I LOVED the Darkness Chosen series. I LOVED the first 4 books of The Chosen Ones series. But this one was just a little weird for me, the ending a bit too sugary for my taste.

Well the first thing - The cover is MAJOR false advertising! Aleksandr is covered in hair for like 85-90 percent of the book! And when I say covered in hair, I mean - half animal :O

After waiting months for the ending of this series, I guess I anticipated the story to go in some other direction... Actually, the story itself...more

When waiting for a long anticipated book, knowing that it will bring the story to an end a reader often has mixed feelings. One, will it live up to the hype and two does it really have to end? It shares when characters we think are good are less than perfect and it shares when characters that we thinks should be irredeemable and yet are. I have enjoyed this series from the very beginning and yes am so very sad to see it end. But Ms Dodd, ends it exactly when she should and let me say she does it with a bang!!

Aleksandr Wilder, miracle baby.. A Child of prophecy who walked through fire at a very young age. He was chosen as a chosen not because he had powers but because of who he was. His family had already beat a millennium old contract with the devil, whose to say this generation couldn't do it again? He was still a child when he was chosen, brilliant, generous, kind but still a child. Four years into his service he went to get married and disappeared no one knew if he was alive or dead... Three years later the only thing he knows is that he doesn't know anything. He is the Guardian, a beast whose sole job is to protect those below. The homeless, the mentally ill, society's cast offs. The ones who weren't protected BEFORE Armageddon and certainly not after.

Charisma Fangorn (and no she does not live with the Ents) has heard the hearth speak to her for most of her life. Raised by a parent who took advantage of her talents she escaped to become her own woman. A free spirited woman who in my opinion was the heart of the Chosen. Smart mouthed and funky she yanked everyone's chains and yet she was always the one who held on to hope. Real hope that good would overcome evil. Charisma was traveling below searching for her missing bracelet when she was attacked by demons and left for dead. Brought to the Guardian's cave where she was able to resist the demon poison she finds more than healing.

Charisma and the Guardian tell a wonderful beauty and the beast story. In many ways it reminded me of Catherine and Vincent (oh come on you remember Ron Pearlman and Linda Hamilton's version of the story). Living in the tunnels below New York City. Seriously, I want to check out those tunnels so much happens down there.. from mysterious beasts to ancient treasures.. *grins* The Guardian knows if he goes to close to the surface he will be found so he is destined to remain below and Charisma is destined to return to her duties as a chosen one.

This story was poignant, it brought tears to my eyes several times. It was fierce, the chosen truly believed that they had a chance to ensure that good would prevail. It was romantic in oh so many ways, the most obvious in being that true love conquers all. It was a story about so much more than one man and one woman and yet in so many ways it was the story of man and woman. I LOVED this book.

I enjoyed seeing the Wilders again, who among us doesn't love Konstantine Wilder? I enjoyed some of the humor.. Rosie the bus driver especially, seriously this woman had a schedule to keep. I appreciated that Ms Dodd made sure that love conquered all for more than Charisma and Aleksandr. The story of choices and sacrifices of doing what was right above all was a truly powerful one. I could go on and on and on about this book but I keep stumbling into spoilerville and I hate doing that so I will just say.. read this book!!

This is not a stand alone book, sure you could read it as one but there is so much history, so much that came before. I suggest you not only read the Chosen Ones but you also read the Darkness Chosen Series first.. But even if you don't want to read all that came before.. read this book!!

Christina Dodd has crafted a series of paranormal, action-packed romance that began with the Darkness Chosen series and finished up in the Chosen Ones. The link between the two series is the grandson, Alexsandr Wilder, born from the great family of Konstantine Wilder-a family of shape shifters that had at one time worked for the very devil himself, but when the pact was broken, the family lost their ability to shift into their animal forms. The Darkness Chosen series ends with the birth of Alexsandr and Konstantine proclaiming he could prove to be the most powerful Wilder to ever be born.
The Chosen Ones is a series that begins years later, for Alexsandr is now a man, a young man just twenty-one, but called to join the elite group of individuals whom all have unique powers and are called The Chosen Ones. Each person in the group has a different ability: Isabelle is a healer, Samuel can read and project thoughts into minds, Aaron can shape shift into shadows, Charisma can hear the earth, but Alexsandr has no gift. His presence is in name only and for years he has felt like a fraud. The Wilder name has earned him his seat and Alexsandr let's his doubts plague him until he eventually vanishes.
That is where this book picks up; where has Alexsandr been for several years? What has been happening to the Chosen Ones? How is the world going to survive without the seven strong?
The best part of this book is that it combines both story lines from both series to end in a dramatic conclusion that was a phenomenal way to tie everything together. I loved catching up on old characters and interweaving the two series together was fantastic.
In this book, Alexsandr earned his way into the Wilder family history storybooks with no question. He proved to be a hero with a big heart, a lot of humility, a lot of character and you couldn't help but root for him.
The other half of the story comes from Charisma Fangorn. She falls for Alexsandr, but not the man she'd grown to know in the Chosen Ones. The man she falls for is known as the Guardian. A man who is part beast, covered with fur, muscle and mane length hair. Guardian saves her from the bowels of the earth and nurses her back to health, but while she heals she decides to help the man who lives inside the beast, for he cannot remember who is or where he comes from. For as long as she has with him she decides to help return his kindness, by helping him heal and regain what humanity he can. Only realizing at the end when they must part, that it is Alexsandr, the very man everyone has been searching for. The very man they all need to help end the evil reign, could it be too late? Will their love be enough?
It is a brilliant story and was well worth the wait!

Wild for Wilder!!!!

Every seven years a group of “Chosen” are selected and these seven are to battle the evil that is attacking the world. The “Chosen” must work together if they are to succeed in defeating this evil. Unfortunately time is running out!

3.5 stars - WILDER was a bit of a mixed read for me but my 'likes' boil down to the fact that I liked Charisma and I liked her with the Guardian - once they got past an initial hurdle - and I liked seeing bits of the previous Chosen pairs.

Dodd obviously wanted to do a big reunion that included the cast from the original Darkness Chosen series, but honestly, I would have been happy with the Wilder grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles just showing up for the big battle and the epilog.

...the Beauty and the Beast tack that Dodd took with Wilder was is an odd choice (despite the fact that I generally like the trope) and there are actually some borderline moments early in the story between Charisma and the Guardian – who is a bit too close to being beastly for me to be entirely comfortable with their first 'love' scene. I do need to give Dodd credit for getting me to accept the physical relationship between them – in the aftermath of that joining Charisma dealt with the Guardian's anger and gave an honest and believable explanation of why his appearance was not an issue for her.

… even after thinking on this awhile, I am not sure why fulfilling the prophesy wins the day for the Chosen, maybe... nope, I have no clue.

... But my biggest nit with WILDER was that I think that the story would have been more effective if the mystery surrounding the Guardian had been an actual mystery and not spoiled by the title and the prolog >and<, the back cover blurb, the characters figure it out on their own during the course of the story and I'd have liked to have been a bit more in the moment with their discovery.

I know that it looks like my 'nits' outweigh my 'likes' on the basis of 'verbal tonnage' but Dodd gets a little leeway for the prolog and the extended epilog – with final bows and babies for everyone - since this is the final book in the Chosen One and Darkness Chosen series and I did really like the parts with Charisma and the Guardian along with getting to see Isabelle and Samuel, and Caleb and Jacqueline, and Genny and John, and Aaron and Rosamund one last time. The book was beyond expectations.. I gotta say, Ms. Dodd is still captivating her readers with such rich material, one really can't help but get addicted!

I have been waiting for this story for a VERY long time. We first met Aleksander when he was a baby in the Darkness Chosen series and we have been waiting to find out what happened to him after he went into the court house at the end of the last book. Now we know.

I wasn't as happy with this book as I was with the first few in the series. We (the reader) know who the Guardian is even though we are never actually told until the middle of the book and even though neither Aleksander or Charisma know...more I have been waiting for this story for a VERY long time. I wasn't as happy with this book as I was with the first few in the series. We (the reader) know who the Guardian is even though we are never actually told until the middle of the book and even though neither Aleksander or Charisma know who he is. The amnesia approach makes sense given the situation and the things that were done to the Guardian, but the obviousness of the Guardian's identity to the reader took a lot of the suspense out of the story. There really wasn't much surprise or question as to how the story would have to go and most everything was predictable.

That said, I still enjoyed the characters of Aleksander, Charisma, and the Chosen Ones as they appeared throughout the book. There were many places where the humor was silly but, becuase of that silliness it made the book more enjoyable.

The best thing about the book (and this was true with the Darkness Chosen series as well) is that as a series ender, it truly ended the situation and that time in the world that had been created for the story. The last chapter takes us four years into the future to show us the current lives of the Chosen we have been folloowing as well as introducing the offspring of those Chosen. We also see that there is a new batch of seven Chosen (so there is continuity of the world rather than an apprubt unbellievable ending). The opening has been left to return to the world in later years when the Chosen offspring are grown, to revisit the world with the new seven Chosen or to not go back at all. Things are wrapped up but the world continues on.

Overall, a good book and a very satisfying ending to the series. Predictable and not a book that will elave you on the edge of your seat, but still a nice read and a must if you have been following the series. And yes - the Wilder clan does show up in the book...twice. Once at the beginning and again at the end.(less)

I have read the Darkness Chosen series and the other installments to the Chosen Ones series, and I was wildly anticipating Aleksandr's book. Unfortunately, I felt like it was a bit of a let down. Wilder was a pretty good read for me. Except, I was really Angry at Christina Dodd for taking so long to bring out this installment. I liked the Beauty and Beast Theme. This book is basically the tale of Beauty and the Beast. Having said that, Dodd brings new twists to the traditional story. I particularly enjoyed that her main characters, Alexander and Charisma, were well-drawn. Unlike many paranormal romance books, the characters have motivation for their thoughts and actions.

I also enjoy Dodd's writing style.

I really liked this series and I was a little dissappointed by this book. besides it reminding me a lot of the '80s Tv show of beauty and the beast it seemed like she was rushing to finish the series. in all the other books I never caught any kind of romantic connection between the main characters besides friendship and in this book it just hit you with the it. Questions, questions, questions without answers. I assume this is the end of the spinoff series, but there were some things where the explanation was...shall we say...inadequate?

I feel like I waited for this book forever. The Darkness Chosen is one of my favorite series and so it made sense to continue on with the Chosen ones. Really excited about the premise of this book. And of course, as the final installment in the Chosen Ones series, I was looking forward to seeing the plot resolved.

First impression: An amnesiac werewolf and a temporarily blind goth hippie? Classic.

I never really got past my awareness of the ridiculous. The ending was particularly unbelievable, and unexplained. I still don't understand why these characters made everything so hard for themselves. And why did it take seven years to jump off a building with some feathers? And what will happen now? Peace for a thousand years?

Sorry, Dodd. Me=confused.

I wasn't actually all that impressed. The story took forever to get off the ground and I wanted to put it down several times, it was better towards the middle and then the end was a little too much for me.

Oh, and why put a sexy man on the cover when he's more Beast from Beauty and the Beast for 96% of the book?

If this is the last book, is it worth reading the rest of the series?

Final book of The Chosen Ones series is about an amnesiac shapeshifter Aleksandr Wilder (The Guardian) and Charisma Fangorn whose gift is to hear the earth 'sing'. This was a very satisfying ending to the series. The action never stopped and all threads of the story were wrapped up neatly. The sensuality rating is scorching. A true Beauty and the Beast romance.

3 1/2 stars. Characters were great as usual. Loved the look into original family of Chosen (still my fav). Drug a little at first after interesting start. Fast paced at end.
