Third in the Far-Flung Adventures series. Hugo, aged 10 or so, was found in the Far North bundled into a blanket and tucked into a strange sleigh. Polar bear prints were all around the sleigh, indicating the fate of his parents. Hugo was adopted by Harvi and Sarvi Runter-Tun-Tun, makers of the finest reindeer cheese in the Far North. And then Hugo finds the sleigh stored in the milking shed and he starts his adventure. Taking sad leave of his adoptive parents, Hugo and the sleigh fly south

Wow! What a ride...this is a very long book to read with children and to be honest, our youngest wasn't all that thrilled, although she did listen attentively for most of it. But I loved the book (and I think our oldest did too!) It has intrigue, intricately woven stories that connect and reconnect, a veritable soap opera. I think it was a little difficult to read aloud, merely for the fact that the book switches back and forth so much, from background stories to present day, from one charac

I think this is a fun trilogy – Hugo Pepper is book 3. It's amazing how different each of these Far Flung Adventures are written, yet they remain interconnected. I'm not sure if I can say that Hugo Pepper is my favorite of the series, but it was very interesting and like the other two, extremely high quality in both story an illustrations.
Hugo Pepper is written in a unique style – short stories give parts of a lager story, but not in chronological order – I liked the stories within More...

The story was a little confusing at the beginning but made sense after getting into the book. It is a series of chapters that skips back and forth between the adventure of Hugo trying to find where his parents called home and "Once upon a time" stories that were collected by a man who turns out to be Hugo's grandfather. The book is full of great illustrations that help tell the story and once you get the hang of how the chapters move along, it becomes a puzzle that gets pieced togethe

This is the first book in the series of "Far-Flung Adventures". The story begins with people called Harvi River-Tun-Tun and Sarvi River-Tun-Tun, cheese makers and reindeer herders of the Frozen North. Then the main character, of course, Hugo Pepper, finds out they aren't his real parents. They all then fix an airship and Hugo set's out to Firefly Square. There he meets Lily and Daisy Neptune, Diego and Freda Camomile, Edward Eveshaft, and many more other people, while stopping a plot t

Harley read this first... so I'm "catching" up. So far, it's just a fun read for a younger audience. Think Princess Bride watered down... crazy characters, impossible situations, GREAT illustrations, and just a good book.
Finished it. So charming. There are two other "far flung" books so far, with another one in the works. I'm excited to delve into them, and to have something a bit challenging and lengthy for Harley to read that is engaging and fun (without be More...

These certainly are far-flung adventures but I love them. Chris Riddell & Paul Stewart do a great job weaving in mystery, a little suspense, and fun. I think they are very well written with interesting characters & story lines.

Fun little read. The series is cute and I always suggest it to boys who aren't interested in reading. In fact I suggest all of Paul Stewart & Chris Riddell's books to reluctant readers. Fun and quirky, just like me. :)

Great Pre-teen boy book. Interesting story-line. You really connect with the main character and hope that he ends up happy. I would love to read more of these adventures and to get to know more of the characters!

This book was a little harder to follow since it has a bunch of little stories but it all comes together by the end. It was another fun read.

Hugo doesn't end as strong as Fergus Crane and Corby Flood, but is just as fun, creative, and witty. Loved it.

4 1/2 stars, really. This is not a book to start and take a few days break from, because part 1 gives a lot to keep track of. But once you start, you get through the entire book rather quickly!

I loved how all of the stories in the book mixed into a big understanding as the story developed.

These are the CUTEST, FUNNIEST, EASY reads you will find in a long time. The story lines are lighthearted and simple, and all three "far flung adventures" are about kids in the same area who don't know each other, so you get little bits and pieces of the other stories in each one (which I think is kind of fun...maybe they will make a book connecting all of the characters in the end). And the illustrations (at least one on every page) are OUTSTANDING. Highly recommended for young rea

I enjoyed this book as I have all the other work this author has done. I do think that the format of his writing style might be a little hard to follow for beginning readers. Each chapter seems to start a new story so it's hard to follow the main idea of the story. I do think a reader who truly is interested in the story will be able to follow along though. A fun adventure involving a young boy who is trying to discover where his true home is. Filled with fun and interesting characters, it's a j

this is great series. altogether, the 3 books i have given 12 stars.
HUGO PEPPER, is probably the best of them.
The illustrations are exceptional, and so is the story, very smart and superb.
I loved it!!!!
I loved the tie ins with others books from the series too.
What else can i say except its an exceptional book and a quick read.

Same authors as the Edge chronicles, which I didn't like at all either. It seems like each chapter is the start of a new story with new characters. Neither the characters nor the story advance at all, so at 60 pages I decided I didn't care enough to keep reading.

I picked this up at the library to pre-read before handing it over to my children and found it to be a fair book. The cast of characters is interesting and the story line while woven in and out, moved well.

Absolutely first rate fun!!! I will immediately seek out other books by these authors. Delightful illustrations, and cleverly interwoven stories.

This was a fine book, a little too heavy on the quirkiness factor, but good none the less. And the illustrations drove me nuts! ugh.

I did not like the format. It had multiple stories which eventually all tie in together. It was a fun story though.
