'm rating it three stars because they are basic and repetitive. However, they're great books for little kids!
