I love, love, love C.A. Kunz and everything that is them so when I heard about The Modified I was SUPER excited because it just sounded like my kind of book. The Modified exceeded any kind of expectations I had for it! I really, really, truly loved it!

Even though the romance was a part of why I liked it (because it always is), The Modified had so much more to offer. My favorite thing was the world development. I really, really, truly loved it!

Even though the romance was a part of why I liked it (because it always is), The Modified had so much more to offer. My favorite thing was the world development. The way this dystopian world was described I was able to completely submerge myself in it. I love books that I can completely get lost in and this was definitely one of them. I also thought the unfolding of information and mystery was done perfectly. It kept my attention the whole time and I was never able to completely anticipate what was around the corner!

Landon....must I say more than his name? It alone is swoon worthy. :D Okay just kidding I will tell you why you should swoon at the mention of his name. Well first of all he is one of the sweetest book boyfriends I've ever had. He is just perfect for Kenley. They find each other in such tragedy where happiness shouldn't be a possibility, but now they have the happiness because they have someone to lean on. Now for some quotes from the book so you can swoon a little too.

"my gaze fixes on a single guy. My heart skips a beat. He’s unlike any guy I’ve ever seen. I mean, there have been guys I’ve had crushes on back home, but there’s something so different about him. His sun-kissed skin and beautiful chestnut brown hair takes my breath away. I never thought I’d feel this way, especially not while in my current situation." (page 42)

"Our eyes meet and he mouths good morning. I mouth it back to him and smile shyly. Could he get any cuter? I mean, seriously. He has to have some major flaw, I tell myself." (page 91)

Okay so we now that you have gotten a taste of Landon, I thought I would talk a little bit about the supporting characters that I absolutely love. I know I've said this before, but one of my favorite things about C.A. Kunz's writing in general is the complexity of the supporting characters. I always fall in love with them almost as much as I do the main characters. Joey, Sam, and Gailieo were my favorites in this book. Joey has been with Kenley all her life and he is basically family. Their relationship is very meaningful and I loved watching their support for each other as they became soldiers. Sam is that sassy girl that everyone can't help to fall in love with. She says what's on her mind and most of the time it's freakin' hilarious. And Galileo...well he isn't exactly human but he grows as a character so much and is Kenley's support when she is alone. Here are some quotes to give you a little taste of Joey and Sam.

“Just so you know, if we die...I’m going to be really pissed at you,” Joey whispers. (page 15)

“Uh-oh, boy trouble three o’clock,” Sam whispers at me jokingly from across the table. “Shut up,” I reply playfully. “It’s not like that.” She laughs. “Okay, Grayson. Whatever you say.” (page 71) ~Sam

If you're ready to get completely lost in a world that you'll fall in love with, The Modified is for you. Any dystopian, sci-fi, romance lover should read The Modified because I'm sure it will rock your socks off like it did mine!(less)

Another great addition to add to your Ya bookshelf. Adam and Carol have done a wonderful job of creating this world of The Modified.

Its different - unique, captivating and certainly will have you reading till the end , to find out all about The Modified . Its a perfect blend of Dystopian and Science fiction with a little romance for the all the romantics at heart. Lots of action and even a few witty comments thrown in to give the reader a laugh or two.

I was truly excited to read this book. I am a huge fan of the Childe Series by C.A. Kunz and love their talent for storytelling, so of course I had to give this book a try.

When CA Kunz first published The Childe series, I was surprised and The Modified is a brilliant start for the new The Biotics series! The Modified is well-written, the dystopian settings are uniquely combined with science fiction and romance. The Modified is a page-turner and it captures your attention from the very first page.

The Modified is well-written, the dystopian settings are uniquely combined with science fiction and romance. The Modified is a page-turner and it captures your attention from the very first page.

Plot:

Meet Kenley, a seventeen years old elite soldier joining the Magnus Academy and preparing for the fight with the Bringers. The Bringers is unknown alien race which has been trying to take over Earth. At the Magnus Academy Kenley meets Landon who is the son of a legendary hero. When Kenley and Landon are seeing each other, sparks are flying! Their relationship is challenged by the surrounding circumstances. Kenley knows how important her training is for her and so does Landon. But neither of them can hide their feelings for each other.

I think the world CA Kunz created was unique. I truly enjoyed the dystopian world and especially that the world was threatened by the alien race. I am not usually very big fan of science fiction, but it was fascinating. The training facility and the idea of modification of people was engrossing.

Characters:

The authors did again a wonderful work with characters. Both the main characters and the supportive characters were strong, interesting and with lot of different stories to tell. They were colorful and vivid. The dialogue had an important role to play and it was sparkling! The dialogues between the characters was flowing naturally, it was fun to read and very entertaining.

Kenley and Landon and their growing relationship was my favorite part of the story. Kenley was fun to read, she was strong, stubborn and a real kick-butt heroine. Landon was adorable! You can't help but like him. He is one of the most adorable young adult male protagonists what I have read so far. He is a guy who would be very easy to fall for.

Generally:

If you want to read a new series which will spell you and keep you hostage and not letting you go, this is a book for you!

HOLY MODIFIED!

Where to start with this review. OMG This mother and son duo has done it again. I can't even fully explain what happened in this book without thinking back to what I just read. The Modified is something straight off of SYFY and I am so glad I was able to read it.

I felt that a girl who wanted to join the army to end a war against aliens where her brother was killed would prove to be exciting and interesting. I won this book from the fantastic author, Tiffany King. If you don't know her work, then you need to go to her Amazon page RIGHT NOW! Anyway, she had read this book and did a giveaway. I had the pleasure of getting to know Carol and Adam Kunz at the RT Booklovers Convention in Kansas City in early May. When the huge box of books that I received at the convention arrived at my house, I knew the first one I wanted to pick up was The Modified, in part because I wanted to read my friends' book, but even more so because I was intrigued by the dystopian storyline. When we first meet Kenley, she has just been drafted into the Allied Federation. Kenley, along with her best friend Joey, get put into a special program with select others from around the world that will all be modified to help give them special powers. It is the hopes of the Allied Federation that these modified teens will be the key to defeating The Bringers, an alien kind that is in a war with earth.

Kenley was a fantastic main character! I loved how Kenley was so incredibly sweet. Even though life has not been easy on her and it seems to get harder and harder as the book goes on, she keeps that incredible goodness to her. She is always looking out for the people she cares about and I find that an incredible quality for characters to have. On top of her kindness, Kenley is also so very brave. The very first chance she has to fight against The Bringers, the very beings that took her brother away from her, she jumps on it no questions asked. She just takes every situation that’s thrown at her and she fights through it like a true soldier.

The friends that Kenley makes throughout the book are all equally awesome in their own right. Joey is a true best friend for Kenley. She says a few times throughout the book that he is her rock and that couldn’t be truer. He is always there for giving her advice, strength, or encouragement whenever she needs it most. Galileo was another friend that stood out to me! He may be a robot but I am fully convinced that he developed a strong sense of friendship towards Kenley. His confusion over human terms and his robot talk added quite a bit of entertainment and humor to the story.

And then there was Landon. Landon is the love interest in this story and my, he was so sweet! He seemed like the male version of Kenley. Perhaps a bit more confident and obviously less of a girl but his good-naturedness and determination to keep Kenley and his friends safe was definitely very similar to our main character. Even though I loved Kenley and I loved Landon, there was definitely something I found to be a bit off about their relationship. I can’t say it was insta-love because really, their relationship seemed to move a nice pace but I don’t know…it was just different. Regardless, I thought the two of them together were pretty cute.

Now on to the plot and the action! I loved the whole idea behind this story! Like I said earlier, it was a great mix between Dystopian with the whole world being in a war, a draft requiring all teens to fight for earth’s freedom, etc. but there was also that super cool scientific aspect to it with the space travel and DNA modification. The idea was truly unique and I thought it was executed really well.

The action in this book definitely kept me on my toes! I loved discovering the powers of the characters while they were learning them too! Seeing them develop these powers and push their physical and mental boundaries to the very limit was so neat. Every time the characters were forced to use their powers I got incredibly excited to see just what they could do. Also C.A. Kunz adds so much suspense/mystery/action to the last 80 (e-book) pages and holy wow! I didn’t see half of that coming and it made me so excited for the next book in this series.

C.A. Kunz has created another story I am so excited to continue reading! I loved seeing a sweet, brave girl fight her way through so many difficulties and proving she can really kick butt throughout it all. The mix of great characters, an incredibly unique and well executed storyline, and the multiple aspects that will keep you reading and waiting for the next book, is exactly what makes The Modified a great read!(less)

I thought the pace of this book was going to be a little different. We spent over 60% in cutesy space camp. There's a draft and Kenley is picked for a special assignment with other 17 year olds, to fight against the Bringers (of Death). They all get modified and go through brief training in 3 categories: Fortification, Strike and Tactical. Along the way Kenley meets up with Landon, they have a flat falling love interest. That was amazing!!! The perfect combination of dystopian and sci-fi, with a smoldering romance thrown in. I was intrigued from the very beginning! These young people being forced to fight as soldiers in a war to save the planet, but then they are Modified; turned into super-soldiers with fascinating new powers! I loved this book! I couldn't put it down. The technological advances mentioned in the book are amazing! Makes me want to have a Galileo of my very own. I loved the story and how the friends came together. Without giving anything away, the story is great, the friendships and relationships are great. There's action, love, betrayal. Amazing!

it had all the right ideas and bits to be compelling... the execution was just not that great and it felt a bit deflated. although different it is in a similar vein as The Hunger Games but did not quit do it for me.

A epic romance excites this tale in space. Told in a future world we could yet run into. To fight off the bad dudes we need powers...or it may just be impossible. It was free and I got what I paid for. Not well written and very weak plot and character development. In fact, virtually no plot at all. Even in a multivolume series, each volume should be a full story with a full plot that closes at a decent conclusion. This does none of that, and the worst was that it ends in the middle of nowhere. Avoid this book.
