I was very excited about reading Belinda’s new book! Firstly, I just have to say that the cover is BEAUTIFUL! I spent ages staring at it and even my fiancé who doesn’t comment much on the books I read said “That one’s colourful!” which between you and me, we should take as a seal of approval! I was also very much looking forward to reading this because I absolutely LOVE Christmas books!

I was also very much looking forward to reading this because I absolutely LOVE Christmas books!

In Winter Wonderland, Krista, a travel journalist, goes to Quebec to report on the Winter Carnival and what it has to offer, including spending time in the famous and enchanting ice hotel. Krista is soon taken in by the atmosphere, leading to many adventures, and meeting Jacques, a mysterious yet handsome man…

What can I say? Winter Wonderland was a wonderful read! From the first page I was drawn into Belinda’s world and taken on a journey full of sparkle, adventure and fun! I was enjoying the book so much that I never wanted to put it down! It got to the point where I was carrying it in my handbag with me, so I could retrieve it at every moment possible to read a few more glorious pages!

The characters are very well-written. Krista was instantly likeable, I warmed to her straight away. I loved her personality and I enjoyed reading about her adventures and experiences. Jacques was brilliantly written! As soon as he entered he had an air of mystery around him, and I was hooked! I instantly wanted to know more about Jacques, and I admit he was the reason I was staying up late at night rushing through the chapters! The romance in the book was splendid, I had a warm feeling in my heart when reading Winter Wonderland and even after I had finished the story!

Belinda has done a fantastic job with the descriptions in the book. The setting of Quebec was fascinating and I’m sure that I’m sure I’m not the only one, who having finished the book, added it to my list of places to visit! Throughout the book I felt as though I was transported right into the middle of the scenes, the story really came to life and I think it shows how talented Belinda Jones is.

Winter Wonderland is a perfect book for the Christmas season – Put on a jumper, curl up on the sofa with some chocolate and enjoy escaping into this beautiful story! A truly captivating read!(less)

I am a huge Belinda Jones fan and was extremely pleased when I received an early copy of her new release (out early November 2012 in the UK) Winter Wonderland. The front cover is slightly different to her usual style but certainly no less appealing. The synopsis of this book explains that travel journalist Krista is attending the Winter Carnival in Quebec, Canada. With the temperature plummeting, she discovers that there is a lot more to this part of the world than snow.

With the temperature plummeting, she discovers that there is a lot more to this part of the world than snow.

I actually liked the fact that the synopsis was pretty short and sweet and as I tucked into the book I was looking forward to finding out more. The first thing I was surprised about was the intro to the book. We see the main character Krista wakes up in the Ice Hotel. This may sound like a strange point, but part of the attraction of Belinda’s books for me is the build up to the travels around the world. With the intro being already at the location, it kind of threw me. Undeterred I carried on as I got to know Krista and what brought her to Canada.

I have to be honest and say that at a quarter of the way through I just couldn’t connect with Krista. Her escapades start very early in the book, yet I just felt like it was all a little bit di-jointed. At around the halfway mark I started to warm up to Krista and the other eclectic characters. One thing that Belinda Jones certainly does well is describing the places in such detail that you begin to wonder whether you can squeeze a quick holiday in to your own life. The magical was she described the areas was as usual absolutely spot on.

For me though, this was where it stopped. The story itself was okay and at three quarters of the way through I was a lot more interested in what was happening to other characters in the book such as the very mysterious Jacques who has very dark skeletons in his closet. There are certain elements of this book that were pure Jones, such as the husky riding and the very laughable attempts Krista makes trying to ride the Husky Sleds. Aside from that there was definitely something missing for me.

I am still an ardent Jones fan and will always eagerly await her new releases. However, I just don’t think I connected well enough with the characters in this book, and therefore thought it wasn’t as good as some of her other books. On the plus side, if anybody is considering visiting Quebec, just read this book and I guarantee you will finish it and be down the travel agents within a matter of hours.

This was so fabulous!! I loved every second of it!

It's got a Travelogue feel to it and that's one of the pluses for me. Krista runs a travel itinerary website and visits the destinations so she can deliver a first class low-down for the prospective vacationers. She's been unlucky in love and is mending a broken heart so she wouldn't say no to the chance of a holiday romance to cheer her spirits, if it presents itself. Loved it!!!

It was only when I'd finished reading it that I read who it was by, the eagerness to read a wintery book as soon as it was downloaded onto my kindle kind of took over me! I wasn't surprised when it clicked, as I love Belinda's other books (hence pre-ordering this one).

I was really intrigued as to where the characters were going, and how the story was going to involved them!

Belinda Jones is a Chick Lit stalwart. Winter Wonderland is her 11th novel and there’s only a couple of her books I haven’t read, and none I haven’t enjoyed. I do, personally, feel like her last couple of books have been a bit below par – Living La Vida Loca had no romance to speak of, sadly and I found California Dreamers to be a novel I couldn’t engage with properly. I just felt there was something missing and that’s an awful feeling when it’s an author you normally really love. So I was wary when I received my copy of Winter Wonderland. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a novel I enjoyed, I was worried I’d find it wanting. But I couldn’t not read it. It’s Belinda Jones, people. Plus it’s utterly stunning looking, with a pale blue/green background color and a winter wonderland shown inside a bauble. Stunning.

Winter Wonderland surprised me. It took me about 100 pages to get into it (which when compared to how short it is – 300 pages) is probably quite a while, but once I got into it, I got into it. It worked for me and I found myself fully absorbed in Krista’s adventures in the Winter Wonderland that is Quebec. I’m not a big traveller – I can count the countries I’ve been to on one hand and still have fingers left (Florida, Spain, England). I do, however, have dreams of travelling. I want to go to New York, to Australia, to Hawaii, but I’ve never thought as Canada as a place I’d like to visit. Why would I, when America is right there? That’s very ignorant me, I’m sure, but it just never really appealed. Let me tell you right here, right now, though, that I would LOVE to go to Canada. Love to visit Quebec’s Winter Carnival, love to see Montreal and all it has to offer. Belinda Jones can sell destinations like no one I know. And I’m sure that everyone who reads Winter Wonderland will also want to visit Canada. Canada rocks, it seems, and we’ve all clearly been missing out.

That’s what I’ve always loved about Belinda’s books, is the travelling. She’s the most accomplished travel writer, ever. But what of the actual story, which sadly isn’t just about how fabulous Canada is! Our main character is Krista, who after a painful split that’s she’s still suffering from, is hoping for a bit of a break from all that stuff and arrives in Canada raring to go. Even risking freezing to death, if it means the readers of her website Va-Va-Vacation! can have a stressfree a holiday as possible. What she doesn’t bank on, is a photographer jumping her her first night there, in an ice bed no less. She finds herself even more confused when she meets the mysterious Jacques and finds herself strangely attracted to him and his beautiful husky dogs. I liked the plot of the novel very much. I liked Krista and I liked the burdgeoning friendship with Jacques. Mostly, though, I just enjoyed the Carnival and I liked seeing it from Krista’s perspective. She gets herself in lots of scrapes, especially with the strange and enticing Mal.

I thoroughly recommend Winter Wonderland. It’s my favourite of Belinda’s last three novels, of that there’s no doubt. I was captivated by Canada, by Quebec, by the Carnival. I want to go to Canada and meet all the lovely Canadian people. I’d quite like to find my own Jacques, as well, to be fair. I would have liked to have found out exactly who the strange Mal was. He spent a lot of time terrorising Krista, and I sort of liked waiting for him to pop up again, and I would have just liked to know, out of curiosity, exactly who he was. I thought Annique, Krista’s tour guide was awesome and it makes such a change that although Annique was utterly beautiful and miles skinnier than Krista, that that storyline didn’t go down that path, and that actually Annique was lovely and she and Krista got on so well. I can’t wait for Belinda’s next book especially as The Travelling Tea Shop is going to be featuring Laurie as the main character – Krista’s best friend! So I’m hoping for an update on Krista’s life or even better, for Krista to be in it! Winter Wonderland is definitely a book you want to be curling up with because Belinda is back on track, folks, and it’s wonderful.(less)

You honestly can’t fault this author for her magical descriptions. The way she writes about Quebec’s Winter Carnival, you would think you were entering Disney World on Ice. Seriously it sounds stunning and I only wish it could be that magical in real life. Not that I would know personally, but I have read it isn’t as stunning, which is a real shame. Perhaps Belinda Jones should be in charge of planning and development for their next event.

You honestly can’t fault this author for her magical descriptions. The way she writes about Quebec’s Winter Carnival, you would think you were entering Disney World on Ice. Straight away, you find yourself sitting in a room made of ice with Krista and you can almost feel the chill yourself. You find yourself reaching for your hot water bottle and hoping you have seen the last of the snow.

As I mentioned earlier, the descriptions are just stunning. The author knows how to bring a place alive and you are given a detailed analysis of what the city is like. You can tell the author knows her stuff. Her characters are quirky, enigmatic and extremely entertaining. Many a page, I was caught by a fit of giggles. Krista, the main character is slightly annoying in her need to sort out everyone’s problems. Normally that wouldn’t bother me but she had known these people barely a week. I would have told her to keep her nose out personally.

I learnt so much about Cirque De Soleil. I hadn’t realised that they had originated from Quebec. The information provided about the company was truly fascinating, especially the charity work they have fulfilled so far.

Where the descriptions and characters are brilliant, unfortunately the plot lets the story down. The second half of the book fell flat for me and didn’t really have anything of interest going on it. I actually struggled to finish it. Relationships were easily mended, no real conflict to entice you in and the main character had fallen in love within in days. Everything appeared rushed and tied up far too nicely by the end and I felt unsatisfied with how things had progressed. I honestly feel the author got so wrapped up in the detail of the setting, she lost sight of what was actually happening to the characters.

Such a promising start, ruined by a disappointing end. (less)

Enjoyed this book very much. Many people have commented on the fact this is a bit of a travelogue novel and I actually really liked this about the book. The book is set around Quebec and Montreal and though it is almost twenty years since I visited these places the book brought these cities 'back to life' for me along with many fond memories of travelling in Canada (one of my favourite places in the world).

On the very first page we realize that we are in Quebec, Canada in, well…an ice castle. This story follows Krista who is a travel writer on her newest excursion to a real winter wonderland, and we are her lucky guests.

The setting of this book was enough to fascinate me. We are literally in a world full of sparkles, ice beds, and a ton of snow. However, reading the story and the setting did make me really cold. I kept wondering, how in the heck do you sleep on an ice bed? I am going to share some beautiful pictures below that Belinda used for her inspiration, and to my understanding she actually went there. I think this is so awesome and only make the story that much more real. This story is based on an actual place, and the descriptions that Belinda includes are almost hypnotic. I honestly would have to put the book down and try to imagine the scene that had just been described to me.

Krista was such a fun-loving character and I would not have chosen anyone else to walk me through this story. She is kind of quirky in a way, but very energetic. Not to mention she has just had her heartbroken, well…not really broken. She has just gotten out of a long-term relationship that was destined to fail way before she cared to admit it. But, of course, now she is vulnerable and really down on herself, like most women are and is reluctant to step back on the dating scene. This is where her best friend, Laurie, comes into play. I loved Laurie just as much as I loved Krista. She was spunky and had a real knack for always making Krista feel better. To my understanding, Belinda is working on telling Laurie’s story next!! I am so excited for this.

The romantic aspect of this book was cute and sweet and a little mysterious. What I loved most about it was that our male love interest, Jacques, has a secret and a past that sometimes make him seem unapproachable to Krista. The romance was not overdone in this book; however, I sometimes found myself wanting a little more. The chilly setting would have been the perfect place for it. But, the entire story was well done and I am anxiously awaiting whatever comes next for Belinda Jones!!

Straight away I have to say what an absolutely freaking amazing fantastic read! When I got sent a copy I just couldn't wait to snuggle up and read this, Iv loved all of Belinda Jones' books, best book I loved was "Out of the blue", I just loved that the book was set in Greece, However this book just topped it completely!
Another Christmas book out this year, definitely to get you in the festive, okay maybe it doesn't have the chesnuts roasting in the fire and christmas tree decorated and all that but It still gets you in the wintry cold feeling and makes you wanna snuggle up reading this.

Belinda had obviously put plenty of research in to this book and I wasn't disappointed, the writing just flowed so easily and I was instantly hooked and I even felt I was in the book myself.
I loved all the characters Krista,Laurie,Giles,Annique,Sebastian,Jacques, i thought they all connected together nicely. I loved the friendship between Krista and Laurie, their friendship reminded me of me and my best friend Kaylie.
The lovely Krista has a deep secret but when she meets Jacques he also has a deep secret too and when they both grow close they find they both have the same sort of secret and It was sweet when we did find out her secret in the book, it makes you warm up to her a lot more. I loved the ending of the story I alot, I am a hopeless romantic so it was beautiful hehe!
I also loved the chemistry between Krista and the oh so sexy and wonderful Jacques....Oooohhh swooon! The person who fitted the lovely description of Jacques was indeed the wonderful Ian somerhalder..he would be my perfect Jacques anyday tehe ;)

I loved that Belinda chose Quebec and Montreal for the places in Winter Wonderland, It was certainly a fantastic choice! She made the story have wonderful pointers and facts about the places but make it into such a fantastic read that you wish to book yourself a flight right away! It's definitely a choice to put on my bucket list of places to go hehe! I want to enjoy a nice stay in a ice cold bed and try the wonderful poutine...Yummy!

One of my all time giggles with this book was the husky dog sledding...I will say nothing more hehe! I just really enjoyed this book so much, the chapters flowed so easy and with the mix of characters was still able to follow the story lots. Grab a copy of this book straight away hehe!

I am a big fan of Christmas so other than my favourite authors turning up on Christmas day to play silly games and eat my Christmas dinner surely the next best thing is when one of your favourite authors release a Christmassy book!

Wow..... Although we don’t have the festive roast cooking or Santa popping down the chimney this book still brings the perfect backdrop, I am talking the cold chill with our friend snow, cute fluffy dogs pulling sledges..... oh I am in my element!
How does this author manage to wrap you up in the setting so much so that you feel like you have been to the location! Belinda Jones is back in full swing this year, she needs to be on commission because her beautiful and informative writing skill has sparked an interest in me to visit Quebec, now that is saying something for me because I only do Summer holidays!

The author also manages to give you a tour of Quebec and gives you a number of facts and many must see sights but all of this is weaved perfectly into a great storyline. I loved each and every character in this book, there were more than our fair share of tasty men to choose from. Our Heroine Krista took a little time to warm to but as the story progressed her character softened and became an enjoyable character to read and towards the end of the book when you find out her secret she becomes even more loveable. The ending was rather predictable to me but this didn't ruin it for me it was great to watch what you had a feeling was going to happen unfold. I am a hopeless romantic so this book was perfection for me with the gentle romance blossoming in this picturesque scene.

I am sure this book will be a hit this Christmas my one and only negative about this book is that I wasn't invited along to help with the research that Belinda clearly undertook for this book!(less)

Never knew why but now, the hunt is definitely on for all of them. You know why? Because I loved Winter Wonderland and it proves what a talented writer Belinda is! Everything was amazing in WW, it was such a lovely read as it was the perfect getaway!

Winter Wonderland follows Krista, a travel writer, who finds herself writing about Quebec, the French-speaking city of Canada! Writing about the Winter Carnival held in the sparkly, snowy Quebec, she gets on a ride of her lifetime, meeting the most amazing people and get this: freezes her bum off on a bed made out of a block of ice! How wild is that? Blimey. I wish I could have jumped into the book, discovering Canada alongside Krista and Annique and Wolf Man. Gosh, I loved her best friend, Laurie! Such a warm, supportive friend, how I wish she was featured more in the book! But rest assured, Belinda's next book, The Travelling Tea Shop will have Laurie as the leading lady!

What's not to love? The snowy, glittering city of Quebec, in contrast to the mushy, plush blanket of snow of the mountains. The wonderful city of Quebec and the lovely, exciting activities you can do when you're there! Wow. Dog-sledding, ice-skating, jumping on the "Tornado", now that was absolutely mortifying!

But beware: despite its pretty, inviting cover, soft shades of blue to get you into the Christmas spirit, the story has a different side. It's not just your average chick lit, where the heroine falls in love and lives happily ever after. No, it deals with a personal thing Krista has to endure and in the process, she finds herself again. And slowly finds her heart being pulled at Wolf Man's direction where he too had a bad experience in life. Not wanting to give away and all that, just so you could read all about it!

All in all, it's a fabulous, escapist of a book, where you could snuggle in bed, with a cup of your favourite warm beverage, and read on and on about the adventure of Krista in Quebec, the magical snow kingdom in Canada. Get that, me trying to sound all creative with words. Pfft. Anyhow, I really enjoyed it, it was a pleasure to read it. Not too heavy on the other darker side of the story, while balanced perfectly with the fun and stomach-plunging excitement of some parts of the story. Perfect for readers who enjoy Lindsey Kelk and Jane Costello's books! I would like to thank Hodder for sending me a copy.

After the many novels set in a warmer climate, it was a wonderful change to have this novel set in snowy Canada.
As always, I loved the descriptions, the well-researched information provided on the location, and I definitely felt like I wanted to go hug a few huskies once I was finished with the book.

There isn't much else to say really. I love the recipe! Travel information, fantastic landscapes, interesting characters, love interests (some with a twist) and a crazy snowman.

First off, this is a very cliché chick lit book. It's not a romance novel of the sexy variety, but there is romance, and a little bit of mystery. When I first started it, I was really unimpressed. I found the narrative style irritating... a self-obsessed, whiny bimbo.

Belinda Jones is great - she really is, and I'm not just saying that because I have known and loved her all my life. Times is hard for a writer, and someone as talented as Belinda is due for some recognition. Funny, touching and love filled, this book is a perfect Christmas present. Do us all a huge favour - invest and find a fun escape.

This started off slowly but built up into what was a really good book. Characters were believable and it makes you want to visit Quebec's winter carnival to experience it for yourself. Really enjoyed this and will be picking up more Belinda Jones books.
