The beginning of this book was slow for me (I started to enjoy around chapter 7), and the characters used the word "heh" a lot. Those are the only things I can think of, to complain about. I liked the characters. I was honestly expecting some YA dystopia type book with predictable characters that I might have met in my high school gym class. I was pleasantly surprised to find the characters had depth. I was also not expecting the worlds that were described in this book. I enjoyed the originality ...more

Shadows of Penumbra is one of those novels that takes a bit of time as the story builds up, and if I try to place my imagination to view the story in my mind, I would be looking at an anime TV series. The story structured an entire community with the double AA as an organization with ranks and different responsibilities.
What I liked about the novel is the originality it has and the unraveling history of the characters which is a task well preformed.
A good start for a series where we got introd

Some bits from the Amazon reviews:

"The story is very well written and the world seems to expand quickly and in a way that leaves you wanting more..."

"There's LOTS of action in the book, and I thought the story was pretty original..."

"Sharp, puzzling, and an absolutely unpredictable novel that intrigues you over and over again..."

I love thrillers with young protagonists. Those with sci-fi or supernatural elements are even better. Victorian, steampunk, contemporary, and near-future are my favorite eras. As for location, I believe the universe is a storyteller's playground, but I prefer to stay grounded.

I currently live in San Diego, CA with my first YA thriller coming out from Crescent Moon Press.
