Sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan. Sometimes it’s better.

Sienna Compton has it all figured out. Her life’s goals are set and it is all systems go. At least, it was. Until her long-time boyfriend Josh threw a ringer into the master plan, requesting a “break” from their relationship. Now she’s left alone during the long, cold Wyoming winter, questioning what her he

Warning: Roping and riding, past and future, cold winter and fiery desire, lust and love all come together in this new Compass series. Saddle up and hang on. The Comptons are back!

Winter’s Thaw is the first book in the Compass Girls series, and such a great story. I haven't yet read the original Compass Brothers books, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Well, I might not have known what was coming, but I got everything I could hope for, and more.

This story is a personal one for me because it has deep roots in why I became a reviewer in the first place. While there are many brilliant authors out there, there are two that I credit with my addiction to romance novels and one of them just happens to be Jayne Rylon. I remember the giddy feeling I had after reading the first book in the Power Tools series and was hooked instantly simply because I had so much fun reading it. When I di

Good start to this spin-off series. I liked how though we know the series is sort of set in the future (because Compass Brothers was current), the actual year wasn't really discussed, and the technology of talking to a person via video on a cell already exists. The authors didn't get all sci-fi on us.

I confess this didn't get as kinky as I expected in the beginning, when Sienna confessed her fantasies to Daniel. But it was still an incredibly sweet (and steamy) story. I was glad that Sienna came

Once again, the marvelous writing team of Mari Carr and Jane Rylon, have given the fans what they wanted. A much beloved family is finally coming full circle with a new generation of Comptons. The new series features the four daughters of the Compass brothers, and I’d call it a new beginning. You got to believe me when I say that when it comes to the Compton girls…the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree. Longtime fans are sure to b

This is my first Mari Carr read, and i enjoyed it very much! I like the way the characters develop, and how minor characters, both from the previous series "Compass Brothers" and characters who will later be explored in "Compass Girls",are introduced and woven into the story... it makes me want to read both series!

Winter's Thaw is a very sweet story, not overly kinky, more implied kink! There were hot sex scenes though, particularly in the barn ;D ! Sienna was a sweet, likeable character, and I
Just terrible. The writing was amateurish, as was the storyline. The novel was also very poorly paced.

I need to immerse myself into the Classics ASAP (in order to remind myself that I do indeed still love to read).

A generous *2/5 stars*
Another really good short story by Mari Carr. This one involves a recent college graduate who has planned out her whole life with the boyfriend she's known for years. First problem is that she graduates but he decides to stay at least another year at college -- not in the plan. Second, he comes home and wants a "break" in the relationship so he can spend the holidays with friend in Florida. Third, her dad hires a new ranch hand, a former rodeo champion sidelined by injuries, and those "tingles" ...more
I have to agree with most of the reviewers in saying that I was very disappointed with this first book of the Compass Girls. I read their predecessors books and they were fabulous, all four books were full of love, energy, adventure, action, laughter, loss...etc. I thought this new installment would follow the same route but it didn't.

I enjoyed 'meeting' all four daughters, they seem intriguing and unique in their own way. I found Sienna's character to be just 'blah'. There was nothing really ex
There was a lot to like about this book. The characters didn't get on my nerves in any way. The issues they all faced were very, very believable. The sex scenes were steamy. The writing form and editing were excellent.

So why only 3 stars? Because I didn't get enough of a feel for the hero and heroine to care about them being together. The authors definitely got across that they were sexually compatible, yet I never felt as if I knew much about either one. Consequentially, I didn't have that can

I liked this book, not as much as the first 4, but still, liked it enough that I will get the rest when they come out. I am a sucker for going back to a favorite book, catching up with favored characters and seeing how their lives are now....In this one we catch up with Seth and Jody. Seth and Jody play minor parts as the book is really about their daughter. It was a hoot to see Seth acting all responsible and fatherly. I am not happy with Vicky's situation at all. That was the part of the book ...more

Let me start by saying…Hell yes The Comptons are back!!! I absolutely loved the Compass Brothers series and was super excited to discover that Ms. Carr and Ms. Rylon decided to do a spin-off with the brother’s daughters called Compass Girls. First up is Seth’s daughter (we met him in Southern Comfort). I can relate to the planner in Sienna. She’s had her future with Josh mapped out for years. She is determined that it won’t change (I was never that ha
When I saw that this one was with the daughters of the Compass brothers I was intrigued. Just the fact that all the brothers had daughters was enough to make me smile, but the thought of them having to deal with their daughters love lives had me laughing.

I thought the opening was a little boring and I had a hard time trying to figure out which girl was from what brother, so I was glad that it didn’t last long and switched to the present.

I really liked how all the cousins acted with each other, t

With all the Compass men married and grown, it is now time to meet their children and hold on to your spurs cause Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon hold nothing back with the daughters of Compass Ranch. You will meet the four oldest children, who also happen to be all girls, born from each of the four Compass brothers; Silas, Seth, Sam, and Sawyer. What payback to give each strong man a daughter to raise, but you will soon learn that while each girl has the Compass stubborn streak, they are also unique. ...more
Oh Compass Ranch - I've missed you so much!! So Sienna is a typical type A who planned out her life, including her husband, at 15. Luckily for her, her future husband has a a panic-attack his last year of university and gives her some freedom. Doubly lucky for her, the new horse wrangler her dad hired makes her pulse trip from first sight and even before old boyfriend bows out, new hottie gives her a kiss she can't forget! They embark on a 'physical-only' affair while both Daniel and Sienna fall ...more
Not bad at all.
It was a bit of a mind trip that it's 20 odd years later, seeing the Compton Boys now as DADS.

Seth, was one of my favourites so it's even more shocking to see it be HIS little girl getting her own story.

I liked Daniel. A LOT.

Sienna was... well she was very set on her life path. Considering I had my over all life plan mapped out for the last 7 years, I can't really blame her. (Those who know the story of my engagement know what I'm talking about)

All in all, not bad. Same set up as

This was a pretty good story. I liked Sienna and Daniel and enjoyed their story. This series is based around the daughters of the couples from the Compass Brothers series. This book specifically is about Sienna who is the daughter of Seth and Jody from Southern Comfort. While the older couples don't appear in the story a lot it's still cool getting glimpses of how things have worked out for everyone.

Sienna is a smart young woman that has always known what she wanted. From a very youn
This was a fun read that I did so that I could read the next in the series for a group read. While I don't think it negatively impacted the reading that I hadn't read the Compass Brothers series, I definitely am interested in going back and reading about these girl's parents. Sounds like that will be some fun reading.

While Sienna would have been okay if she had moved forward in life with Josh, it wouldn't have been a full life. She was missing something and that something is Daniel. He brings ou
Sienna has her entire life planned. And that life includes Josh, her long-term boyfriend. But when Josh starts acting unpredictable Sienna’s frustration builds. In rolls (like literally, in a camper) Daniel. He doesn’t have a “plan” for his future, which seems to drive Sienna crazy. Through some flirting, sexy smiles, and a need for a massage Daniel manages to work his way into Sienna’s overly organized life and cause a little chaos.

I enjoyed this story. There wasn’t anything massive or climatic
Very good! Absolutely loved Daniel and Sieana. Their story is good and the sex is hot. Daniel was so sweet, but so strong and alpha. He could be no other way in order to win a Compton girl's heart. Afterall, Sieana is Seath and Jody's daughter.

The Compton Family is great. It was good to check in on Seath and the whole gang. The Comptons are as strong as ever but another very sad situation is happening to them. It's tragic even. Sort of my personal worst fear. But we have three more books before
I'm so glad that the authors decided to continue the Compton's stories with another series. The brothers are all married and with children and the daughters are now the focus. Sienna, Seth and Jody's daughter, is 22 and has her life planned out for her and Josh. Josh however needs a break and she's unsure of herself without a plan. Daniel has been hired to help Seth with his horse breeding program and is attracted to the boss' daughter. Sienna sees Daniel as a way to have her fling too if Josh i ...more

WINTER'S THAW has its ups and downs. I found that there were other people than the main protagonists that played a part in this story, which is why I suggest readers read the Compass Brothers series. Family drama takes center stage and when you don't know or particularly relate to the family as a whole, it's difficult to be invested in the overall storyline.

There were times when I felt the family drama took away from the romance. Hot, raunchy sex wasn't enough for me to believe wholly in the rom

4 STARS! Winter's Thaw by Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon is awesome, heartwarming, and mega hot. I love the characters, though the cover actors look nothing like my Sienna and Daniel. Sienna is not a wild girl. She's not damaged. She doesn't even have a hard life. But the girl is robotic in her pursuit to marry her lackluster high school sweetheart. Enter hot, easy going, sex God Daniel. These two had crazy good chemistry. I loved Sienna's journey to learn more about herself. Winter's Thaw is book on ...more
Sienna is Seth's daughter. She has her whole life planned out. Marry Josh, nursing career, house, kids and picket fence... That is until injured rodeo star, Daniel Lennon comes to Compass ranch to work for her father.

These polar opposites are attracted to each other like magnets. Big question is what to do about Josh, her high school sweetheart?

The cover picture says much of what needs to be said about Daniel. He is hot, sexy with no secret past. He is honest and determined to get his gal. Love h

This book takes over from the Compass Brothers series that follows the lives and loves of 4 brothers. Let me say unequivocally that if you have not read that series, drop everything and start!!! The series is phenomenal!! That said, this book lacks the depth and heart of the first series. It tells the story of the daughter of one of the brothers and how she learns to let go of her preconceived notions of what her life should be and finds real love. Because I feel so strongly about the original f ...more
I really liked this book. I especially enjoyed that it was more realistic in that she doesn't go from liking this guy to marrying him by the end of the book. I won't give away the ending but it is more realistic for a girl to act that way after getting out of a long term relationship. I liked this just as much as the Compass boys series. It is fun to see the characters 20 or so years down the road with children of their own that are growing up. I loved the reaction of the fathers. It is funny to ...more
Loved it funny warm (and hot!!) read....this is gonna be a fun ride!!!
I loved the compass Brothers stories and there come Mari and Jayne again with the stories of the girls! WOW.
Sienna Compton thinks she knows what she wants. She's got a regular, steady boyfriend. Then a new man shows up on the ranch and the sparks fly.
But, she doesn't want a new man, or does she? Her steady boyfriend wants a "break" from the relationship and the new man wants a chance. Things get real "interesting".
I'm looking forward to more of these books by Mari and Jayne. They did an aweso

Writing a book was number one on Mari Carr’s bucket list and on her thirty-fourth birthday, she set out to see that goal achieved. Five years later, her computer is jammed full of stories — novels, novellas, short stories and dead-ends and six of her books have been published.

High school librarian by day and mother of two busy teenagers, Mari Carr found time for writing by squeezing it into the ho
