The Promise is a regency romance tale with more than a hint of the paranormal added to the mix.

The story begins in tragedy as Anthony, the 18 year old son of the Duke of Aldbourne loses Lady Marianne in a freak accident involving a carriage. As lady Marianne dies a daughter, Elizabeth, is born to the Duchess of Wickford.

The story then moves forward 18 years to where Elizabeth meets Anthony at the annual Thornhill Ball. And this is where the fun really begins. There is a lot of to-ing and fro-ing...more

Since losing his beloved Lady Marianne, Anthony Thornhill has spiraled into a life of debauchery, and an endless parade of women. His excesses have been noted by the ton, and he's been deemed a rake in more ways than one. In his heart, it's hard for him to forget the woman who meant so much to him. She's everything he wanted, and more. He'd do anything to get her back, but he knows that's something that will never happen. That is, until the moment he sets eyes on the beautiful Lady Elizabeth Cha...more

Note I was provided this for free to review: That being said it did not effect my love for this book! I must say it has been awhile since a historical romance has caught my attention! I read this book very quickly! I loved the banter between the Duke and Lady Elizabeth and I loved the concept! True Soul mates exist and not even death can separate them. I love historical romance but a lot of modern ones have left me disappointed due to the lack of research with their time period, however Lauren H...more

The Promise

Even at a young age Anthony knew lady Marianne was the woman for him. They had fun, talked, danced, you could say soul mates. When she dies in an accident, Anthony doesn't do to well with the tragedy. He knows he can never love another. So he goes from one women to another and builds a reputation of a rake. Several years later, like 18, he is at a party and sees a woman, Lady Elizabeth. She is lovely and for some reason he is very drawn to her. He wants to get to know her. He asks her...more

The Promise is a charming Regency romance with a paranormal twist. The Regency format is one I haven't read a lot of, but as the reader, I felt transported back to a more genteel time when manners and class distinctions were so important.

The Lady Elizabeth is pursued by Anthony, the heir to the Duke of Albourne. She resists, believing he is betrothed to someone else; he pursues. Their relationship is explored at a leisurely pace such that as the reader, I felt as though I were sitting in my parl...more

This was my first regency romance and I must say that I enjoyed it very much. I felt like I was transported back in time to the 1800's when upper class people spoke and behaved "properly". Awesome!

It was nice reading a romance novel without sex. I thought that Anthony and Elizabeth were going to get together much sooner then they did but was glad that they didn't because Ms. Hunter surprised me when it happened. I found myself smiling throughout the story, well done Ms. Hunter. I highly recommen...more

A most unusual Regency novel. Besides being so very authentic in its detailing, the twist of the para-normal influence is wholly believable and adds a gripping edge of your seat can't put down to this work, that I found quite appealing. Unlike a lot of other reviewers, I am not going to go into the story line in intimate detail as others here are doing a very detailed job of that. So if you would like to be delighted with a refreshing change and not cheat, immediately go out and get a copy and i...more

One of the highlights of being a book blogger is getting to meet and become acquaintances with authors. One of the downsides of doing this is that you agree to read books you might not otherwise have chosen. This is my biggest problem with this book. I am not a huge fan of Regency stories. I find them very formal and subtle and the way women act and are treated annoy me. But I do love paranormal stories, and I adored Lauren’s last book. So I gave it a try.

I found that it wasn’t really for me. Th...more

This delightful Regency tale takes historical fiction one step further, by exploring relationship that time and death cannot sever by introducing paranormal elements. Lauren Hunter’s extensive research into this period is evident and creates a traditional setting for this non-traditional story. Her use of humour and dialogue brings the characters to life, crafting an engaging story with witty repartee.
