I want to say that this book is unique, but I've already read (and disliked) The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and An Abundance of Katherines. And I have to say, although I didn't like either that much, they were better than Never Odd or Even, which felt like a combination of the two.

I picked this up from my library purely because it was short and I wanted something light, quick, and easy to read. This ticked all of those boxes, but it failed to tick the most important: enjoyment

I wouldn't normally read something like this but I decided to give it a go. It is definitely aimed at children in primary/elementary school, as there is a glossary explaining words like 'alliteration' and 'palindrome', although the main character, Eliot, was 12. He was arrogant and cocky and although he "just seems to know everything", Eliot had no idea who Cerberus the 3 headed dog was. The only decent puzzles were at the beginning and the end of the very short story; the rest were nonsensical ...more

A crime has been committed and Eliot knows who committed it. Within this novella, he tells the truth through a serious of anagrams and other puzzles.
A really good quick read, literally took me an hour! Loved the originality and loved trying to work out the anagrams and clues within this novel. The only reason this did not get five stars is because I unfortunately guessed the ending :( I wish I had been wrong as it would have made it a massive twist, however I thought it was slightly too obvious

Saw a review of this book and thought it would make a good addition to the library. It's in the thread of Curious Incident ... boy with Asperger's is bullied at school and sets up crime scene to implicate bully! Lots of talk about numbers, patterns, anagrams and he's also a library helper ... "libraries are safe and full of amazing words!" A simpler story that's quite easy to read and is a bit quirky. Would it appeal to students with Asperger's or would they find it slightly patronising? Not ...more
