Yancey Muncey is dead. Or, he was. Raised from the grave by the shadowy figure of Dr. Blankenship, Yancey is now back in high school, hanging out with his best friend, and working up the nerve to ask the girl of his dreams to the upcoming Halloween carnival.

But not everything is the same as it was before: Yancey’s eyes are yellow, his skin is blue, and he’s indestructible.

Wow! Wax hooked me from page one. Going from AFTER to BEFORE was a brilliant idea which kept me in major suspense. I would love to see this book continued, Phil Duncan's tale is definitely not over!

Yancey was a typical boy: dysfunctional family, sucky school, unapproachable crush and all. "Yancey Muncy was born. He went to school for a while. Then he died. Then he was reborn, went to school for a while, and could never die again." Pretty much sums it up. I don't know how I could properly review

A wonderful, funny, and thoughtful take on getting a second chance, YA style. High school student Yancey Muncy has typical issues--he's afraid to talk to a beautiful girl, he must compete for attention with two high-achieving siblings, and his parents are fighting due to financial worries--but he's also dead. Thanks to Easter Oil, a resurrection serum, Yancey gets another chance to live life (with a few side effects, of course). With a flair for theatrical names, a great ear for dialogue, and an ...more

I don't often read YA, but Phil is a friend of mine. I loved the updated take on Frankenstein. The story is wildly creative and the descriptions and plotting were great. I sometimes wished the characters faced harsher consequences, but I attribute that entirely to the genre, not the writer. Well done, Phil!

Phil is a great friend and it was truly an honor to read his first published novel. That being said...I couldn't put it down. It was a fantastic book, well written, fun to read and I'm very excited to read the next ones to come out. I'm proud of my friend and honored to know him!
