Not all that glitters is gold.

Nikolai Krasnorada leads the life of a corporate nomad. Working for a gold explorations company, he’s never put down roots, and he likes it that way. Roots can be dangerous, as everyone from his “man-hating” sister to his manipulative mother to his war-traumatized father has proven.

But when his CEO sends him to Toronto to strike a deal with Le...more

(…) Like finding pure gold in the strangest place.

Nikolai is a partner of Cybele Exploration. They are into gold exploration and the company is in need of a strong financial partner to get the stuff out of the ground. Cybele's CEO, Ruslan, is sending Nikolai to Toronto to negotiate with LeBeau Mining and there Nikolai meets Henri LeBeau. Unfortunately the whole deal turns into a hostile takeover bid…

This was my first book by Aleksandr Voinov and I really liked it :) Although, I'll do a re-read after I finish (get the nerve to actually start reading) Soldiers, I think I'll understand some things better :)

"Henri stood and moved in front of him. Nikolai glanced up from his hands, and there was a whole lot of impressively flat, naked midriff in front of him. He leaned forward, pressed his face into it, and was oddly relieved when Henri ran his fingers through his hair. He did like those touches

Sweeeeet!

If you read this book expecting the gut-wrenching intensity of Special Forces, this book is a whole different beast - it's more like your house pet - but if you're looking for a pick-me-up contemporary romance, which makes you want to strip the next man in a suit you meet, it's for you AND you'll get to see a mature Vadim that you'd love to tend to like that poor waiter in the book.

The story is in the point-of-view of Nikolai and while we got to see his side of the story and know his mo...more

A very fine stand-alone as well as a must-read for established Special Forces fans. I would also nominate this as an excellent first male/male romance book.

Aleksandr Voinov's voice takes on a fresher, lighter tone yet remains sophisticated in this highly enjoyable romance. I've been anxiously awaiting this new look at the next generation of his Special Forces characters. While it's possible that this book was written purely to indulge his fan's wanton pleading, I honestly believe this project...more

I didn't realize how much I missed SF, especially Vadim until I picked up Gold Digger. I really think Mr. Voinov did a great job intertwining both the Nikolai/Henri and the Nikolai/Vadim storylines. In Gold Digger, we get to delve deeper into Nikolai's life. Nikolai is a man who never really fit in with his cut-throat family. He's kind, forgiving, a loyal friend and colleague but he's constantly on the run. He never settles down anywhere or allows himself to get close to anyone. That is until he...more

I always knew I was going to love Gold Digger! I bloody knew it!
And I did, I really really did!

You see - I've been a lost and wondering soul since reading the cult series Special Forces. I have missed all the characters so very much. I have mourned them desperately, so I saved this novella - a spin off for when I knew I really really needed it.

I savoured every decadent and delicious word - just like savouring my fave choccies that get hidden away in my very secret place until my resolve crumbles...more

First off, I must say I'm in love with the cover. So simple yet so...nice. I loved this book. Loved it. It was so refreshing after finishing Special Forces. And short! Not that it's a bad thing, but SF was super long.

I was so happy to see Vadim again. Of course Dan wasn't in the book but eh. I can live without him ;). I loved how Vadim was using his therapy tricks on Nikolai. I kept waiting for him to say "and what is it you don't like about yourself?" like they did before a consultation...more

All right. I've been typing and deleting the first couple of paragraphs of this review for at least half an hour now so I'll just cut to the chase.

The things I loved:

• Vadim. Vadim. Vadim. Vadim. Vadim. I've said it many times already but allow me to say it one more time: I love Vadim to pieces and I will always be grateful to A. Voinov for creating him. This story was worth reading if only for the Vadim parts.

• The premise. The corporate world and men in tailored suits? Sign me up.

• The sex. I...more

I enjoyed the book more than I thought. Nikolai's story fascinated me from the beginning and I couldn't get enough.

Gold Digger is a romance but the settings are amazing. Interesting characters (I like Nikolai's boss and friend Ruslan), sensuality and intrigue – it's plain and simple fascinating! It's a real Voinov, the writing will take you right into the action and you can't stop reading.

The developing relationship between Nikolai and Henri is interesting to read, but the highlights of the boo...more

Nikolai has always considered himself a straight man. Men have made passes at him in the past but he has never been tempted, at least until meeting Henri LeBeau. The only problem was that Henri was a member of the team poised to take over the company that he was trying to save. Henri was never swayed and seemed to have no doubts from the start. That's how he stole my heart. He was so honest and endearing even though he worked for a cut throat organization. Nikolai couldn't deny his attraction to...more

12 Nov 2012: Okay, so having just finished SF, I couldn't resist coming back for a quick skim through of Gold Digger again. So much made sense this time that had me intrigued and wanting more before (still has me WANTING, actually CRAVING more!!!!), but I digress. Something struck me as odd. Why is Dan's name never used? There are multiple opportunities where the terms 'partner' and 'husband' are used, but never Dan. Every other SF character within this book is granted with a name. It actually m...more

I would classify this as one of Voinov's lesser books. It's not bad by any means, it just a little too run-of-the-mill in my opinion.

The biggest gripe that I've is that I couldn't buy the two MCs as a couple. I failed to see even a smidgen of connection between Nikolai and Henri. To say that the romance was rushed would be an understatement. I mean, as a reader, I was told several times that the attraction between the two of them is so palpable and intense that they are ready to make radical ch...more

I can't think of whats not to love about two sweet and let me tell you they BOTH are sweet ; men in smexy business suits. This book is classy and that is my weakness...What a sweet find!

The sweet finding in this book~

Sleepy. Stayed up late finishing this one, so my review may not be the most coherent or even well-written, but here we go.

It's nicely done! It comes from the world of Special Forces, but at the same time, it's very much its own story. I read Deliverance over the summer, and it wasn't nearly as flawless at mentioning characters without actually mentioning them as Gold Digger is. In that book, there were all kinds of weird little gaps that could only be explained by having read Special Forces, but...more

I was wondering for a while whether to give Gold Digger four stars or five. It's a really good story showing a different angle than you usually read about: the corporate world, the politics, the gold mining - and because it's a real Voinov, the different setting isn't just a ruse to make things interesting, it's a real part of the plot. So, it's a great story.
But it didn't shake up my view of the world, wow me to my most inner core, or leave me trembling with pure rapture (and yes, I've read st...more

I LOVED this book, but then I like almost everything Voinov writes, so that's no surprise. LOL

I thought it was sweet, interesting, and genuine. My 2 complaints:

1) It's too short! I want more! (I am greedy!)
2) I wish we had "seen" Henri (view spoiler)[teaching Nikolai how to enjoy his prostate, like he suggested he would be doing (hide spoiler)]. ;-)

I really liked Vadim's role in this book, too. I miss Vadim and Dan, so it was fun to get a little bit of them in this book. You don't HAVE to have r...more

I loved this story which despite the family tensions affecting both Nikolai and Henri and the cut throat reality of the business world has a gentle and healing tone. We have a glimpse of Vadim and his and Nikolai's delicate dance of a father/son relationship. There was a lot of family stuff woven into Nikolai's arc that is very true to the Special Forces back stories (no retcon needed :)). The way Nikolai and Henri's relationship emerges is very true to who Nikolai is and Henri's pursuit tells u...more

4 stars although I’m tempted to add 1 for SF lingering side effects

Gold Digger is a sweet, sensual romance in the middle of a business war.
Henri notices Nicolai who is presenting his corporation in the hope of finding a financial partnership and from then onwards launches a takeover on Nicolai’s body and heart.
His seduction is first purely, splendidly erotic, an affect of all senses, arousing sexual desire and finding chemistry, leading to a sweet, romantic pursuit and very hot encounters.

4.5 stars (4 + extra for giving me more Vadim, which... love Love LOVE!)

I really enjoyed this one. The story was wonderful, well written like I expect from Voinov with great characters. It's much, MUCH, milder than the dark or intense Voinovs that I lust so hard after, which was perfect this time around. As always, I loved the characters, Nikolai being my favorite of the MCs, and true to form Voinov also threw me into wanting to scream at others, this time it was Anya, Nikolai's sister. I would...more

“Holy shit, you're the most accomplished stalker I've ever met."
"It's not stalking if you like it.”

Yeah, keep saying that to yourself, Henri. All joking aside, this was a touching story about enemies finding each other and falling in love-only this time the turf isn't a war-infested country, but boardrooms. Am I disappointed by the change? Yes, a little bit. But, back to the story...

Exquisite and Ravishingly good!

Ohh holy shite! How could I even start describing how I think about this book? Well first of all I devoured it in a couple of hours. It was deliciously good! I love the story and the characters. Aside from the steamy sexy scenes I'm more of the type who loves a good story and this one didn't disappoint! Gitte: My love affair with Mr. Voinov continues in Gold Digger. I do believe wholeheartedly that this man is a genius, his writing completely flawless where each word is diligently written and shown to be important. He is one of the few Authors where I do not feel as if I am reading about the characters with me looking in from the outside, rather I am immersed so completely to the extent of voyeurism. Yes, Mr. Voin...more

I’m a huge fan of Aleksandr Voinov’s Special Forces series. Huge, as in the two heroes, Dan and Vadim are two of my favorite guys. It is super emotional, angsty, violent, and just pure torture to read. And I love to be tortured when I read. So when I heard the author was coming out with a novella featuring Vadim’s son, I became very excited.

Nikolai Krasnorada works for a company that explores and mines gold in Armenia. Nikolai has worked for this company from the beginning and is good friends wi...more

First impressions: After reading other reviews, I'm glad I read this before reading Special Forces, because I didn't have the expectations that others did. It was easy to connect with Nikolai, and I loved his awkward relationship with Vadim.

The romance was GFY instalove, but Henri was likeable and intriguing enough to make me root for their happy ending. I really want to know more about Henri's backstory, especially the dichotomy of his flirty personality and his intellect and business expertise...more

Was pretty interesting to read. I liked how business-y it was.

The MCs were nice and vulnerable. Utterly delicious.

This was a good book.
