Pure & Sinful was my first book by Killian McRae and I was pleasantly surprised. This paranormal story made definitely very original, exciting and thrilling read for me. Pure & Sinful offers a mixture of witches, Greek mythology, religion, archangels, Satan and his demons. And this mixture really worked for me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book. I could not put it down and I cannot wait for sequel since ending did not satisfy me at all.

I absolutely love stories about forbidden love and well known saying „the forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest“ was proven again in this book. I liked most of the characters, they were unique and perfectly depicted. But I could not connect with them completely, especially with Riona. I did not like about her the fact that she had strong romantic feelings for more than one person at the same time. It made her look quite un-respect-worthy in my eyes. On the other side, I really liked Father Marcello Angelatti. Even though he could be really sarcastic, he was very interesting character and he always put needs of other people beyond his own. Overall, story has various unexpected twists and I am really curious how things will develop in second book.

Author used descriptive style of writing with various original (and sometimes even funny) adjectives which were never over-the-top. I really enjoyed this book and I would like to share with you some of the most interesting quotes:

“It is sin to feel powerless despite your own abilities. God hates it when he gives you all the tools to accomplish a job, but all you do is focus on how hard the work is so you never get started.”

And another one with description of God:

“The one you are reffering to is more a silent partner. He provides the capital: the Earth and the heavens and air, than leaves it up to all of us smaller folks to pilot and ride.”

In "Pure & Sinful", we follow a trio of demon hunters; a witch Riona Dade, a demi-god Dee, and a priest Marc. They go from mission to mission to rid the world of bad guys while dealing with their personal feelings. The witch and the priest are into each other and the demi-god tries to prevent them from dooming themselves.
The archangel overlooking their work warn them that if anything sexual was to happen between the two of them, the priest's soul will go to hell, since sex is a sin for a Catholic man of the cloth, and will be turn into a demon by Lucifer. Plus, they are Pure Souls; which means he might become a powerful demon. The higher the fall, the worse he'll be. And if the witch turns the priest to sin, she'll screw with the higher order. She'll be doomed as well.
The worst? Of course, they have to fall in love...

Basically, there's not a lot going on. The action is not that impressive. I spent the entire time reading about missed opportunities between the two of them or the witch and her lesbian girlfriend. Yeah, Riona is bisexual. You get why Marc, the priest, falls in love with Riona but you don't really get the same understanding from Riona's POV. She's attracted to him, intrigued by him but it was not convincing.
Besides that, Jerry, a demon. is in love with Riona and tries to help them in their conflict with Lucifer. The devil wants Riona and Marc to sin so he can have their souls. The plot is good but it leaves you wanting more. It's a good thing but at the same time, it's a little lacking and easy.

Personally, I had a good enough time reading "Pure & Sinful". Riona is witty, feisty and strong. Marc and Dee are nice decent guys. I like these characters, but you're mostly frustrated because the hot and steamy scenes, as engaging as they are, always fall short. And I hate when that happens...all the time.

The main thing to remember is that, no matter my mixed feelings about this book, I was invested in it and enjoyed it anyway. At the end, I was eager to read what would be next.

I must first say that Ms. McRae knows how to write. So fantastically, at that. There’s the perfect mix of wit, humor, and STEAM! Hello, hot demons (loved Jerry right away!). Hello, hot priest? Wait, what?! Yep, you heard it – hot priest. And smoking chemistry between our main chick, Riona and hot priest, Marcello (Marc). Love the push and pull of their relationship and the evolution it takes. Gloriously well done…but with a twist. Shit, there were twists. I caught on to quite a few early on, but there were also a couple things that I anticipated happening that didn’t. So good work to Killian for keeping me on my toes! Back to the wit – there’s some freaking hilarious moments in here. I loved the mix of heavy and light. Case in point:

The characters are so well developed and I loved them all. You were able to connect with them individually but also connect with the relationships they had with one another. I loved that every relationship was unique. This was not a cookie cutter type of story at all. I will say, though, that it does suck you in, immediately, and then keeps your attention through all the fast paced action and drama and lust, and at the end, you’re left scratching your head and wishing you had the next book to see where the hell (for real), this was all going to go! I don’t want to go into the actual story too much, because it’s not my style. I think books should be experienced firsthand by the reader so you can form your own opinions. I just simply like to share my highlights and hope to encourage you to read books I’ve loved. This is definitely one of them. So much.

I give this book 4.5 stars and recommend to anyone looking for a fast-paced, well-developed paranormal story with all the great boxes checked: brilliant storyline, witty writing and enough passion and steam to choke a horse…er Lucifer. I am so grateful for the opportunity to read this in advance for Killian and have extremely high expectations for the other two books in this trilogy! I cannot wait to see what happens next because it really was just the perfect ending. You’re left satisfied…but still wanting more. That’s perfection right there.(less)

Seriously, they do! And they do a whole lot more. I wasn't expecting to like this book. This isn't my preferred genre. However, like most times, I am pleased I stepped out of my norm of reading and have been pleased. Riona, a take no prisoners, kick-ass spitfire. A Priest, A witch and a Demi God = A Demon hunting trio...

Riona is attractive to everyone that seems to come in contact with her.She has Demons and Priests in love with her, Women after her, a Demi God, and even an Arch Angel wants to do her. Lucifer himself wants her of the worst. Despite all of this, the girl cannot get much satisfaction. To be in love with a priest and fellow demon hunter when acting on it will damn you to Hell and wreak havoc on the world.

As a Pure Soul, it's her duty to defend humanity against the temptations wrought by evil intentions. As a woman, she didn't care if she or Marc or both of them would be damned, she wanted him. During the whole book if they are not fighting feelings and lust for each other,they are busy fighting Lucifer and Demons. One Demon in particular that happens to be her ex.

"You know you're good. You're a demon. Sexual gratification is part of your damned repertoire. Next to the deflowering of virgins and stealing socks out of dryers, it's just the thing you do."

This was a fun witty, and fast paced read. The references to pop culture are fun and creative. The One thing that will stick out and may turn many away from this book or even from finishing it is the fact that there is a lot of religious refrences and information. It's a bit overwhelming to say the least.But if that doesnt bother you and it sure didnt me I can bet this will be as good a read for anyone who likes/loves PNR as much as I do.But it is definitely a unique and creative book with some comedic flair.

What a fantastic read!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this one. Honestly, the idea of a romance with a hot priest sounded a little bit cheesy to me. Boy, was I wrong! This book is clever and funny, has a great plot that moves along nicely, has an interesting cast of characters and I did not want to put it down.

What an opening line. And it only gets better from there. The descriptions in this book are hilarious and I can only imagine that the author keeps a notebook full of obscure and witty metaphors at the ready while writing. This one made me laugh out loud:

The premise of this book is something completely original to me. I've read about angels and demons before, but nothing like this. Pure Souls are basically Gods warriors that protect the earth from Lucifer and his demons. Heaven and Hell and all their players (demons, angels, Lucifer, God, etc) are a big part of the world-building here but so, too, are Mount Olympus and characters from Greek mythology. One would think that these two belief systems are mutually exclusive but not so! The ideas of free-will and personal morality are dealt with in a way that ties everything together pretty seamlessly.

The characters here are amazing. Each and every one, from the three main characters to Jerry the demon, has their own unique personality in this book. There are no stereotypes. They are each strong in their own ways and yet flawed. They each have unique characteristics and really read like real people, albeit people in much more extreme situations than you or I.

The plot moves along at a great pace. There's action and then some "down time" where things are explained and the plot is advanced. I was never bored and, in fact, found it very hard to put this one down. The plotline seemed original and I was never quite sure what was going to happen next. All to often I find that I can predict what's going to happen next. Not here. I was pleasantly entertained throughout and had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next.

Much is made of the romance between Riona and Marc (the priest) and there are even notes on this book's description that it is for mature adults only. I don't want that to scare you away! While their attraction to each other is a major plot point here, this is not erotica. Yes, there are some steamy scenes. Yes, they are of an adult nature. BUT, they are not every other page and they are not sleezy scenes. This is not a book of sex linked with a few scenes of plot. I was happy to find that it is quite the other way around.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking for an original voice, and especially fans of Paranormal and Paranormal Romance. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series!(less)

Killian McRae, You did it again.
I'd give this wonderful ARC from Netgalley a major 100 on 5 seriously!Okay okay 5 stars for this RIVETING, MAGICAL, FUNNy, BRILLIANT, SMART, SENSUAL andi dont care who doesnt agree, ORIGINAL work.
Killian took a an over worked and pathetically repeated, never satisfying, always lame TOPIC and knocked this ball beyond the ball park.

Oh, how I loved this book...let me count some of the ways:

1. The feel of the trio of Pure Souls reminded me of classic Buffy, Xander, & Willow...funny, energetic banter with just the right amount of sarcasm.

2. Forbidden fruit sexual attraction and tension that would make Meg & Father de Bricassart blush.

3. Jerry the Demon likes Zimas and he's awesome.

4. Angels, Lucifer, and religious loopholes, oh my!

I'm not quite sure what to say about Pure & Sinful by Killian McRae. The novel was not terrible by any means. It had an interesting plot, really different ideas and views, and pretty cool characters but for me something was a bit off.

This is a truly fun romp on the sexy side of demon hunter drama. It has all the sensual sizzle of some of it's more hard core counterparts; but just enough camp and humor to let you know that at least a few of the players involved don't take themselves too seriously/

This took me a minute to get into....but it was so worth it!! It is such a page turner. I am a mathematician so I thought it was so cool that Riona is a Statistician by day but the Keystone by night. The Keystone is a magical being that draws from her pillars. Her pillars are two hot guys!! One is a demi-god, son of Zeus, named Dee. The other pillar is an untouchable priest, Marc.

I’ve always loved reading witty banters and sarcastic wisecracks. Let’s just say that this book has caught my tickle spot and has made me look like a loony by making me chuckle at odd intervals while I was inside a very public and very crowded café. I expected this book to be an erotica because of the title and the brief synopsis. Don’t ask why. I just assumed. So imagine the surprise I got when I started reading the book and discovered that it was more than what I thought it would be! And let me just say that the surprise was the pleasant kind.

The best thing about this book? Definitely the jarring puns! I just love the deprecating humor used in this novel, coupled with innuendos and references! The humorous puns range from Captain Kirk of Star Trek, to the cup-size of a Kardashian, even up to Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga!

The characters are all endearing in their own ways, too. You just don’t see a witch, a priest and a demi-god joining forces to fight demons everyday! And one other character worthy of mention is Jerry because he’s one cunning bastard. That is all I have to say about the characters because I’m afraid that I might give any spoilers.

If I could describe this novel in one catch-all sentence, I would say that this is like an R-18 version of Charmed meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer on crack. Basically, it’s the Charmed’s triumvirate combined with Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s kick-ass heroine, plus the complicated love line.

Would I want to read this novel again? Definitely! Would I watch out for the next installment if there is one? Abso-fucking-lutely! I highly recommend this book to readers who would like a chuckle or two, and who appreciate unbridled sarcasm from smartass characters.(less)

I enjoyed this paranormal romance. It sucks you in from the start, which is why I finished it in two evenings. My biggest problem was trying to decide which character to like the most, and which man to root for…Marc, Jerry, Marc, Jerry...who to choose, who to choose. Not to mention there are other options for eye candy as well.

I haven't been this excited about a book in a long while. Pure & Sinful is clever, new, and a total breath of fresh air. As Killian's critique partner, I feel so very lucky to have been able to read this story early on.

This book was a mess from the beginning. Pure & Sinful started out as though it was in the middle of the story instead of the beginning. You were just thrown in to the ring with nothing to go by. I love the heroine, the men are delicious, the dialogue funny and entertaining and though the smexy is sparse, the steam factor was hot enough to get me breathing shallow from anticipation. Omg! Shit just got super butt ass complicated at the end and it was a damn cliffhanger to boot! WTF? Where is the next book?
Omg I was not expecting the story to be as awesome as it was, but of course I was completely in love as it kept going. I ended up reading it straight through.

It seems Riona had a relationship with a fallen demon named Jerry, who spends most of the book trying to warn her of Lucifer's machinations. Jerry has fallen in love with Riona, and knows that Lucifer is planning on using her growing love for Father Marc, and his for her against them.

The book spends most of the time having Riona and Marc learn that their specific moral compasses and relationship in the group would damn them both to hell of they gave into their growing love for each other and consummated the relationship. There is also a new neighbor by the name of Lucy, who is tempting Riona. Every time they are close to getting intimate, something pulls one of the other away. Which doesn't make any sense to me. Lucy aka Lucifer gets pulled away from having sex with Riona, because he gets a call letting him know the Jerry has broken away to the human world in an attempt to warn Riona. But since he's with her, I don't know why he's allow himself to be pulled away. The best way to attached to Riona, emotionally that is, is to have sex with her. Then why leave to basically reprimand Jerry? Makes no sense.

Also, when Marc dies after the back and forth of, I can't let you, but I can't let you sacrifice yourself between Marc and Riona, he's dead and we realize that Jerry is actually the first fallen Keystone, Gaius Gallicus, who is brought back in Marc's body.

This story was all over the place. Who is Riona's father? What is this dagger all about? Why is Gaisu permitted to come back? What about love winning out and why did Marc decide to damn his soul by sleeping with Riona, when he was told what would happen to both of them, if they did? I just didn't get it. I though the story was slow and where it could have been interesting, that story was basically dropped. The premise was interesting, but just didn't work in execution.

Full of twists, turns and humor, Pure and Sinful hooked me in at the first page and rarely loosened its grip. Combining angels, demons, priests and humans, adding a touch of F/F sexual activity and plenty of other steamy sexual and sensual scenes, top it all with snark and a compelling series of events and you have scratched the surface of this book.

First off I have to say the beginning of the book had me laughing out loud as the author demonstrates her sense of humour by starting off with the line "a priest, a witch and a demigod walk into a bar." Right off the bat I knew this was going to be a different paranormal book and it was.

I was instantly drawn to the idea of a tough, alpha, sexy priest fighting beside a witch and a demigod against the forces of evil and Satan himself. The thing I kept wondering was how long would it take before temptation would grip Riona and Marc and lead them to their fall. Oh and I cannot forget the deliciously handsome and talented demon Jerry thrown into the mix. There were times I didn't know who I wanted Riona to end up with, but she too didn't know which she desired more.

The only thing that bothered me about the story was Riona herself. She would state that she had the hots for one person and in the next scene she is getting hot and heavy with someone else, whether it was with the priest, Jerry the demon or her sexy female neighbour. She would state her deep feelings for someone and in the next breath her libido is in overdrive and she is making out with someone else. I just didn't feel her feelings were sincere or strongly developed.

The story had lots happening in terms of the twists and turns that occurred and despite my feelings for Riona I really want to know what is going to happening next and who is going to win her heart. Unfortunately the ending leaves the reader with a slight cliffhanger where you feel like saying "oh you can't leave me wondering like this" but it does. With Satan playing a game and pulling strings to lead himself to the ultimate victory, I personally can't wait to see what happens in book 2 and how Riona will face off with him.

I highly recommend this book to paranormal romance fans who enjoy snarky comments, humourous lines and cliches and most of all delicious hunks who would sacrifice everything, even their own lives, to prove their love for the woman that sets them of fire.

The characters in Pure & Sinful were good, but I would not say that they were memorable. I liked them but there was nothing about them that made me go wow. Our main gal Riona is very spunky and the kind of character that can take care of herself. However she has the tendency to be annoying. Another character who annoyed me was Marc. Marc here is our forbidden love interest. I found it very hard to see what Riona saw in him, because all he did was make me crazy. Okay that is a bit of a lie, I saw what Riona liked in him, but for me he just still made me crazy despite that. My two favorite characters were Jerry and Ramiel. Both of them were just simply funny and had a very witty attitude. They also seemed the most real to me, which is funny because neither are human.

The plot in Pure & Sinful was very intriguing with numerous twists and turns. However, I also found it confusing at moments. There were times when it was hard to follow where it was going or why it was going there. The story does come together and everything does make sense, but there were moments I had to re-read in order to process. The book is written in the third person and we all know I really enjoy this writing style. The writing style allowed me to understand each and every character and to really see where they were coming from. However, it was sometimes confusing following the switch from one character to the next.

My biggest complaint with this book is that I felt all roads led to sex. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy steamy scenes as much as anyone else, but I felt a bit overwhelmed with this one. Not because they were overly descriptive (I’ve read much more descriptive) but because I felt like 90% of conversations somehow led to an innuendo, a steamy make out session, or someone taking their clothes off. It was just everywhere and I thought it didn’t need to be everywhere. The story and plot would have been good without any of it.

One aspect I did enjoy immensely was the blurring of moral lines within the story. I liked how a sin for one person may not be a sin for someone else. It shows how morality can be subjective. I liked that sin was the undertone for the book and how one action can change everything forever and also that sacrifice is sometimes necessary. It wasn’t a particularly happy book, but that made me like it more.

All in all Pure & Sinful was an enjoyable read with a very Thornbirds feel to it. It is good, but not a favorite for me. Despite my complaints, I did enjoy this book and I do plan on reading the sequel.

I was pulled into this book from the very first sentence! What an excellent start for any book, a laugh, and there was plenty more along the way. There’s a touch of F/F action in here, but nothing that intense. It’s actually a very sensual touch that gives off the feeling of giving in to temptation. Lots of fun, excitement, action, adventure and much more to be had within these pages; any paranormal reader out there will love Pure & Sinful!

Pure & Sinful had me hooked straight away especially with the opening line. With Demons, Witches, Demigods and Priests what more could you ask for. I really liked Riona’s character she was a pure soul along with Dee the demigod and Marc the priest but Riona’s boundaries for sins are a little different from Father Marc Angeletti, who’s boundaries are very strict.
