Reaping Me Softly was an engaging start to a planned trilogy.
Arianne has a lot going on in her life. Her sister Carrie is sick in the hospital, she has the full attention of Darla, the queen bee and ruling bully of the school, and Ari has a special ability to see the souls of those who’ve died. There is one bright spot in her life, Niko a classmate she’s had a crush on since freshman year finally takes notice of her after years of crushing on him.
Niko is a Reaper, one who is depressed and lost...more

Reaping Me Softly was a very pleasant surprise. There is just no other way to describe how I feel after reading it. Ms. Evangelista did a fantastic job with developing the plot, the romance and especially the characters. I was engaged right from the first page and it remained that way until the ending. In fact, on more than one occasion, I was wishing the story would never end. Reap...more
I like this book and enjoyed reading it, but at the end it feels like everyone is dead. (view spoiler)[ First there is Carrie, then Ben (I was shocked when it happened so easily) . I wish that Ben was still alive because he was such a great character. I really liked him and at first I though something 'romantic' would have happened between Arianne and him but no and it's better like that because it would have been too predic...more
Ever since I finished reading Kate’s first published novel, Taste, I immediately became a big fan of hers and was very much looking forward to more works from her. So when I found out that she has a trilogy, I was thrilled. Very, very thrilled. And I was lucky enough to get a paperback copy from her. I’ve always loved the idea of Grim Reapers so when I found out that this is the concept of her book, it only...more
Firstly I would like to thank Kate Evangelista, author of Reaping Me Softly, for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this fabulous book.
Ah! What a great pleasure. I loved this book and the cute and sweet essence of it. The concept of this book is awesome and refreshing and the blurb totally sucked me in and I signed up for reviewing this book. Thanks to my better judgement that I picked up...more
DNF. Contrary to my usual habit of trying to finish even books I've already perceived as ones I won't like, I've now decided to save myself the wincing and going through the wanting-to-rip-out-my-hair-phase, especially since my reading time has been drastically reduced now that uni has started again.
As I'm not really in the mood to write a long, eloquent review outlining in detail all the things that made Reaping Me Softly an unr...more

I can't even start to say how sweet was this book. I totally fell in love with Niko! And the romance between him and Arianne was overwhelming and warmed my heart.
I loved Ari, Niko, Ben, Tammy and Carrie, and in a way I also liked Tomas. I had mixed feelings about Death at first, but in the end I simply loathed him immensely. How cruel was he?!
Darla was very very very mean for a villain. I mean, seriously?

Reaping Me Softly is the first book I have read by Kate Evangelista.Reaping Me Softly is about Arianne, who see's spirits and Niko who is a reaper. They go to the same high school, where they deal with a bully,Arianne's sick sister and so much more.
I felt this story flowed really well,It definitely was a page turner.I did have a few issues with the book,I think Arianna honestly took Niko being something not human a bit to easily. She didnt question i...more
Arianne has be keeping a secret ability from everyone: her dying sister, her parents everyone. Until one day she decides to tell her childhood best friend Ben. She can see ghosts.
Not only does she have this ability that plagues her. She has the added stress of as mentioned above her sister Carrie has kidney failure and is dying, she is the victim of intense bullying by Darla and she is still invis...more

I love Niko. I mean I absolutely love him. And Ben the sacrifices he makes will tug at your heartstrings. Ben’s love for Carrie will have you cry but the real and I mean real tearjerker in the end that will have you needing Kleenex galore is Niko and Arianne. Those two show you what first love and pure love is. How one sacrifices for love selflessly.
Arianne, a introverted and lost young woma...more
The answer is simple: you get Kate Evangelista’s book Reaping Me Softly where seventeen year old Arianne finds out the “love of her life” is a reaper. Although she can already she dead people because of a near death experience on the cutting table, she was not prepared to see the boy she love feed on souls. Yes, apparently that’s how reapers stay so young, fit, and alive....more
There are many things I can say about this book but I'll keep it short.
The start of the book seemed a bit confusing for me but the moment we actually got into the story, I felt I was starting to connect with the characters which I really enjoyed.
The romance between the two main characters was both romantic and I felt it was a bit sudden. I found it odd that Niko only notices Ari one year after they were at the same school together and...more
This book starts out with Arianne admitting to Ben, her best friend, that she sees dead people. He handles every new surprise she throws his way with calm belief and acceptance. The relationship between these two is so deep and amazingly sweet. I instantly fell in love with them both. Then you get to me...more
this is one of those books that i must admit confused me in the beginning until i realised how all the characters fit together and then it was amazing. when i asked for this book to review i did it with no knowledge of what it was about only that it was by the wonderful Kate Evangelista and i must say i am glad i did not read the blurb because on reading it after the book i was disappointed in how much is given away. that being said the book was wonderful,...more
I'm a huge fan of Kate Evangelista's work! It doesn't matter which genre the book is, I always enjoy her writing.
The book focuses on the love story between Arianne, a some what normal girl apart from the fact she can see the souls of the dead and suffers horrendous bullying thanks to Darla, and Niko, a reaper who hasn't seen the point in his many lives until he meets Ari, and realises there might be a reason to stop himself from the fade.
Niko is adorable. I'd love to get myself...more

Reaping Me Softly is an interesting read. It's nice to read something that is not vampire or werewolf in the paranormal genre. The author did a good job in developing the plot as well as the characters in the story. Niko was a refreshing character. I like how he took care Arianne and trying his best way to protect her. Arianne was a...more

Reaping Me Softly is a book about a Reaper that falls for a human girl and they both experience a lot of things that allows them to grow closer to one another. I felt like this book had an interesting idea about the Reapers and Death, but I wish the plot would have stayed more towards the aspect that involved Reapers. The book seemed to constantly find a wa...more
Reaping Me Softly was a book that kept you easily in the story. I found the writing quite poetic. There were so many beautiful words used but at the same time it felt close to you and connected you with the story as any other book.
Arianne is an average person that reminds you of people around you. It's easy to get her and both understand and like her. Her environment (family, friends, etc) is...more
I've had a hard time rating this novel, and am still not completely sure. I guess I'd give it a 2.5: nice enough in some parts, and difficult for me to get into in others.
What I liked:
* The world of Death and the Reapers. Their hierarchical, bureaucracy-like organization formed an interesting counterpart with how some of them, at least, seemed to look out for each other. Death is a ha...more
