I really enjoyed this short story. It is the same story line as in Hurricane but from Hayden's perspective. At first I thought it would begin where Hurricane left off and I was kind of thinking I should have read Hurricane again since it was over a year ago I read it but then I realized that it was Hurricane but from Hayden's perspective and then I thought will that be bad reading the story again? I was lucky enough to have read and reviewed Hurricane for Jenna-Lynne back in September of 2011. I've been not-so-patiently waiting for the sequel. I fell in love with Adriana, the strong and accepting heroine, and her two heros - Hayden and Luke Boudreaux. To say I was ecstatic when asked to review this novella is an understatement.

I want to try to make this as spoiler free as possible. This is a short story told from the perspective of Hayden in the story Hurricane by Jenna-Lynne Duncan. If you read my review of Hurricane, you know I had a lot of problems with it (I gave it one star) and you’re probably surprised that I would read the companion novella Tempest. After reading Hurricane I had no intention of reading anything else in this series, however, the author sent me an e-mail and asked if I would like to read Tempest. The e-mail was very short (seriously, only two or three sentences), perfectly pleasant, and didn’t refer to my review at all; I actually replied asking if the...more If you read my review of Hurricane, you know I had a lot of problems with it (I gave it one star) and you’re probably surprised that I would read the companion novella Tempest. After reading Hurricane I had no intention of reading anything else in this series, however, the author sent me an e-mail and asked if I would like to read Tempest. The e-mail was very short (seriously, only two or three sentences), perfectly pleasant, and didn’t refer to my review at all; I actually replied asking if the review had been read. It had, and, though my first reaction was, "No, thanks!", since it was a novella and I pretty much slammed Hurricane, I figured the least I could do was read Tempest (there are definitely some books I would not feel this way about), though I did warn Jenna that I’d write an honest review of it, which she was fine with.

That out of the way, it’s going to be an honest review, but not an overly long one. There’s no need to go into what Tempest is about, only because the events in this novella are the same as those in Hurricane, except from Hayden’s POV. I know this is nit-picky, but there were still too many editing and even timeline errors for me. Just a couple of examples: place was used instead of pace, than and then were used incorrectly, and, at one point, it was mentioned that it had been two months since the storm, yet, about six pages earlier it said the storm had hit all of five weeks ago.

Story-wise, I thought that this was much better than Hurricane. For one thing, several things that didn’t make sense to me, including something that I despise in books, insta-love (at least on Hayden’s part) are explained. Maybe it’s also because I thought Ana was too whiny and wimpy, but I liked Hayden’s POV much better; his voice was more mature (as it should be) and his insight into the events that were taking place made them make more sense. While it doesn’t change my mind about the issues I had with Hurricane, I still feel some of the plot points needed work, I think if it had, not necessarily alternated POVs every chapter, but included a chapter or two from Hayden’s perspective every now and then, even if some secrets were revealed earlier, it would have been a much more complete and solid book. Several times while reading it I found myself thinking, “If only this had been in Hurricane!” I mentioned the reasons I read this and I wasn’t expecting to like it any more than Hurricane, but, to my surprise, I honestly did.

At the end of my review of Hurricane I said I couldn’t recommend it. However, I have no problem recommending that you read Tempest, especially if you liked Hurricane, or even if you were on the fence about it. It fills in a lot of gaps and, as I said, I felt that it was just a more complete book, even though it was just a novella.(less)

When I read the first book in this series, Hurricane, I felt there were a few things that were a bit unclear about the plot lines. I’m glad to say that reading this novella really helped me to piece some things together and remember what all happened in the first book.

Anyways, even though I totally love Luke...I still really like Hayden. Both boys are great but you know..lil 'ol be likes the mysterious bad boys...even though Luke isn't bad...just mysterious. This book basically goes everything that happened in Hurricane just very much summarized....and from Hayden's POV of course. Ya, so everything that we read but shorter, skipping over some main events.

Obviously if it is from Hayden's POV there is going to be more behind the scenes and it will be shorter. And it was. But that is what a novella is for..to give some knowledge for in between books. But here is what I need to get at I guess...Yes, I like Hayden. It was kinda cool to see his point of view but...I didn't think it was all that necessary Again, novellas (.5's, 1.5's, 2.5's, etc) are meant to give knowledge to the readers about what was going on between certain scenes, before the book, in between books. This was just a summary of what we already read. The difference being it was shorter and from Hayden's POV. That was pretty much it. I

It was nothing we didn't already know. Even if it was intended for a more romantic take like Twilight being taken on by Edward, we had already saw his love and because he was such an open book pretty much with his feelings with Ana...I didn't see the necessity. What I would have enjoyed more was it being from Luke's POV (again..here is where some may think I am biased...oh wells.) I mean...bias aside...it would have made more sense. Luke's POV would have given needed knowledge. From the very beginning we knew that Hayden was infatuated with Ana. He may have been criptick and a bit reserved at times but through it all we as readers knew he still liked her a lot...there was just something that was holding him back but with Luke...He hated her. He wanted to kill her. He was focused on the goal and wasn't willing to let feelings get caught up in his mission. Then all of a sudden...BAM! He loves her to.

The novella from his POV would have let us in to his more mysterious character. We might have gotten to see the hurt behind his parents death...the need that drove him to kill Ana. When did the light switch on and he decided he loved her too? When did she become The One? I merely think (again bias totally aside) it would have filled a bigger purpose. We knew more about Hayden because Hurricane--in a sense--was Ana and his book. They were the main love interest. The plot revolved around Ana and Hayden's love. We got side swept with Luke's love. I mean...he hated her!! Was I the only one thrown off guard? I just don't know I really would have liked it from Luke's POV. To me it would have served a better purpose. Let you gain knowledge of the things we didn't know.

I liked Tempest. I enjoyed seeing Hayden's view. I am super duper excited for Aftermath!!! So, even though it may sound like I didn't enjoy this novella...and I am complaining...I am not. I enjoyed it. It was really good! A bit blotchy at times but again....it kinda had to be. It isn't absolutely necessary to read but it was fun to read...worth it! :) If you are a fan of Hurricane then definitely read it! And if you are TeamHayden then ya....you may want to really read it and maybe you will like it more than me hahaha but what can I say...I am a Luke kinda girl ;) So because the blotchy play and the fact I felt it unnecessary....nothing against the writing...or the series...!! It is still a good ranking I just wasnt completely thrilled with it :) SO can't wait for the next book though!! Please give me!! give me!! give me!! (oh and psst....it has a sneak peak to it!!...I skipped it cus..well I always do when there are ones....I like to be surprised...I feel more needy if I read them hahaha)

Hayden is so conflicted. He knows falling in love with Adriana is the worst possible idea ever, yet he cannot stop the feelings he is has for her. He is drawn to her and has to be near her. And seeing this side of him makes me adore him that much more, because in Hurricane we saw a different Hayden. We saw a Hayden that could be a jerk at times. So seeing him from his POV sheds a new light on what he was going through to have him acting that way.

Im a fan of stories that are written in a different perspective. Its been a while since i read Hurricane so it was good to get a little recap on the story, plus seeing things from Hayden's POV. After reading this i want something from Luke's POV, i love his character and id love to read about whats going on in his mysterious head.
Looking forward to Aftermath, seeing the story continue plus more of Luke :-P
