The beginning of this book was slow for me (I started to enjoy around chapter 7), and the characters used the word "heh" a lot. Those are the only things I can think of, to complain about. I liked the characters. I was honestly expecting some YA dystopia type book with predictable characters that I might have met in my high school gym class. I was pleasantly surprised to find the characters had depth. I was also not expecting the worlds that were described in this book. I enjoyed the originality ...more

Shadows of Penumbra is one of those novels that takes a bit of time as the story builds up, and if I try to place my imagination to view the story in my mind, I would be looking at an anime TV series. The story structured an entire community with the double AA as an organization with ranks and different responsibilities.
What I liked about the novel is the originality it has and the unraveling history of the characters which is a task well preformed.
