1215 A.D.: The reign of King John means dark days for all of England. Not one man, woman or child lived without fear.

Magnifying this fear is the man they call The Lord of the Shadows - a terrifying figure who sits at the right hand of the King, manipulating the royal moves like a puppet master. The Lord of the Shadows has been known to tear men apart with his bare hands an

This reminded me a lot of some classic Virginia Henley I read years and years ago. English monarchy, court cruelty, and political intrigue abound in this book.

It was an entertaining enough read, although I would have preferred a bit more "interaction" between the H and the h as the story progressed. I don't think this author will become a go-to for me for historicals by any means, but I can definitely see myself reading more from her in the future.

Story about the oppressive, debauchery reign of King John which lead to the signing of Magna Carta. Most ofthe characters are real-life historical figures like the Earl of Pemberly, Joceline, and of course the King. Promising enough however,
Lord of the shadows started out pretty-well. I though at first the prose was beautiful and because I've been aticipating it for a whole week, I started reading out loud the first couple of pages. In truth, I am obtuse enough that I may not have noticed what f

Like the allure of a good beheading, it was pure entertainment.

OK, I will admit I was wrong. I WAS WRONG. During the first read, this seemed pretty dreadful, and I even tweeted some snotty things about it.

But after finishing this, I read By Royal Command, aka Death By Thesaurus. And then I read a certain gay BDSM mistorical that will forever be the definition of "dreadful."

So I upgraded Lord of the Shadows from a D+ to a C-. I can’t really recommend it, but it’s a helluva lot better t

Second book in the Magnificent Medieval Men boxed set.

My first Kathryn Le Veque book. WOW!!!! It was simply amazing! I'm floored! And, I'm off to Amazon to get as many of her books as I can afford right now. Sheesh! I can't believe I have never read anything by this talented author before. But, I will furiously be making up for lost time. ;)

Recommends it for: Medieval Romance Lovers, Great Love Stories
Audio Version: Story - 5, Narration - 5

This was a fantastic story! I must admit, it took me about 30 minutes to completely get into it but once I did, I was hooked. I listened in less than a day. I absolutely loved the chemistry between the hero and heroine. Their love is so beautiful and though it progresses quickly it is genuine. Sean de Lara is a most gallant and honorable hero, one to go down in history IMO. There’s much more to him than meets the eye. Sheridan is a marvelous heroine, smart,

***** For some reason the stars won't work for me from my blackberry so I will just say I give it 5 stars. Yet another great book from Kathryn Le Veque. I have read a few of hers now,and no matter which one I have picked I enjoyed it. The history is so well written the characters grab you right away. If real history books in school were like this I for one would have paid much more attention. The romance is exciting and fun. The story in this one shows that sometimes you have to give everything ...more

This audiobook review comes with a warning label: If you’re a person who doesn’t like to smudge your mascara, dislike dark, edgy suspense, disapprove of the mayhem and wildness of the Medieval period in England, and hate crying buckets of tears chapter after chapter, I suggest you forego listening to this book.

This is the second book I’ve read by author Kathryn Le Veque and was excited to be able to listen to the narration, produced by Brad Wills. Both book and narration are over the top. Truly,

This was a very well written story, with a lot of history and a lot of action involved in it. Dealing with the reign of John II of England, best known as the tyrant from the Robin Hood stories, and period leading up to the Seige of London in 1215, Lord of the Shadows ends with the signing of the document that would come to be known as the Magna Carta. Le Veque even uses that name in the story, although the document in question did not gain the name until it's second revision, in 1217, and then i ...more

I've read quite a few books by Le Veque. This story is very typical of her writing. She draws the reader in to the story, has outstanding historical research and the plots are a bit different than the norm. (At least the books of hers I've read.)

This has a terribly wicked hero who is absolutely not what he appears to be. The heroine needed a little more development I felt. She was supposed to be strong and intelligent, atypical for women of the day, but she came off as flighty.

Read as part of the boxed set: Magnificent Medieval Men

I began my original quest of romance as opposed to smut and my search led me to authoress LeVeque. I have already read one story of hers, and looked forward to this one; I was not disappointed.

The Lord of Shadows is a knight of fearsome reputation and even the king he protects is wary of his knight, Sean de Lara. Sean does not like what he has had to do as a spy but much like my beloved Severus Snape, there is more to Sean than a past of sc

A Roller Coaster of a Ride

Surprisingly I stumbled upon this incredible story not through Kathryn's website. But am so happy to have done so no matter the convoluted route I took to discover it... In fact convoluted is a term just as applicable to the storyline. Try to read this where you will not be distracted. There are many references and clues interspersed so subtlety that I would without reservation qualify this among the top three(3) Le Veque books ever published (out of the several dozen f

Very captivating!

This was. An exciting book but somehow difficult to get into. I think it is so heavy on the historical aspects that it's hard to follow the characters. And six months of silence? I would not be speaking to the man! Good to see the De Lara name and hear more of their story.

LOVED this one! The twist and turns are never guessable. Every time you think you know which way the story is headed, it surprises! The romance does feel a bit unrealistically over the top but hey, that's part of what makes it so fun - especially against the dark, brutal side of the historical aspects.

I stayed up till 2 a.m. to finish this baby! It was well worth the drag of the next day. ;) This is the 3rd book by this author I've read and once again I throughly enjoyed it. I like how all of the heroes in her books are all giant men. I just wish if they all got together the author told us who was the biggest. Yes, these are the things I think about when I read! I also would have liked if the hero talked more about his family and how he become the feared "Shadow". His brother Kevin and Father ...more

For me that was a 3.5Stars! And i would definitely recomend these Book!
I have read the many Kritiks about it's historical accuracy (or lack of it!) - I'm no expert but i liked the Plot very much and think that the mention of the Heroine skirts by her medical traetment would not have been of any good ......
It was a solid, nice written Story.
