Once Upon... 1001 Stories
by
Lila Prap
This book starts out traditionally, but after that...watch out! There's nothing usual about what happens when favorite fairy tales are put together in a book, and the reader is asked to decide what happens next. It's an entertaining and exciting adventure through the intermingled paths of a fairy tale maze.

I love Prap's artwork and her take on traditional fairy tales is unique and fun. At first, I thought it was a choose-your-own adventure style book. And while it has some of those elements, like turn to page -- to find out what happens, it is really more about allowing the reader to choose the plot of the story.

I am kind of bummed that Goodreads does not have the cover for this one. My kids like the illustrations on this one. This book is like a "choose your own adventure" for the picture book set. It combines classic fairy tales, but puts a spin on it by letting the reader choose what they want to hear about next. So in one story you may hit Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding hood, and Snow White. My 6 year old enjoyed the story, but my 4 year old had a hard time following what was going on. Definit...more

This book combines many of the traditional fairy tales. The book gives choices and the reader decides where the book goes.
The reader is in control of telling this story. On each page there are choices to turn to different pages for the rest of the story. The simple choices lead the reader to different story possibilites. This interactive book invites every reader to interact with the stories. The commonly known characters make the stories recognizable to the reader but the book changes things a...more

This book was originally published in Slovenia in 2005. It is a twist on the fairy tales so many of us know and love. Prap allows the reader to decide which way the book will go. On each page is a snippet of a story followed by two options for the reader to choose from. This interactive book is a great introduction to international children's literature.
