My dear friend Heather lent me this book and told me that I had to read it. The novel Asking for Trouble is what the movie The Wedding Date was based on. The movie was completely disappointing because the book is hundreds of miles better. The book is filled with innocent misunderstandings and such depth of emotional plot between the characters that it is hard not to get wrapped up with them. I had to go out and buy it before I returned my friend's copy and have since re-read it ...more

A million times better than the movie (The Wedding Date)! This book is hilarious! I love how Elizabeth Young's characters are always getting themselves into impossible situations -- too funny. The movie changed quite a bit, and in my opinion was not good.

Akhirnyaaaaaa.......

The book is so much better than the movie! (The movie they made from this book is </b>The Wedding Date</b> with Debra Messing & Dermot Mulroney.) The movie felt really forced and it wasn't like that at all in the book. The book was your non so typical swan story - kind of a reverse Pretty Woman except the guy wasn't really a ho he was just Ho for a night to help out a good friend. (awwwwwww.)
But seriously - it's a cute story and worth the read.

A funny British romp (ala Bridget Jones) this novel stars Sophy Metcalfe, a thirty-something woman who invents the perfect boyfriend to keep her mother off her back. Unfortunately, when her sister's wedding comes along her mother forces her hand and Sophy decides to hire an escort to help her get through the wedding weekend (instead of telling the truth, of course). When she begins to fancy the escort, she tells herself to curb her feelings...but what if he feels the same?

This book had been sitting around my apartment for a very long time, and I decided I needed something this lighthearted and, in a word, frivolous, after slogging my way through Saving the World. I gave it three stars because I put myself in the mindset of the point at which it was originally published, in the midst of the British chick lit boom. I haven't seen the film based on the book, so I can't prepare one to the other. This was okay; a quick read, and not unpleasant. Sophy and Eli...more

Maybe this is my fault to watched the movie adaptation-nya duluan, baru setelah itu baca novelnya...memang gak ada aturan tertulis untuk 'baca bukunya dulu baru ntn filmnya' but that's what i always do...based on reason, bisa gak si filmmaker, menginterpretasi khayalan gw..huehehe..
But, sadly to say...filmnya dengan judul 'Wedding Date' (starred by Dermot Mulroney and Debra Messing) ternyata jauuuuuhhhh....lebih entertaining dibandingkan dengan bukunya. 'Asking for Trouble' terlalu banyak berp...more

Such a cute story!!! I really felt for the main female character - she got herself into a lie that she couldn't get out of....all because of a guy! All of us single girls have at one point or another felt like we wanted to lie to family/friends about having a boyfriend - sometimes it is just easier!!! Here's the story of how far that lie could go! Loved that the main female character wasn't a perfect figured girl and that she had a foul mouth and could take a joke - although some of the brit...more

LOVED this. It took me a while to get into the rhythem of this Brit slang, but the story is so clever and the guy is so cute. The ending is just about perfect! I would have given it 5 stars if the language was a little cleaner. Enjoy!!

AKA, The Wedding Date (movie with Debra Messing). I can see where the movie is based on (woman hires escort to be date to her sister's wedding), but basically this is a completely different story from the movie...and in an OK way. The main character is WAY neurotic and can get on your nerves a bit and I dont know that the love interest is really fleshed out that well. Its kind of long as well. To me this is the 2nd case in my history that the movie is BETTER than the book (Fried Green T...more

This is the book that the movie "The Wedding Date" was based on. The basic plot is the same, but overall the book is very different from the movie. In both, a woman hires an escort to accompany her to her younger sister's wedding, as she has fibbed about having a fabulous boyfriend to save face in front of her parents and their friends. Naturally, she falls in love with the man she has hired. This is a fun, light read perfect to cheer you up if you're having a stressful day.

Young's book is funny and filled with comic drama. THE WEDDING DATE movie is very loosely based on the Sophy character's trials. Sophy's neurotic persona resonated with me. Her desire to support her family, please her mother and keep up the facade that she really is sane is hilarious. Her obstacle is when she must balance all of this with finding her own happiness. This is a fun, quick read that will make you laugh at every page-turn.

I fell in love with The Wedding Date! When I heard it was based on a book, I went out and bought it right away!
I loved this book just as much as the movie! It wasn't anything like the movie except for the hiring-an-escort-to-take-to-your-sister's-wedding part. Their were other great characters and a lot of funny moments. When you are a busy mom like me with a stressful job, its nice to escape into a light-hearted story like this one.

Nice book ..
So many trouble caused by multiply lies (so typical).
But in the end the problems just solved.
Gemes banget g bacanya .. soalnya antara tokoh utama (cewe) dengan escortnya dia udah ada fling-fling kecil, tapi dua-duanya menahan diri !! (so profesiaonal)
Walaupun pada akhirnya bareng juga ..
Bacaan ringan kalo lagi suntuk ama kerjaan :)
Atau buku yang menemani lo pergi keluar kota .. easy to read ^-^

Great book, funny and sexy. The movie Wedding Date is "supposedly" based on this book. Not even close, in the movie there is a wedding, and a hired date, other then that, no part of this book is in that movie. I loved this book, it mad me laugh out loud.Everyone is British. The heroine is a crack up. The couples chemistry is really felt. I was routing for them! Fun read.

I enjoyed this book. It was a light read and entertaining even though the main character could get irritating with all her whining about her "wobbly bits". On that note, I think a British slang dictionary would have helped me enjoy the book just a bit more. Now I'm interested in seeing the American movie "The Wedding Date" just to see how it translated to screen.

*yawn* This is one of those books that tries to be like Bridget Jones but fails miserably. I hate that. I've read too many books that try to be like it, and it never works out. There were moments where I imagined I could write the book myself and it would turn out exactly the same, which is not saying anything good about the writing. Just boring and meh.

British slang peppers this book so much at times you wonder what in the world the author is writing about. I found myself continuing to read it get to just finish the book. The main character starts weaving a ridiculous set of lies and of course they all have to unravel by the end. There are a few slightly surprising twists but nothing jaw dropping.

It was a funny book and a very fast read, but it was a sort of silly story & not a book of any depth at all. I did love that the language was quintessentially British, and the slang was wonderful & hilarious. I laughed out loud a number of times throughout, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a very fast, light, funny book for a quick weekend read.
