Why: Loved One Perfect Summer

Rating: 3.5 stars

Brief synopsis: Alice and Joe return in the sequel to One Perfect Summer - a novella available only as an e-book - catching up a year after their Dorset reunion.

What I thought: I said I would be honest in my reviews so here goes - I didn't like this. If it hadn't have been the sequel to One Perfect Summer (and possibly a bridge into the next instalment), it would have only been a 3 star rating.

Paige Toon books are always a winner in my book. There is just something about British chick-lit that appeals to me.

This is a fun little novella about a woman who reconnects with her first love and then must choose between her husband and him. The story starts out in the present and then goes back in time to find out why she made the decisions that she did. The writing was good and held my interest throughout the whole story.

I felt like I couldn't rate it any higher thou...more

Paige Toon brings us the eagerly awaited ending to Joe and Alice’s story.

After ‘One Perfect Summer’ we were left wondering what was going to happen to Joe and Alice when the book left us wanting more and ‘One Perfect Christmas’ does not disappoint.

‘One Perfect Christmas’ is a lovely festive novella that finishes their story so beautifully, it really does leave you with love in your heart and a smile on your face.

And don’t worry we also get to catch up with the lovely Jessie and Emily as well as...more

One Perfect Summer was such an enjoyable book..
As a girl with a similar experience, I loved getting lost in the story of Alice and Joe.. so when I found out that there was a short story that told what happened next, I immediately bought the e-book..
It was a big disappointment!
A fair share of the story was recapping what happened in One Perfect Summer.. There is a wedding, and there is a hint to what may happen next, but.. nothing was developed!
If the intention and purpose of this "book" was jus...more

I wasn't so sure if I wanted to read this short story sequel to "One Perfect Summer", but I just couldn't resist after the sucky ending of the main book.
I loved this little tale. It explains a lot about the year after "One Perfect Summer" ended. I got sucked in so quickly that I basically read it in one sitting. But just when you start adoring the story, it suddenly ends. I somehow hope Paige Toon will have the time to elaborate on that story again one day...

Besides, I read my first e-book. I n...more

After finising Paige Toon’s latest novel One Perfect Summer, I immediately rushed to my Kindle to read the short story sequel to the novel, One Perfect Christmas. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of One Perfect Summer. I didn’t like Alice very much, and I felt it was a re-telling of Pictures of Lily but in a different setting. Plus, the ending was horribly abrupt. One Perfect Christmas goes a little way to patching up the rough ending, but, really, Toon should have just held her horses and wro...more

I couldn't wait to read One Perfect Christmas.
It's the first book I've bought on my new kindle Paperwhite. But I must say I was a little disappointed.
The book seemed to go back and forth about what happened throughout the year with Lukas unwilling to give Alice a divorce and trying to get her back and mainly focused on Alice's insecurities about Joe working with a female actress which generated lots of rumours, but she wouldn't go public with their relationship because she wanted to keep her nor...more

I was wetting my pants to read this book and find out what happens. This book does give you the answers you craved ...........but I WANTED MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have even waited a little longer for the 2nd book to come out if I knew I was going to be given more. Like I say it satified me because I got all the answers I needed but I didn't want it to end ever! I really would like to hear more of Joe and Alice's story......PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSE!

What a brilliant way to give readers a carry on of a brilliant book! It was lovely to go back and see what the characters had been up to, but also to see that this short story would stand alone.
Paige never lets her readers down and this short story is just what we needed with seasonal cheer. Also a brilliant way for new readers to be introduced to Paige.

Where to start? "One Perfect Christmas" is a great addendum to One Perfect Summer. It doesn't pick up exactly where the book left off but Paige Toon manages to find a way to integrate past and present into the book. The book's plot was neatly summarized.

What I found most inspiring was how Ms. Toon was able to show us Joe and Alice now in the present while also doing flashbacks to the past to events that weren't included in the book.

And best of all was a small except from her next book, The Lon...more

I loved this novella it was good to catch up with Joe and Alice. I think this book moved the story along so that when the sequel picks up they will be contending a relationship against the trappings of fame and fortune. I look forward to it but I really hope they get their HEA as Joe & Alice are perfect for each other.

I can't say I don't like it but it's just one plain reading. I don't know what to expect and I have no idea what perfect Christmas the author is trying to say anyway.

Perhaps I should have read one perfect summer prior to this one.

I didn't see the point of this book, why not just wait and do a sequel?! She ends the book as if there will be another short story? I did love the story and loved catching up with Joe and Alice but felt a little disappointed!

I immediately read this straight after finishing the prelude "one perfect summer!" And I loved it, it was great to see how they had progressed. It was just a shame it was a short story and not a complete novel. :-(

Lovely short story read it an hour, but still leaves you wanting more. Wonder if Paige will return to the story of Alice, Joe and Lukas at some point again in the future?

Enjoyable book, but was expecting so much more than a few pages. Was just getting into it and it ended without telling you how things evolved when the truth of Alice and Joes relationship came out.

Loved it!! the only bad thing to say was it was over way too soon!! :-)

Only took me about 40 minutes to read, was short and sweet but a nice little addition to the characters we met in One Perfect Summer.

I really enjoyed reading more from Paige Toon. She's definitely one of my favourite authors and I always end up reading her books way too fast! This was no exception, unfortunately it's a short story, so for me it was 67 pages long. But I really enjoyed "catching up" with the characters from her last book "One perfect summer". Since it was a while since I read that book I didn't remember who all the characters where, but she had written this in a way that I soon remembered the whole story from "...more

I love this author, yes her books are chick lit in the most evidently possible way but I can't help but love it! I can relate to her characters and imagine myself being the heroine. My only criticism of this story is I wish it was a full length novel not just a short christmas story.

I am eagerly anticipating her next story which no doubt will be perfect to enjoy whilst sat on the beach sipping a cocktail!

It felt like it was over before it even started. Loved it though. No closure for me though.
