I had a lot of mixed feeling with Vaempires: Revolution: Zombies Rising. On one hand I really enjoyed the story and especially getting to know a lot more about the secondary characters Ray and Linq. This book was mainly about them as is written from there POV. The reader gets to find out what happened to both Ray's and Linq's family after the war broke out. I had a lot of mixed feeling with Vaempires: Revolution: Zombies Rising. On one hand I really enjoyed the story and especially getting to know a lot more about the secondary characters Ray and Linq. This book was mainly about them as is written from there POV. The reader gets to find out what happened to both Ray's and Linq's family after the war broke out. In this story both teens are making their way back to Daniel and Cassie. Earlier Cassie left Linq to go back herself and find her true love Daniel but runs into someone from her past. This surely puts a damper on her plans. Soon after Cassie left, Linq and Ray decide to go after her in hopes to also be able to find Daniel, Dead or Alive. Both hoping they will not be to late. Of course both teens run into trouble and must fight their way ahead. One thing neither Ray or Linq were expecting to see or have to fight are the undead, undead. Yeah, makes no sense right? Zombie Vaempires, oh boy! Something or someone is raising these ungodly creatures from the dead. Ray and Linq will do everything they kill these zombies, again and find there way to Daniel before it's to late.

The Good and the Bad (not so good!)

Good: I really loved that the story was focused on the secondary characters Ray and Linq. I enjoyed learning about there lives and emotions. The fighting scenes where amazing and gory. The author does a really nice job at making the reader feel like they are right there fighting along with the characters. Thomas Winship writing is very distinguished and easy to read. There is never a dull moment in this book and left me wanting more.

Bad: TOO SHORT! Although the story was great the book itself could have been longer. It left me wanting more and with the feeling of being empty towards the end. Also, there were parts in the book that just make me say "Ewwww". I have never been bothered by a scary or gory novel, this one really turned my stomach.

All in all I am very happy that I was able to read The Evolutionary War series. These books really took me by surprise. They all were a lot better than I first though they would be. I will definitely be reading the next installment. (less)

This book is the second book in the Evolutionary War series between two warring species; the Vampires and the mutated Vaempire’s. This book stayed faithful to the first starting and ending with action, action, and more action. This book was definitely more hack and slash than usual and I felt the story line was muted because of the constant fight scenes with the boys, who again, are just too young even if vampire, to maintain a strong heroic visual for me. However, I do love me some mindless hack and slash, blow flowing action sequences at times as a nice refresher to many of the female writers who often soften the scenes. I would in fact compare Winship’s usage of action to the writings of Laurell K. Hamilton, a writer who doesn’t hold back, who writes exactly what she is feeling, and knows that her typical readers will love it.

In book 2, Vielyn, leader of the Vaempires is out to destroy the world and is searching for atomic weapons to do so. The city has all but become a ghost town as the vampires flee for safety and most of their loved ones have been slain. Linq and Ray are on a mission to reach Cassandra and Daniel at the Castle before it is too late and something bad happens to her also. The story thickens as they enter one of the Castle yards and a faint heart beat can be heard. Upon further investigation the boys notice it belongs to a frail girl. They debate over killing her then get distracted. Before they know it all hell breaks loose again and all of the dead Vaempires that were just lying cold at their feet are being reanimated into zombies. With Ray still weakened from an earlier fight and all of the synth blood depleted, will the boys make it to the Princess and Daniel before it’s too late?

While I thought this book was even better than the first, I felt the ending left me hanging and I was expecting more. And why would Cassandra return to her room for what seems like hours, when she knows that Vielyn is looking for her? We know from the first book she is not stupid, so this turn of sequence shocked me. I highly recommend if you are going to read the first book to just go ahead and pick up this book also as you really won’t be let down at all.(less)

When the author told me the book was finished, I was quivering with excitement, because that's how much Thomas Winship is good at writing and how amazing his series is. I started reading the book as soon as I received it and in a matter of hours I was running out of pages, until I started to realize I just needed to be patient and wait for the next instalment... As you know I am always totally honest in my reviews so here goes, I truly did not like the cover initially, my reaction was Yuuuuck! and I really didn't care for it at all wondering what on earth it was. I received a free copy of this book from Thomas Winship as I had reviewed his two other titles in this series and really enjoyed those.
As you know I am always totally honest in my reviews so here goes, I truly did not like the cover initially, my reaction was Yuuuuck! and I really didn't care for it at all wondering what on earth it was. Then once I read the book, I realised it was a representation on the Vaempire/Zombie eyes. Once the horrible eye cover made sense it wasn't as horrible (if that makes sense) and I ended up quite liking the image on the cover.
At the very beginning of this book is what I would call a recap chapter in that it gives you a concise run down on Vaempires Christmas and Vaempires Revolution, so it really jogs your memory if you need it. Personally I didn't need it as I had enjoyed and remembered the books clearly. Having said that I think it is a great idea and wish other authors did the same in their book series. Once the recap is over you kind of back track in the story a little and we see things and events from Linq and Ray's point of view. Then there story catches up to where we left the "events" and the stories become as one. We follow Linq and Ray whilst they fight their way to try and find Daniel and Princess Cassandra. we also have chapters from Princess Cassandra's point of view and her interactions with the newly turned and self appointed leader of the Vaempires, Vielyn. As we know Vielyn used to be friends with Linq, Ray and Daniel when he was a Vampire , but since he evolved into a Vaempire he has totally changed and only feels animosity towards his former friends.
Ray and Linq eventually find Daniel but they have yet to find and maybe "rescue" Princess Cassandra. I won't actually go any further into the plot as I want you all to discover for yourselves.
The book ends with yet more cliff hangers than you had at the start of the book, which is of course great as it makes you impatient for the next book!
So to sum up this book has friendship and love, sacrifice, lots of action, fighting, drama and blood and guts too. The only downside of the book I wanted even more, I didn't want it to end.
So did I enjoy the book? Yes, Would I recommend? Yes, though this one does have a little more blood and guts to it. Do I want to read more? Definitely! Please. Would I read other books by Thomas Winship? Oh Yes.(less)

Ok, this is going to be a very long review, composed by just three letters: WTF??? Seriously, Mr Winship, what the hell! I think I've never been more anxious in my life than with reading this book. Ok, Vaempires Revolution ended in a kinda shocking way, but this goes beyond that.

Sorry this review was so long in coming. I wanted to finish reading the second book before commenting because I wanted to get a handle on how this series is playing out. So Thomas Winship knows how to write! This series is so not my typical read. First of all, it has a bunch of gore, but I don't seem to mind because he's written his characters so well, I need to make sure they don't get eaten, blown up, turned into crazy zombies, or a number of other unsavory things.

Cassie is locked in an underground chamber by Daniel to keep her safe and I love how she orders Linq to open the door to let her out. While Cassie's only makes abriefapperence in Vaempires: Zombie Risingshe certainly makes sure its one that stay firmly in your mind.
Linq and ray are my two favourite characters, they are an amazing fighting team that are three for each other all the time. They have someseriousskills and some amazing weaponry and a great sense of comic timing.

Winship has turned brutality and gore into an art form.

I appreciate the matter-of-fact way the vampire teens describe the havoc around them (opposed to gore for shock value.) They sound shell-shocked, which comes across realistic enough to give me the chills.

Linq and Ray are instantly likeable. I was especially happy to be reunited with Cassie. Let me just say, Cassandra kicks ass!

I feel like I’m inside a movie when I’m reading Vaempires.

What can I say? Winship delivers again! This one is action packed and a cool look at the end of Vaempires: Revolution from a different POV.

Ray and Linq are great characters. Its so nice to get to know their part of the story.

I love Cassie. She's the kind of girl I love to read about.

The latest installment in the Vaempires series doesn't disappoint. Following Linq and Ray through the decimated city of Orion, this book happens almost simultaneously with the events in Vaempires: Revolution. The different perspective is fresh, and Linq's POV engaged me much more than Daniel's, the hero of the first two books in this action-packed series.

So, I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED!!! This is what I guess you would call as Vaempires 1.5, as it’s a short story to tie in, after the end of book 1, but it’s from Linq and Ray’s side of things. They are trying desperately to reach Daniel and Cassie who are at the Castle of the King. As Cassie being the princess, she is high in demand by the bad guys. This is the third book from the Vaempires series, and it doesn't disappoint. This author does well with action. And what better way to show that than with a zombie uprising. If you're looking for something new out of the vampire genre, then look no further. Mutated vampires that just keep going... what else is there to say?
