This is the second time I have read this book, as the last time was years ago. The story is different then any mummy tale I have seen to date. It deals more so with immortality then raising the dead, and the emotional turmoil that accompanies being immortal.
The Story moves quickly and the characters are very likeable. The reason I only gave the book four stars is because three quarters of the way through the book, I found the characters where not behaving quite like themselves and also beca...more

I read this one over the weekend. It had some entertaining elements, but generally was just OK. The concept of immortality was pretty neat (hey live forever without having to eat people - yay!) and I liked the Egyptology element. The disappointing part was the "heroine" who everyone kept saying was "strong" but who was basically just a weepy female. The only character I truly enjoyed and who had any depth was Cleopatra. Ramses was great at first but all the vacillating kind o...more

Take Cleopatra out of the book and it'll be 5 star rating for me, but if you take her out, then there is no book. So, again, I love history and Egypt and this is a story about both and how it lives again in the modern times. I re read and researched about Ramses II after this and hoping against hope that Cleopatra is not in the picture. But anyway, I love Ramses, for the same reasons why I love lestat and Ashlar - Rice writes them beautifully and perfectly and yet so flawed in many respects, so ...more

This was one of Anne's better books. Not quite predicable, but some of the characters are a little slow on the up take of what was going on. I'm so used to reading her vampire novels, that I kept expecting a run in with a vamp. She left the story very open ended, even stated that Ramses story will go on. But has since stated that she will never write another story about him. Sounds to me like a good reason for fans to start writing their own stories. For once she has hetero-love going on, and sh...more

Anyone interested in Egyptian mythology and Rice fans.
This was just a great old-fashioned-style novel of an adventure in Egypt. Rice's lavish writing and compelling dialogue are very evident in this novel. It is not part of any series, making it easy for someone who has never been introduced to Rice's literature before. The story of Ramses and his elixir of life is compelling and fun. Rice has given us a fun adventure story that doesn't require any harsh scrutiny or deep thinking, making it something great for lazy summer days when we want some vic...more

Everyone who loves Egypt and Ms. Rice
This is my absolute all time favorite book by Anne Rice! She introduced me to a new kind of mummy that was actually attractive. It's not your typical "Mummy" style story. The intro of Cleopatra really threw me for a loop. Anne Rice's "The Mummy" inspired me to write my own novel. You can feel the characters and see the surroundings so vividly. Her twist on the "Mummy" was a surprising and pleasant shock!

Apparently I liked Anne Rice a lot! Nice to read a book that wasn't 'to be coninued'. She's cornered the market on almost every scary monster in the horror genre excluding wearwolves and frankenstein. As always there's a nice glimpse of history combined with a great story. She always seems to combine the erotic and the scary very well, without going too overboard in either direction. The inner conflict of her characters truly gives them the human quality anyone should relate to.

I enjoyed reading this book so much; I am still surprised to this day that Anne Rice only left this as a stand alone. If memory serves, it seemed as if there were openings for more books to be written. While her books need to be taken with a grain of salt, they suffer from over romanticism and eroticsim for me; this was a good one. It was at least an interesting subject matter, a good protagonist, and great supernatural theme.

I read this book awhile back adn really enjoyed it - as you can tell by the title of the book it is based an ancient Egyptian phorah. It is different from her other books because it stays away from Vampires but it does have magic with in and Ramses is part of the undead but very different from Vampires.
A recommended read for all Anne Rice fans - she uses the same written style and describes everything in such vivid details.

The Mummy: Ramses the Damned - VG
Anne Rice - Standalone
I have very much enjoyed "Interview with a Vampire," liked "The Vampire Lestat" and really disliked "the Queen of the Damned." Rice is an excellent writer, but I'm just not a big horror fan. "The Mummy," which still being horror, is also a romance, which is what really softened the plot for me. I've enjoyed this the best of her books.

This is actually my favorite Anne Rice book. I'm surprised by that myself, as I really enjoyed the first four books of the Vampire Chronicles and have always assumed they were my favorite.
But all these years laters, it's this book that I remember most and remember enjoying a great deal as I read it. I thought it was original and sad and loved the concept.

This book was instantly gripping, without quite so much of the angst of her normal works. Highly addictive, it leaves you absolutely pandering for a sequel. Possibly my favorite of all of her works, and I've read every book she's ever written, to my knowledge, even the ones written under other names. An absolute must OWN for any true Anne Rice fan.

I thought it's gonna be full of nasty murdered or else, but it turned out I did enjoy the story, mengupas sisi lain kehidupan mummy (jika seandainya ia hidup, tentunya ..)
Alangkah indahnya jika semua mummy bisa seromantis itu kan ?

When the film, "The Mummy" came out, I was so excited because I thought it was based on this book...sadly, no. I don't normally get into this sort of book (mummies, pyramids, amulets), I prefer vampires, serial killers, and other, more witty, sorts of baddies; but I loved this book. I highly recommend it.

I've read this over and over and I'm not sure why. I love to read about ancient Egypt and this book goes into some of that so maybe that's why. I wish Anne Rice had continued this story but she never did and says she won't so just know that it says To Be Continued but ain't gonna happen.

My favorite Anne Rice book, I just fell in love with it when I was young. Sadly though at the end of the book it is a continued story line, but Anne Rice has no intention of ever finishing up the story line. It is left haning in the imaginations of the readers.

This is not my favorite genre but admittedly, I liked it okay. It's really far fetched with the idea of raising the dead and living forever. I thought the characters had appaling immorality issues and would not recommend it by reason of it's graphic nature.
