WOW! I CAN'T BE TO THE END ALREADY! Ms. Cosway has done it again. I loved this book. The best part about this series is that the heroine is an unsure, timid (rightfully so) 17 year old and is so refreshing in her awkwardness that I just want to jump in and help her. When I first read the summary for this book, I was afraid I was not going to like the direction of this story. I believe my fear came because I enjoined the first book so much. But, of course, I was not let down, the story is brilliant! You get all our essentials for a good story: romance, mystery, and action. Ok, I admit, I rated this a little low. But, I do not think it is as good as the first novel, and I gave that a 4. Here's why:

In this novel, some of our characters continue to grow. On the other hand, I lose sight of a lot of our secondary characters in any way that matters. I feel like I know what they are doing, but don't feel invested in them at all. I just didn't care. If ever there was a reason why you should check if your favorite authors have written anything new this book is it. We had no idea Ms. Cosway had put out the sequel to A Strange Fire until we checked it out on Amazon. Kay so I read the first one and this one back to back so if i start mixing the two i am sorry and i have warned you so :p

I LOVED the first one, and I honestly thoroughly enjoyed this one as well. There was just me being crazy reasons for not giving it a total five, and that is i suppose i wanted more from Frank's family, i felt they were still distant in this book, and also i was expecting her father to be a lot worse than he was... i mean he was bad yeah but i am crazy and i like it when bad =...more Kay so I read the first one and this one back to back so if i start mixing the two i am sorry and i have warned you so :p

I LOVED the first one, and I honestly thoroughly enjoyed this one as well. There was just me being crazy reasons for not giving it a total five, and that is i suppose i wanted more from Frank's family, i felt they were still distant in this book, and also i was expecting her father to be a lot worse than he was... i mean he was bad yeah but i am crazy and i like it when bad = on verge of bat-shit cra cra, but that is personal choices, and likes.

My first pieces of advice, did you read the first one? Yes? Good. If you have not and you want to see whether this series is worth the start, and follow through? Well then my answer without giving much of this book away is yes. It is worth your time and moneys. So do it, and go back to looking at the first one because there will be "spoilers" from the first one in this review otherwise i wouldn't be able to talk about anything so go away if you don't want the spoilers of the first book. Good? Good.

Okay so back to my first thoughts for those you have read the first one (yeah i am watching you those who have not) So Flo i feels in the first book took figuratively 10 steps forward, and honestly i don't know quite how i feel about her in the very few chapters. I think i liked how it played out because its realistic, its not the run of the mill well i am totally BA now so sod off, yeah i am feeling a little British after reading these, sorry i'll stop. So anyways. Her reaction to me seems more natural, and realistic and i liked that i truly did but after seeing her grow so much in the first book i am kinda sad all it takes is one loaded look from padre - apparently i'm feeling Spanish now too? moving on - one loaded look from padre and suddenly we are the victim again. now writing that i think i am happier with how it goes down. Because in the first book she might have grown as a person but in the end she never faces her true demons...teehee get it? demons? no fine, i'll just laugh its fine. Anyways back to the plots and what nots. i thought that now learning that she isn't just a human with the powers of an empath was interesting and opens the series up to a whole new world so to put. near the end i was beginning to wonder though how will L.H. Cosway would make another after this one, but she puts a twist in there for us, and i am eager for the next one. So overall i am glad that we weren't dealing with witches again! YAY because i was seriously expecting that mostly because i didn't look at the summary when i started reading this one.

Okay okay moving on to the characters but this is going to be a lot smaller than my first review on the first book because if you have read the first book you know most of their personality traits.

Flo: i think that even in fear Flo is one of the most selfless heroines i have run across because she is so willing to give up everything to keep the ones she is learning to love safe. Though i don't think Flo is quite healed completely by the end of this book she is beginning to get there but at some points and maybe i am just taking this entirely wrong but i almost felt like she was still longing to be with her father, i think its mostly something that for now will be a day to day thing because what the hell do i know? i have two parents, married and well complete opposite. But NOT the point. Flo may take 10 steps back but she is 30 ahead by the end of the book, she still has a lot to learn and a lot of growing to do, i am eager to find out how she handles her new life in the next book... i hope there is a next one? either way i am checking out L.H.'s other series because you meet some of the characters in this book. if you have read her other series.

Frank: Frank Frank Frank Frank Frank i don't know. He is even more flirty in this one than the first one, other characteristics really start to shine through as well, he becomes a bit more observant than in the first one picking up on things dealing with Flo, sometimes he is also quieter than i would like him to be. Anyways still loving Frank but how can you not?

So other side characters, again the other three brothers: Ross, Kevin and Benji disappear in the background, and i know i have to keep in mind these books tend to span over a couple of days and its hard to add in a lot of characters in a limited time but i still would like more of the family because they are an important part. Hayley the foster mom comes out more in this one. Alex and Caroline come again more out into the fro-front which is nice. And damn Josh is still there. I like him because he causes problems but i also hate him because he causes problems.... well yeah i know what? but its how my brain works...strange i know anyways moving on.

the ending. cliffhanger? well no. But i am wondering a lot of things, and i want the next one. So can i have it? please? now? thanks! well i suppose i will just have to stalk and find out when the next one is planning on making an appearance.

I received this book from the author L.H. Cosway, she is actually the first author I received a book from when I started my blog, and I absolutely LOVED the first book in this series! So when I noticed on twitter she had a new book coming out… I was so excited!
In the first book of this series we were introduced to Flo who was a shy girl from a seriously messed up family. In this book Flo has come to a lot of realizations about her life both before and what she wants in the future. However with...more I received this book from the author L.H. Cosway, she is actually the first author I received a book from when I started my blog, and I absolutely LOVED the first book in this series! So when I noticed on twitter she had a new book coming out… I was so excited!
In the first book of this series we were introduced to Flo who was a shy girl from a seriously messed up family. In this book Flo has come to a lot of realizations about her life both before and what she wants in the future. However with the arrival of her junkie father she starts to slide back to old habits.
The difference this time, is that Flo now has a lot of friends in her corner, and she has started to grow a backbone (I mean she must have gained a bit of confidence she did help defeat some crazy witches in the first book) But dealing with her father is not the only thing she has going on this time.
She still has Frank, who is still too good to be true, I am waiting for him to do something really demon-like because well yea too perfect! But I have decided that I kinda sorta like Josh, he is a cutie as well, and he obviously has serious family issues as well… it will be interesting to see if anything happens between Flow and Josh in the future.
I think the part I liked most about this book was the fact that Flo’s world collided with Tegan’s world, now I have not yet read the Ultimate Power Series (seriously? What is WRONG with me!) BUT I do have the first book on my Kindle waiting for me! And I know that I am going to love it because well I love this series, and now that I have met Tegan I want to know her story! So that series has just jumped substantially up my TBR pile!
So in the end this book was FANTASTIC! It is a great mix of real life, fantasy, and a little bit of folklore as well! We learned some interesting little pieces of information in this book, and it makes me so excited to see what happens in the next book which will be released next year.

Stunning mix of Fantasy, Folklore, Paranormal & Romance

The creatures in the woods on the outskirts of the no longer so sleepy town of Chesterport are awake and want out. They’re just waiting for the opportunity to break free and go after the townsfolk. Flo, as if she didn’t have enough questions about her gift and who she is, now learns she’s distantly related to elves. Yes, you heard right. Now we have elves and other strange woodland creatures to deal with as well as angels, demons in teenage boys’ bodies, psychics and empaths. We know it’s only a matter of time before the beings in the forest are let loose, but how exactly will this happen, and what is in store for the town once it does?

Flo’s abusive father is back in her life, always ready with a hard fist or mean put down. Against her better judgement and her boyfriend, Frank’s advice, Flo stays in her now deceased Gran’s house with her Dad. She locks her bedroom door at night to keep herself safe, but it’s not enough to save her from a beating and psychological abuse. I was rather annoyed with Flo at some points in the story. Yes, her father blackmailed her to break up with Frank, but I wanted her to defy him, pack her things and never look back. I guess it’s difficult to break the habits of a lifetime.

The romance between Frank and Flo has cemented into a loving relationship. Like any teenage boy, Frank openly admits to spending 99% of his time thinking about having sex with Flo. She’s not ready, and Frank being the nice guy he is, doesn’t push. The few heated moments between them give us an idea of what’s to come when they do finally consummate their relationship. I think we’ll all be looking forward to seeing what’s in store for Flo and Frank in the next book.

The secondary characters add to the vibrancy of the story. We even get to spend a short time with the vampire Ethan, human, but not all the way human, Tegan (the heroine from Cosway’s other supernatural series, The Ultimate Power) and the spunky witch, Rita when Flo visits Tribane.

Okay, so what else can I say? I loved A Vision of Green. The next book in the series isn’t out until next summer, so I’ll have to re-read all of Cosway’s novels to keep me going until then. (less)

This series is seriously addictive!

Once I got my hands on this book I couldn't wait to get started! I just fell in love with the fantasy world that L.H Cosway created in A Strange Fire, book one in the Florence Vaine Trilogy.
When we first met Flo she was shy, had low self esteem but she was also kind, caring and very unique.
Flo is an empath who can not only see emotions but manipulate the negative emotions away.

A few months ago, I had read the first volume of L.H. Cosway's Florence Vaine series, "A Strange Fire", and had liked it a lot. This second installment doesn't disappoint either.

A few months ago, I had read the first volume of L.H. Cosway's Florence Vaine series, "A Strange Fire", and had liked it a lot. This second installment doesn't disappoint either.

We find here characters from the previous novel: Florence, the girl with the power to see and modify people's auras; Frank, her boyfriend, and his family, most of which share the same particularity of being inhabited by a demon's soul; Josh, the unpleasant school mate; but also Terry, Florence's father, who is much more present in this book. All of their personae were enjoyable in their own rights, and I was glad to see more of them, and in a way that didn't make them lose their appeal compared to the first novel (something that, I've noticed, sometimes happens in second volumes, as if everything had been said about those characters, and there's nothing new left to expect). Flo is both strong and awkward, fighting with the predicaments she's in, yet never giving up. Frank is adorable, always ready to help her, yet also respecting her wishes, even though this may go against his nature. Josh is also interesting, in that he's clearly a negative mirror of Florence: what she could (have) become if she had let herself being completely crushed by her father... yet I could still sense a hope for redemption in him (his behaviour could have been much worse). Even Florence's father is not made of so many shades of black, because for all his dark sides and awful behaviour, there are a few things that explain how he became this way.

In this novel, Florence also seems to take matters in her own hands more readily than in the first story, a sign that her character has been evolving; her decisions may seem unwise at times (why stay with her abusive father, of all things?), but understandable, for they show her will to fight by herself, and not simply run away and let other people protect her. This I find always enjoyable in a character, even though I know it often also brings more problems that it solves.

We also get to learn more about what dwells in the forest near Chesterport, and are offered an insight into another part of the supernatural world, as well as more information about how Florence acquired her powers... and a hint that, much like she learnt how to manipulate and not only see auras, those powers may not be done 'growing' (but is this for in her best interests?). The plot centering about the forest is wrapped up nicely at the end—no frustrating cliffhanger—yet it's also clear that the bigger picture isn't completed yet, and that there is more to come. I'm definitely eager to see how everything will resolve in the next book.(less)

I've just finished this book and now I can get back to my life. I couldn't put it down until I'd finished. This is another great story from L.H. Cosway. I've now read three of her books. Isn't it great when you find a new author whose writing you love and then you discover that she's got more books out that you can read? And they don't disappoint either. L.H. Cosway does it again! I was glued to this book and didn't put it down until it was over. Florence is a great character and as much as you want to shake her and say snap out of it you also want to hug her and tell her everything will be ok. Oh yeah and Hello Teagen!! Awesome from start to finish.

Shelves: can-t-get-enough-of, strong-heroine

Yes!! Managed to finish it in record time, mainly by munching on apple slices, ignoring the clock, listening to a mixture of Taylor Swift, Green Day and Train and gluing myself to my chair. In less than six hours I have finished reading a rollercoaster-ride of a book that had me smiling, laughing, tearing up and face-palming continuously :D

A full review will be up ASAP - hopefully tomorrow! Right now, sleep is called for!!
