I love short stories -- but it is quite difficult, I think, for a short story to be really enjoyable. Sometimes, the length limits the story to be really good. This one, however, I LOVE IT!! For me, It is what a satisfying short story should be :-).

This is a great, and much too short, snapshot of two men's lives in the 1920s with just enough detail in behavior and language to make it feel very authentic. The two main characters obviously love each other, but since they didn't see a way of staying together, Jessie (the older) pushed Eli away five years ago. Luckily, his tactic didn't work.

Eli Mayhew is finally going to meet up again with Jessie “The Demon” Dalton. After five years of waiting Eli is ecstatic, since he’s had a crush on the older boxer since he was a kid. Introduced by Eli’s uncle, who is Jessie’s manager, the two spent years in each other’s close company – until a trial and fall from grace had Jessie withdrawing, needing to lick his wounds. Jessie has been in love with Eli since the man’s twentieth birth...more

Five years ago, Eli Mayhew’s heart was broken by Jessie “The Demon” Dalton, former Heavyweight Boxing Champion, and the older man Eli loved…still loves, if the truth be told. But things were not meant to be at a time when Jessie was at the lowest point of his life and his career in the ring was going down for the count. Of the new authors I've read in the past year, Charlie Cochet has quickly become one of my favorites. I try to read whatever she publishes as soon as I can, because for a genre that I'm not typically a fan of, historicals, I've learned by now that in this author's hands I'll always be pleased.
This story is no exception, set in a time period she often writes, the 1920s. It tells the story of Jessie Dalton, or "The Demon", a boxer that is pushing...more

Centered around the boxing scene of the 1920s, this is a sweet story about two guys finding their way back to each other after five long years apart. Both Jessie and Eli come across as such decent people, and their love for one another shines through their every interaction, so that I couldn’t help but root for them in their quest for happiness.

I love the way that Ms Cochet brings to 1930's to life with the slang and feel of the time. This wonderfully written short story featured the prize fighter, Jessie Dalton and Eli. There is a decent size age difference between the two men but they finally get a second chance at the love they missed five years ago. This short is packed with action and emotion which is a rarity in a thirty page story. I likes the way that Ms Cochet save...more

Although I am not a fan of historical settings ( this one is set in the 1920's) or of boxing, I did like Eli and Jessie!
And Uncle Jasper is a great guy!
Eli had a huge case of hero worship going for years watching Jessie 'The Demon' a over his Uncle Jasper managed.
Something happened 5 yrs before that destroyed Jessie's confidence and he decided to stay away from Eli to protect him.
But now Eli decided something is to be done..and goes for what he wants.

Charlie Cochet never disappoints me, she has a knack of writing some really interesting stories that always appeal and I have enjoyed every one of them so far. In His Corner is a short story about Jessie and Eli, its a brief glimpse of a romance that never had a chance to get off the ground 5 years ago. Boxing is what brings them back together again and Jesse's boxing match had the perfect outcome and I was cheering him on all the way. Its good and the guys are sweet.

Basically a snippet about two guys who were separated by circumstances and Jessie's one sided decision. They are likable though hardly developed. I liked Eli's uncle Jasper. The historical setting is clear, but the story lacks atmosphere of Cochet's other stories. Decent story, but the author can do much, much better.

m/m Romance author by day, artist by night, Charlie Cochet is quick to succumb to the whispers of her wayward muse. From Historical to Fantasy, Contemporary to Science Fiction, no star is out of reach when following her passion. From hardboiled detectives and society gentleman, to angels and elves, there’s bound to be plenty of mischief for her heroes to find themselves in, and plenty of romance,...more

“Eli's a good kid, Jasper. Too good for the likes of me. He deserves better."
Jasper shot him a penetrating look. "What he deserves is a nice dame, but seeing as how that ain't in the cards, you're the next best thing." "Wow." Jessie stared in disbelief. "No one's ever insulted me with a compliment before. That's some talent you got there, Jasper.”
