WeSa and the Lumber King -
Haints - told from the point of view of Molly
Signatures Of The Dead (Faith Hunter) 4.5 stars - (Skinwalker #0.5) The POV in this is from Jane's witchy friend, Molly, but Jane still plays a big role. I love this series, highly recommended. A group of rogue vamps killed a family near where Molly and her family live, and their cop friend, Brax, has asked her to help him find them using her Earth Witch powers. Good action as usually, but it was nice to see things from...more

A strong 4+ Stars. Four short stories, (3 of them new) just in time to get ready for the release of Death's Rival, due out on October 2. I can't wait! This was a very good set of ss, a treat for the fans; and contained some excerpts from the series.
WeSa and the Lumber King - a very, very, short little story told from the point of view of Jane's 'beast'. Enjoyable story, but glad it was short. I like 'the beast'; but can only take so much of the garbled thought-speak at a time.

I like these collections of shorts set in Jane Yellowrock's world. This is the second one I've read and I think that Hunter is so smart for putting these out just ahead of her next release to bring fans and newbies back up to speed and whet our appetites for Death's Rival.
WeSa and the Lumber King - Ok - while I don't mind the inner commentary of Jane's inner cat in the books I just am not that fond of the stories told entirely from that POV.

Four short stories in in the world of Jane Yellowrock.
In WeSa and the Lumber King, the Beast who lives inside Jane watches as her hunting grounds become prey and Jane watches as Beast gets even. It took a minute for me to figure out that Beast was referring to Jane as WeSa or bobcat. This story takes place in the early times.

In Have Stakes Will Travel, Faith Hunter fills in more of the background of Jane Yellowrock and her strange group of friends. I’ve already praised the series at some length in my review of Cat Tales so instead of repeating myself here, I’m going to jump right into my reactions to the four short stories in this collection.

This is a collection of short stories about Jane and her friends. I bought this for Kindle and really enjoyed most of the stories.
My favorite stories of the bunch were Haints and Cajun with Fangs. Both of these were new to me and very well done. Signatures of the Dead first appeared in the Strange Brew anthology and was the story I read that convinced me to start reading the Jane Yellowrock series.
You can see below for a brief description of each story and what I would rated it.

Have Stakes Will Travel is a terrific anthology set in Jane Yellowrock world and contains three new short stories: "WeSa", "Haints", and "Cajun with Fangs". The fourth story "Signatures of the Dead" was previously published in Strange Brew.
As I've said before, one reason I enjoy anthologies is because you have stories from the point of view from other characters that provide more depth to the overall world. That is certainly the case in Have Stakes Will Travel. The first three stories take place...more

This is a book by Faith Hunter with a few short-stories from Jane Yellowrock universe. I’m not going to write a review for each short-story because I don’t think that there is a point doing this, as I’ve said before. I just want to write a few words for this series that I like so much.
Darker than a usual urban fantasy book, with a lot of action and very well-written characters, Jane Yellowrock series is about a world that everyone has secrets and wants something from the other. These short stori...more

4 short stories set in the Jane Yellowrock series. All but the last take place before the first book in the series and provide more background on Jane.
WeSa - A story of early Jane/Beast where they find men encroaching on Beast's previous hunting territory. The men are destroying the land and Beast isn't happy about it.
Haints - Told in Molly's voice of the first case she and Jane worked together, shortly after they met. Interesting to see Jane from an outside perspective.

I liked the stories themselves, but MAN, the first two were SHORT. Hence the low star rating. The third story was a reprint (but I read it over) and the fourth story was another new, and thankfully, longer one. Wrapping up the collection is a preview for the next book which, since I read this after I read the novel, I didn't need to read.
I bought it on bn.com for $2.99 but it felt like it was definitely shorter than expected. (Especially since the "extended preview" for the full novel takes up a...more

I actually really liked this collected. I wasn't too fond of the We Sa story, but the others made up for it. I'd been wanting to read the story in the Strange Brew collection for awhile, but wasn't looking forward to purchasing that whole collection. I like reading about Jane from Molly's perspective. It shows you a little more about who Jane is. I really enjoyed the vampire-witches Romeo and Juliet esque story set in the bayou. It was fun. It made me look forward to seeing more of what is to co...more
Really good short stories about Molly and Jane. I loved seeing Jane through somebody elses eyes, the way she moves in a catlike way, her vulnerability and protectiveness. Learned much more about Molly's abilities since I haven't had a chance to read the short stories previously published about her. Cajun with Fangs was just plain fun, short, sweet and to the point, Jane at her best with stakes, guns and Bitsa, Derek and his vodka boys. Can't wait for book 5, I know this little compilation was su...more
Nice collection of short stories. The first two told from Molly's POV were hard to read. We get to see Jane through her eyes, but mostly it just kept reminding of the great relationship that Jane had with Molly and her family that she no longer has because of the things that happened at the end of Raven Cursed. I loved seeing the friendship when it was still somewhat newish in the first story and then again in the second one where we get to find out what happened that day Molly and Jane went int...more
We Sa and the Lumber King: This was really short but I ended up skipping it because after reading the first few paragraphs, it just really hurt my head to try to understand Beast's voice. The whole "I/we" every time there was a thought, was irksome enough that I ended up skipping to the next story.

I love this series! I read a lot of urban fiction, usually with vampires. But in books and movies I really appreciate the strength of a female action hero(ine). This series revolves around a woman unlike any other I have ever read. I really appreciate how she changes through the series, and how we get more and more glimpses into her past. The narrative is innovative and interesting. I am really looking forward to the next book, number 6, Blood Trade. Soon!
4 short, 3 new. A nice addition to the series. One of the shorts is from Beast's POV from the hunger times. The writing was a little disjointed but it was very short and conveyed beasts' thinking adequately.
Two of the shorts were from Molly's perspective and it was nice to get to know her better. I think it will fatten the Jane stories for me.
The last short was from Jane's POV, occurring between books 4 & 5. It's nice to see Jane find another way.

I definitely recommend reading this book! I do love shorts to fill out gaps left in times in past or between novels. This collection does both of these things and I especially enjoyed getting to know Molly better. Although it did make me feel even more for Jane that this beautiful friendship is no longer.
Ms Hunter please give Jane some long term love or friendship she can trust and rely on, she so deserves it.

This was a nice collection of short stories. It was interesting seeing inside Molly's head and also, one of the short stories tells about the Mine incident which has been referred to before, but not told in depth. All in all, it is a good read and there is an exerpt from Death's Rival, as well. Faith Hunter has built a good world and some complex and interesting characters who you can really sink your teeth into.
This was good. It filled in some of the blanks and allowed us to know a bit more about some of the characters. I don't think the last story was necessary, but it may have foresight into the next book. I guess I will find out soon enough. I love Jane Yellowrock - she is an ass kickin' chick! I can't get enough of her. Now on to Death's Rival!
