This is a promising and charming debut novel and follows a young man who, after being ditched by his live-in girlfriend, throws his job over too. He does this in a funny and remarkable way. He then goes back to his parents with his tail between his legs. Searching for a meaning to his life, he revisits old friends and meets new people. Can he give his life meaning and purpose?

Really enjoyed it, so much so that I read it again. An easy read that doesn't depress and actually makes you smile and laugh out loud as you go through the journey with Simon - recommended
Sometimes you want a big epic tale that requires you to conjure up fantastical imagery with complex characters, and sometimes you want a nice, easy to read story which doesn't tax the brain too much and can pretty much just go in through your eyes without too much effort. This book is definitely in the latter category, but is nonetheless a charming story which evokes empathy for the main character and the odd chuckle along the way too.

The narrator is going through a . As a result it is necessarily quite an introspective account, but it avoids the trap of being preachy.

The book is genuinely funny in parts, and the characters that the narrator meets are well drawn.

I felt the end of the story was a bit hurried, which is the reason this isn't 5 stars.
