You must love to read and love to practice chinese martial arts to get into these books. They are brilliant and also hard to follow. But do give it a try if you have the time to read.

This is a classic of chinese literature. It originally was a serial story orally told by chinese storytellers, based on the semi-historical Song Jiang and the 108 heroes of Liangshan Marsh. Like many stories of this genesis, many of the themes are repetitive and many characters lack distinction. Perhaps orally transmitted these shortcomings are ameliorated. Some of the story arcs are better than others. The "heroes" are thieves, murderers, brigands, and cannibals who, over the cou...more

One of the four classics of Chinese literature, with translation by Sidney Shapiro. I have doubts as to the accuracy of the translation, but the stories themselves are wonderful, almost like a chinese Robin Hood. One that wasn't afraid to blackmail innocent people every now and then, or whose Merry Men were a little more salt of the earth. Very good nonetheless.

i never actually finished all the books, but i remember the part i did read kicked butt. it's a martial arts fairytale so it has to kick butt. it's basically a collection of short stories with one butt kicker after another

Really interesting, mainly for boys. They way the ancient Chinese treated women wasn't as equals. But to learn about Chinese culture and one of the famous stories was great!

This is one of my favorite books. It's a long epic tale. I love it. My favorite video games series (Suikoden) is (loosely) based on this book. <3 Sagacious Lu 4eva.

Basically a serial epic soap opera with martial arts. It's very formulaic and repetitive at times, but sort of fun if you are a patient reader.

Just starting on this one. I am liking it more as I become accustomed to the Chinese classical novel's style of writing.
