I enjoyed "This Green Hell" so much that I immediately picked up the next one in the series. This despite the fact that I am almost always disappointed when I do this. No exception this time.
Alex Hunter contracted the "melting disease" at the end of the last book. Rather than dying he was saved by Israeli doctors and military. When he regained consciousness, he had forgotten who he was. When his mother gets attacked by some sort of monster, Alex senses her destruction and comes back to himself....more

This isn’t my usual sort of book but I was interested in it because of the mystical side and that it was set (in part) in North Carolina and in particular Asheville which I have a very soft spot for. A lovely place to holiday incidentally, and there are wonderful ‘Yutes’ to stay in above the town, with fabulous views along the river. But I digress…

This book is awesome, fantastic, mind-blowing and many other superlatives. The author has taken one of the most popular legends - that of Bigfoot - and given it a brilliant twist, turning what could have been a very typical story into something endlessly interesting. My first thought when I started reading was: It's story about Sasquatch being real - what's not to like? I soon began to realize that it was a lot more than just that. It is at times hard to follow a book when there are too many sub...more
ARCADIAN IS THE MAN!
This was the best Alex Hunter/Arcadian yet. He is by far the baddest soldier you would never want to meet!
When I first started reading the book I was a little disappointed in that there wasn't much Arcadian action going on, BUT, the more I read, I started to realize that this book was headed for a big finish and I was not disappointed (there was a method to the author's madness ;-). When I finished the book, it all made sense as the author was just letting things build slowly...more

Military/thriller/horror.
Greig Beck is one of my favourite authors these days.
His Alex Hunter series is a wonderful set of books that seem to cross the void between Michael Crichton, Andy McNab and Matthew Reilly.
If you like wonderfully-plotted tales, strong and unique characters, and heavily-researched mythos, then try a Greig Beck book.
Black Mountain, the fourth Arcadian book, looks at the long-held beliefs and legends of Bigfoot and the Yeti. Taken from a scientific viewpoint, the explanation...more

4th in the Arcadian series, and I think the best. The series revolves around Alex Hunter, the Arcadian, a super-soldier who leads an elite military team on the most dangerous missions possible. The first 3 books were mainly about the team entering a remote and isolated location to do battle with monsters. Kind of a combination action-adventure/horror novels. This one picks up where This Green Hell left off. The Arcadian, infected by some strange virus, wakes up 6 months later with no knowledge o...more
An enjoyable 4th book in the Arcadian series. Alex Hunter has survived his injuries in the previous novel - but it has come with a cost. He has a shock and realises he has to go back to his home and the only family he has left. However its a family in danger and maybe Alex alone may not be enough to save them.
This installment progresses the story well and I was grateful that it didn't end in a cliffhanger like This Green Hell but the seeds for the next book seem sown and I'll pick it up when it...more

I really wanted to like this book, after all, it continues from the cliff-hanging finale of "this Green Hell" which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
Unfortunately, this book was a little too "formulaic" or "paint by the numbers".. from Alex Hunters recovery, to amnesia to conflicted relationship with Adira (who turns from spunky, strong admirable soldier to clingy, insecure female, just like that)
The non-human antagonist was interesting, but the human antagonists added nothing to the...more

I liked this Alex Hunter novel. The development of his character is well done. The story gave lots of variety and plenity of cliffhanger moments that kept my attention.
I would suggest the ALex Hunter series especially to the male readers, particularly the 14 yrs and onwards, who I believe would enjoy these book in particular.

This is one amazing book following Alex Hunter, a new generation of super soldiers. This is the fourth book in the series and the quality has only gotten better. Locked in the hospital with his memories gone, Alex Hunter goes on a journey to save his loved ones. Fast paced, exciting and a touching story.
