A second chance born in fire…

The Elect, Book 2

A hidden group of people who are the next stage in evolution has fascinated sci-fi fans in properties from X-Men to Heroes. But these novellas do little to develop characters along with the world-building. The insta-mate trope appears immediately, with alpha males who find protecting their female mates biologically necessary. This story was less entertaining to me than the first book in the series. Zach is an Elect and a scientist. Mallory is his human wife but they have been separated for the last three years. She is connected to the Elect because her father and brothers are Elect. She ended up receiving the ordinary human genes from her human mother.

What struck me as strange in this book was that she has the power to initiate fires.....I mean spontaneous combustion, just by thinking about it, and to control the si

I did not read the series, so I'm rating this as strictly a stand alone type novel. Especially since this is the only novel in the series to appeal to me what so ever.

I didn't mind the novel, there was some blank spots and loose ends. I found it really weird dealing with a male that was so dominant and possessive that he tried to control the females every move.

I felt as if the story was incomplete. Even series need to complete the characters and their story properly before moving on to another b

As a native of the South, is it any wonder Loribelle has a love of storytelling? She started writing seriously as a teenager and finished her first manuscript, a mystery, when she was nineteen. After a few bumps along the way and stints as an Army MP, a waitress, a book store manager, a student, and a wedding photographer, she turned to writing full time. Now she divides her time between a husband ...more
