A new disease has struck worldwide, one that attacks and reprograms the brain, kills and controls the body, and reduces the less than living victim to a killing/eating machine.

With more than seventy-five percent of the world's population either dead or infected, only a few pockets of resistance remain. The remnants of militaries have banded together with a few volunteers t

First off, massive massive kudos to J. R. Knoll for writing a zombie apocalypse story starring a 17 year old girl with Asperger's Syndrome. How awesome is that? Straight off the bat, Zoe gets bitten but ... because her brain is set up differently, she only turns into a "half-zombie" if you will, retaining her cognitive abilities, personality, and love of Spaghetti-Os. I wanted to love this story, and it certainly had a lot going for it. Clearly, Knoll has either known ind

How much do I love that this author used a 17 year-old Asperger's girl as the main hero in this tale? So much! This novel is about a young girl named Zoe who we meet during a Zombie apocalypse. Because her brain processes things differently, when Zoe gets bitten by a zombie and is infected with the virus, while she becomes a zombie physically, it doesn't affect her brain and she retains her humanity. What's brilliant about this book is that this girl, who always stands out, stands out even more, ...more

Such an unusual take on a zombie tale. I fell in love with the character of Zoe and found the whole concept intriguing. I will be reading this one again.
Utterly Undead Reads
I must admit, I was a bit skeptical about this one. I mean, the book sounds decent, but that cover...oh, that hokey cover does this book no favors . I gave it a shot anyway, and discovered a hidden gem.

The writing is quite good, from the style and pacing to the editing. The story itself is fantastic, with just the right mix of action and 'quieter' scenes to further character development and relationships between the characters. Not once did I feel a scene was dragging or just 'filler'. Nope, thi

After just having read Warm Bodies I didn't think I could be enthusiastic about a zombie book in a long time, but i wanted to read some book by the author as I met him on deviantart.

And what can I say? For the most parts I truly enjoyed the story of Zoe.
So much so, that i stayed up until 3 am the other night to finish it.
Zoe is a really likeable main character. The whole plot isn't something completely new,... (view spoiler)

Zombie stories, we know them we love them but there is ittle in the way of variety. The whole premise is that mindless zombies (whatever they may be called by the people in the books) are running rampant and its up to the survivors to either, well, survive or fight back. Nothing new right? Zoe, Undead changes that.

Sure there are your typical 'give me brains' brainless zombies but this book does not follow the survivors persay.. it actually follows someone bitten, a zombie and yet, not. Zoe is

I loved this book!!! First off, how cool is it to have an autistic main character who becomes so bad ass and brave in the site of danger! Zoe was such a well developed character who grows over time and is the most sweetest and funny person in this whole book. I was routing for Zoe all the way! I also so felt so many feelings for her and the way she spoke about herself, all I wanted to do was reach into the book and grab her by the shoulders and tell her how amazing, and special, and needed she ...more

This may be one of the most interesting zombie books I've read. Well written. Pulled me along from start to finish.

I only noticed one error and one cringe moment. There's a scene when the Colonel is talking to Zoe and the Sergeant. During the conversation, one of the paragraphs begins with something like 'the Sergeant continued'. I looked it over a couple of times, and no, it was the Colonel who continued talking.

The cringe moment was when the Doctor said Zoe, with Asperger syndrome, 'had the mi

I enjoyed the concept. A zombie who is not completely a zombie. The cover is strange. It captures the story but there is something about it I do not like. I loved J.R. Knoll's The Chronicles of Brawrloxoss. That is the main reason I decided to read this. Over all I like the book but the way some things were explained and/or written could have been improved.

Excellent story. It was a nice change of pace to read a zombie tale where civilization doesn't degrade to rape and enslavement of the remaining females, the military isn't a power hungry, corrupt entity and survivors try their best to look out for one another. I was sad to see this one end and would absolutely love it if the author decided to continue on and turn this into a series.

Seventeen-year-old half-zombie Zoe's quest to avenge her dead family is full of surprises and unexpectably poignant. The action doesn't let up for a second. I was sorry to see the story end. It's a fast read, because once you pick up the book, you won't want to put it down.

Cute zombie story - a bit too idealistic

was a cute zombie story and fun to read. Zoe grows into her hunter role too quickly, too well and too comfortably. despite that flaw the book is good, character development is not bad and the story is exciting.

This was a great zombie apocalypse book. I loved the special needs factor and how strong they made her character.
