I thought when I got this book, oh it's just 80 pages or so and I'll be done in a day or two. On the contrary, it has taken me months to read. Every paragraph is dense and thorny; once I've gotten through a few pages I need to digest for a week or two. Each word weighs heavy: every sentence incredibly precise and yet managing to float in some nether region of language, beyond silence. Truthfully, I have 20 more pages to plow through, but I don't know if I can take any more loss.

I read parts of this book while waiting for someone. It made me aware of the wait and how the wait sometimes becomes the event.

Blanchot does an amazing job of writing about silence. Reading this book connected me to my own process of thinking and speaking.
