I liked this one even more than the first. I think the setting was what did it for me. I loved being transported to the rain forest and seeing it through the eyes of children. I am more determined than ever to try a zip-line through the rain forest now.

The mystery was a challenge and had plenty of action. I don't tend to read mysteries that often, but am very glad that I was able to snag this one on Netgalley.

Wow!!!! I absolutely loved this book! Living in dreary Ohio, it was wonderful to be transported off to tropical Costa Rica. The unique and extremely intelligent characters lead the reader on a great adventure to solve the mystery of the missing Jaguar Cup. I also enjoyed learning about all the cool creatures of the rainforest. Thanks, Kate Messner for another awesome mystery!!!

If you're looking for an action packed jungle adventure dripping with mystery then Kate Messner's second additon to her Capture the Flag series is just the book! José, Anna, and Henry travel to the rainforests of Costa Rica to find the Silver Jaguar Society's treasured Jaguar Cup. Great characters and lots of action will keep readers hooked to end...and anxiously awaiting the next installment!

The junior members of the Silver Jaguar Society, Anna, Henry, and Jose, have barely caught their breaths from their earlier adventure in rescuing the flag that inspired the national anthem when they head to Costa Rica. While their caregivers try to figure out what has happened to the real Jaguar Cup, the three do their best to solve the mystery too. They are joined by Sofia, a machete-wielding local girl, and quickly find plenty of suspects that may or may not be involved in a group called the S...more

Anna, Henry and Jose and their parents go to a reception at the White House to recognize them for saving the day in Capture the Flag. While there, they see an exhibit on Pre-Colombian god that includes an artifact from the Silver Jaguar Society-- a gold chalice used in ritual initiation that has been lost for 500 years. The only problem? It's a fake. The parents decide to take off for Costa Rica to investigate, and bring the kids with them. They stay at an eco lodge with another Jaguar Society p...more

Fun adventure through the rain forests of Costa Rica. We follow junior Jaguar Society members Jose,Anna and Henry as well as their parental counterparts, into the wild tropic rain forests to find a missing artifact that has been switched with a fake. The great part about this book is not the secret society preserving the world's treasures from the bad guys and the kids who magically bring down said bad guys but the boatload of knowledge shared about the rain forest and all it's flora and fauna. A...more

Kate Messner is such a diverse writer. Hide and Seek is the follow-up to Capture the Flag. This time, we see the events transpiring more through the eyes of Jose, even though it is still done in 3rd person. The setting takes all the main characters to the rain forests of Costa Rica, a perfect setting for the action and adventure that takes place in this book. Good guys, bad guys, trying to recover important artifacts for the Silver Jaguar Society - what's not to like? I especially enjoy the auth...more

I really enjoyed this follow up to Capture the Flag. Our kid heroes are back, each using their gifts (and overcoming their weaknesses) to help solve a new mystery - this time the stolen artifact is in Costa Rica, and they have to go find it. I loved the setting - rich in sensory details and description. I also liked the use of the blue morpho butterfly metaphor that helps solve the crime. There are lots of opportunities to pick out foreshadowing and make prections. The author's note in the back...more

There is more fun and excitement in store for Anna, Jose, and Henry! Our three heroes are just recovering from their last adventure ("Capture the Flag") when they are called to Costa Rica to find the stolen golden cup of their organization, the Silver Jaguar Society. As they pursue the thief, they encounter poisonous snakes, stinging ants (and beautiful birds too!). Jose in particular is the main character of this installment in Kate Messner's new adventure series, and he must learn to conquer h...more

Hide and Seek by Kate Messner - I enjoyed the adventure in Costa Rica that Kate Messner brings the reader through- pretty fantastic. Such a great mystery and storyline. Costa Rica is quite the place to adventure with a book. It provides the perfect high anxiety chases as well. Excellent mystery and development of the story as well. I enjoyed being introduced to many suspicious characters and interesting twists throughout the book. I know readers will love this sequel! (It is also quite the stand...more

The trio from Capture the Flag are reunited and joined by Sophia, the daughter of their Costa Rican host. A valuable artifact has been stolen. Of course, the parents are away chasing a red herring, leaving the kids relatively unattended to track down clues and observe suspects at a rain forest hotel. Jose takes the spotlight in this one, leaving Anna and Henry a bit idle and me looking forward to seeing how Henry handles a case. He cracks me up.

Kate Messner scores again with the second installment in her Silver Jaguar Society series. This time the Society's junior members, José, Henry, and Anna are off to Costa Rica to help save the Society's treasured Jaguar Cup. Lots of chapter ending cliff hangers await the reader as the kids try to outwit the bad guys in the jungle setting that includes venomous snakes, daunting ravine bridges, and zip lines. I love how the setting in this one presents its own challenges as the story evolves. Messn...more

This fun, fast-paced adventure works as a companion to CAPTURE THE FLAG or a stand-alone. This time around, the young sleuths/junior members of the Silver Jaguar Society, go to Costa Rica, where they encounter ancient cultures, natural wonders, and some bad guys they need to outsmart. Messner does a good job with setting and character motivation as well as a riveting plot.

This is a great mystery by Kate messner! I am so glad that she has wrote a second and I've heard a third also. Capture the flag was the first and they are both creative adventures with the same three kids Anna, Jose, and Henry. In this book a famous gold cup part if the silver jaguar society that their parents are in and they help out too. It's stolen and replaced so they go to Costa Rica to try to find it. I would recommend reading this when it comes out because I know I got my hands on it a li...more

I liked it, but not nearly as much as the first book. I can't wait to hear what my students think of it!

Ahhhhh, I like this book SO MUCH! I was really worried after I didn't love CAPTURE THE FLAG, but the mystery here is solid, the setting is rad, and the characters are awesome.

Awesome follow up to Capture the Flag. The readers will love the adventures...

I love this new book by Kate Messner! After reading Capture the Flag by Kate Messner, I knew I had to read this one. I like how this book has the same characters as Capture the Flag and new mystery, but students don't have to read Capture the Flag in order to understand the story. I think my students will enjoy reading about a mystery taking place in another country - Costa Rica. I found the book to be fast-paced and easy to follow. I'm excited to be able to add it to my library shortly!

I absolutely love Kate Messner's books and writing style! They're intelligent and descriptive with realistic characters and interesting plots, and written really well for a younger middle grades audience. HIDE AND SEEK is a satisfying sequel to CAPTURE THE FLAG; although I'm not sure I actually want to visit a rainforest myself anymore - there are some creepy creatures. I hope there are many more books to come in this series of mysteries, heists, and secret societies.
Margaret
I loved this sequel to Capture the Flag. I hope Kate Messner continues this series!
