I started the book a few months ago and had some trouble with the first chapter. It wasn't keeping my attention at all. I set it down. I am so glad I came back and gave it another go as once I got into the second chapter, I really started to enjoy the book. There is a lot to the book as it weaves together the lives of these friends. Can't believe it's been 24 (!) years since this book was published! And I lent it out so often I don't now know where it's ended up...I like to think my copy is making it's way around our community with the gushing enthusiasm that I always launched it with.

But it has been so long that I have only the haziest memories of what I liked so much about it. I vaguely remember the characters and situations and dialogue resonating strongly with my experience as a leftie pro-feminist gay libber. More so t

i read this about ten years ago and wanted to read it again because there was a part in it that i wanted to see again: i got the right to be in this world... i am a child of the universe.
i didn't finish it this second time through though so i'm still on the hunt for those lines.
