Shannon (aka Readergirl)
One of the things I really loved about Shelley's Settling series is the characters. After reading each book now, the thing that really stuck with me was the characterization and the way these characters interact with each other. Each one of them has their own personality, their own quirks, and their dialogue is so natural. It really makes them seem real to me.... so kudos to Shelley for some great characterization, for having created some very sympathetic and memorable characters.

With that in mi...more

After I finished Settling, I knew I had to get my hands on a copy of this. Good thing I have connections in high places (read: thanks Shelley, for getting me a copy!).

Ok, so I ended up devouring this. Like, I read 50% of the story in one go. Which is great, but I ended up going through the story quicker than I thought I would...

Anyway, I thought this was a pretty good story. It wasn't as exciting as I remember the first one to be, nor did I really feel a ton of suspense from this one. The climax...more

Me gustó mucho cómo fue llev...more

My Rating: 4.5/5

Sound was a great way to tie up the Solid trilogy. I loved this trilogy, the characters and the plot. I would be hard pressed to decide which book was my favorite. I enjoyed all three books and think all three worked well to make a great trilogy that told the story of Clio and her friends during the summer they deal with finding out what happened to them well.

The characters continue to be wonderful in this book. Clio continues her struggle to balance wanting her alone time and he...more

After one of the craziest summers Clio will probably ever have she just wants to things to get back to as normal as they can. She has found out that she was genetically altered and has powers, she has made friends who were also altered, found love and help solve a murder case. She managed to throw the friendships and the love she found away. Now before she goes home she wants to set them back to rights. Will she get them back or will she go home alone.

Clio is great for the simple fact she acts...more

The final installment in the Solid series is finally here and, thankfully, it’s a very tidy ending for a series I really enjoyed. I was worried that perhaps not all my questions would be answered, but Workinger did a great job with her conclusion, though the epilogue may leave readers wondering what’s to come… perhaps a spinoff series? I’d like that!

While I would have liked a little more action in this final novel, Sound is more or le...more

Since, I followed this book from the beginning, I couldn't wait to see how it ended. Fast-paced and exciting, Sound is great!

So in this story Clio is struggling with making amends. A lot has happen in the past few months and lots of consequences of the choices she makes are coming back to her. The plot is exciting cause of the loose ends the author is trying up. Lots questions are answered and the future of the group is at stake. I think the plot could have more going on but I felt it did satisf...more

Awww. It's kind of sad to see Clio's story come to an end. This book was more about Clio reconnecting with her friends and accepting how she fits in with those around her than anything else. Yes, there was some mayhem but it was relatively mild -- especially compared to some of the things Clio and the gang have had to deal with previously. This ended up being a nice send off for the super kids.

Now, it had been a while since I read book 2 (close to a year! Whoa!) and while I remembered the charac...more

With Sound, Clio has come full-circle, re-learning how to prioritize things in her life, including how to keep herself from shutting out her friends. Even with a more character-driven focus, and being shorter and slightly less action-packed than I was expecting, Sound was still a great way to end the Solid trilogy.

Still dealing with the repercussions of her kiss with Ford, Clio has been ostracized by most of her friends, leaving her to wallow in self-pity. Luckily for her, she has some great fri...more

A solid conclusion for for the series. I was so excited to finally read this conclusion to very entertaining trilogy. It mostly wrapped things up, mostly. Relationships and friendships are restored and I feel like Clio really grew up and matured by the close of the novel. I did feel a little let down as far as the plot went. There was far less action or mystery or intrigue or suspense than the first two books. Although it did a good job of tying everything up, it seemed lacking compared to the o...more

This is one of the series that I was really excited about. The first book was OK with typical characters, but the second book topped my expectations and came off much better. So I was expecting a lot from book three, and I think that I got what I bargained for.
Might contain minor spoilers if you have not read Solid and Settling (my reviews here)...
Clio managed to lose all her friends and her love during the course of one year in the camp. But now, things almost start looking up, and her abilit...more

Sound is the third and final book of the Solid Trilogy by Shelley Workinger. The journey of Clio Kaid is coming to an end, and I have to admit I'm a little sad. In the first book, Solid, we found out about Clio's power and her struggle with it. The second book, Settling, is full of tension and growing pains. In the final book, Sound, Clio must own up to her mistakes and learn to trust herself. The beginning of the book is sorta rocky because Clio has some apologizing to do, as well as forgiving....more

From my blog, Booklopedia.

Sound continues several weeks after the end of Settling, in which A LOT of stuff happened. The protagonist, Clio, is still at the camp that she was put in for a couple weeks, but eventually became a whole summer camp, and now they have extended it to become a whole year thing in order to fully develop and analyze the powers that the special kids like Clio seem to have.

Even though everything seems fine since Clio and her gang of friends have been able to get rid of two...more

After the events in ‘Settling’, I wasn’t sure how things were ever going to work out for Clio. She’d discovered the truth behind a conspiracy and stopped a killer. She’d also made some secret discoveries about her abilities and made a huge mistake, both of which cost her friends and her relationship with Jack. Plus, it cost Jack his memory. Now in ‘Sound’, Clio is trying to make up for her mistakes. Yet, everything is not as it seems with the people in charge of the compound. Can Clio make up wi...more

I must say Shelley wrote one heck of a series. I devoured each book and longed for more. Sound is a great ending to her series and she has made a fan out of me for life. Sound, like the rest of the series, was so hard to put down. Her characters are so relatable and full of layers.

Clio is living with the consequence of her actions from book two at the start of Sound. Her friendships have become fractured and she doesn't know how to fix it. Rae, Xavier, and Alexis are her only source of comfort....more

What a perfect conclusion to the Solid series! I really enjoyed book one, Solid, and book two, Settling, but I think that Sound was my favorite out of the series. It was a close race, though: all three books were great reads in their own right. Not to mention the fact that Workinger provides a descriptive summary at the beginning of each book, thus enabling readers who are new to the series a way to jump right in. I would definitely recommend reading all three books, and reading them in order,...more

In less words: Although quite disappointing considering how unbearably long the wait for this third installment was, particularly in the plot arena, it was pretty much impossible to withhold myself from the fun and general comfort this book brings, very much like it’s predecessors. As soon as I entered into the book, I felt a warmth that comes from welcome and familiarity and the joy of a reunion with some of my favorite characters. Not everyone can enjoy this series, and not every fan will be h...more

My Review: I've loved this trilogy from the start, and Sound is no exception. I loved everything about this book.

Sound is the third and concluding book in the Solid series, and I am sad to see it end. I love the characters in this series. Clio and her friends, new and old, are a fun group to read about. Each person is unique, and each person is real and relatable. Some of the craziest things happen to Clio and her friends, and I love that they acknowledged that it was crazy that these things wer...more

To summarize: Overall, Sound was a satisfying conclusion to a fantastic series, one that I will miss! (Let's get a petition going for a sequel series, people!) Clio has really matured as a character, acknowledging her flaws and gaining control over her abilities. It was a pleasure to read along as her journey unfolded. I would have loved more action, and more of a thrilling climax to end the series with, but again,...more

The Solid books are always enjoyable reads that you can fly through fairly easily, and Sound is no exception. I really enjoy the “super powers” aspect, especially when it started off with a government conspiracy, and that aspect of the tale remains interesting. Where Sound is successful is in the great group dynamic that’s at play. There are all these different characters, but you feel like you get to know each of them because of their distinct personalities and abilities.

Clio is the main charac...more

The conclusion to the Solid series is a fast paced and interesting end to the lovey world inhabited by Clio Kaid and her fellow mutants. I use the word “mutant” loosely because this isn’t a true genetic mutation born of evolution, but rather an intentionally scientifically engineered one that I still want to know more about. Luckily, the door is left open to get more information down the line, and I’m almost as excited as Clio would be.

In the previous novel, Clio made a series of questionable de...more

I have been a fan of the Solid series since the first chapter of the first book. The series has an interesting premise, the army conducted experiments on pregnant woman and the now teenage children born of those experiments are living on a military base and are each discovering what those experiments did to them. In this third installment in the series, the teens are faced with more uncertainty for their future. Will they stay at the base or return to their homes? Will the army ever learn exactl...more

I adore the Solid series by Shelley Workinger, so I’m naturally sad to see it end, but if that epilogue is any indicator, there’s still more to be told.

The Solid series has followed Clio Kaid, one of one-hundred children with super-abilities who have been called to a top-secret Army base for research. In Solid and Settling, Clio and her friends find themselves having to fight for their lives. This book is a bit different. Sure, there is a showdown of sorts, but this is more of an emotional journ...more

Well we have come to the end of the solid trilogy by Shelley Workinger with the final installment sound. Here we pick up where Settling left off with Clio Kaid having to take responsibility for the choices she made. Her friendships have become a mess and she has no clue how to fix them. after an end of summer outing things get even more interesting for cilo.

all in all a good ending to the series. I enjoyed all three books and felt this was a great conclusion to the series. I would definitely rec...more

I've been with the series since the release of the first novel. I was happy to be asked to participate in the tour for the final book. Sound was a great ending to a trilogy I've really enjoyed.

I was hoping that Clio would get some redemption in this book. I never felt like she deserved all that happened to her in the 2nd book. Sure she made some poor choices. But as teenagers typically do, they all overacted. I was happy to see that her friends just needed some time to cool off and realized th...more

Clio and friends - including those with whom she must make amends - are still at camp, finishing up the summer, and hoping to stay for the entire school year. There are still questions to be answered about their abilities, and some might have plans for their abilities - given the opportunity to control them.

I still love the premise of this series. Sadly, I'm disappointed in this "conclusion." It doesn't feel like a conclusion to me at all, but rather just another hiccup in all the research they'...more

Great (maybe) ending to this series. :) Clean. No full on review for this book because I've got so many going on and this was sort of an in between sneaker book. I really wanted to read this book even though I probably didn't have time to do it. I just couldn't help myself. The last book of the series is always a draw. I'm a girl that likes resolution and while this book didn't tie everything up in a box with a pretty bow, it did give enough resolution to satisfy me. This was a fun book.

I’m a big fan of Shelley and the Solid series. I hate to see it come to an end (Is it the end? ☺), but I think she did a great job wrapping things up. There is always a good mix of drama, action, and humor in each of Shelley’s novels and she does a great job portraying the lives of the extraordinary teens. I love the way she incorporates Clio’s song in with the story—how she is finally “found.” They have all overcome a lot and they have the world at their fingertips as they embark on their adult...more

This was a quick read & a nice ending to a series that I have really enjoyed! Clio & the gang are a fun bunch and I am going to miss them. It was great to see Clio make up with her friends and still continue to "solve the mystery." After book 2 I was so mad at Clio, but I am glad she fixed things and I got to understand why she did what she did. I was so glad to have her & Jack make up, I missed them together, it's probably good that Jack doesn't remember what happened & they can...more
