A Political Affair isn't Fifty Shades of Red, White, and Blue, but it is a love story with spice and political intrigue. Stephen McEvoy never expected to fill his father’s U.S. Senate seat at such a young age—or to fight to keep it. When clever Anne Norwood interns in his office, Stephen dismisses her as another pretty face—until her independent streak catches his attentio...more

A Political Affair is a fast-paced, thrilling, West Wing style drama. The outcome? Sexy Senator Stephen McEvoy is bamboozled by the young, witty and intelligent intern Anne Norwood and therein lies the problem. Cue sexual tension, some oozing thick intellectual substance and A Political Affair is a stand out fiction.

It’s election year and Senator McEvoy’s biggest rival is Dan Langford. With his sisters Patty and Megan working at his side, the McEvoy dynasty will pull out all the stops; Senator...more

I was very lucky to have received an early copy of A Political Affair via ARC.

I wished Goodreads had the option of half ratings as I would have given A Political Affair 4.5 but as they don't I'm giving it 5 stars.

Living in Australia I'm not very knowledgeable with the American political world but Whitney has such a gift with words she made it easy to follow and the mixing of politics and romance was a real turn on.

The Senator had me swooning from the very beginning, he's charismatic, smart, goo...more

"And what are your intentions?" she asked with a smile and an arched brow.

He took the basketball and tossed it on the ground. Wrapping his arms around her, he smiled. "Well, they're good, I assure you, but I can't say they're pure."

This quote sums up this book for me. A Political Affair is the story of two people--A U.S. Senator, Stephen McEvoy, and his intern, Anne Norwood--who fall in love under challenging and potentially scandalous circumstances. As they (and their politically active and ast...more

I thoroughly enjoyed, A Political Affair, by Mary Whitney.

When a newly appointed senator's world collides with his young, and beautiful intern, forbidden longings and undeniable attractions surface between them.

With a grueling re-election campaign ahead of him, the senator's relentless opponent scrutinizes his every move, just waiting for a slip up or faux pas.

Being caught having an affair with a young intern would likely be a mortal blow to his future in the Senate.

Whitney weaves the delicat...more

A Political Affair by Mary Whitney

Rating 4****

This book was provided free from the author in exchange for honest literary review.

Anne Norwood embarked on her political career as an intern in the office of one of Washington's most powerful senators. While often taking criticism for straying from the views of her family, Anne learned early on to find her own way and stick to her path. What she never expected to find in Washington was love.
Stephen McEvoy enjoys his life as a rogue senator. He lov...more

I received an email from a publicist for The Writer's Coffee Shop asking if I would be interested in reading this novel about two people finding each other during an election season. Now mind you I was approached just as our own election season was reaching the end and I wasn't sure if I really wanted to deal with more about politics.. I'm glad I said "Yes" and even happier that I got the chance to read this plus support it.

Stephen McEvoy is the only member of an extremely close political family...more

A Political Affair is the story of two people: Democratic U.S. Senator, Stephen McEvoy, and his intern, Anne Norwood, who fall in love under challenging and potentially scandalous circumstances.

Born into a political family dynasty, Senator Stephen McEvoy was groomed for the political life, but no one expected him to lead so soon, least of all him. After his father's sudden death, he's appointed to fill his seat. Now he must win a tough re-election against a conservative opponent.

Though Stephen i...more

I could not have read this book at a better time--for sure! A political book during a very busy election year! And this book does not disappoint--in so many ways. I honestly think I can say that there is something for everyone in this book, and I feel it will appeal to many different kinds of readers.

I will admit, I am a sucker for a sweet romance, and I loved the romance between Stephen and Anne. I am so glad that we did not follow this couple into the bedroom, and although their morals aren't...more

Stephen McEvoy is a young Senator that tries to be re-elected after his dad pass away. The whole family is involved in the whole run for it.
He is a Democratic Senator and fights against the Republican candidate.

Anne Norwood comes in his live as a intern, she is all he ever wanted, smart, pretty, loves outdoors, sweet but she is taboo. She is the daughter is a Rep, technically his counterpart. What I admire about the Norwood couple is that they allow their daughter to make her own choices and mis...more

An election year, when there's been a great deal of focus on the political climate, is a stellar time to release a novel which chronicles the romance and political missteps of a young Senator who has assumed his deceased father's seat in the hallowed halls of the Hart building.

Stephen McEvoy, it's safe to say, has been groomed for the office since birth. A political family dubbed the Kennedys of the West Coast have had a long and illustrious career in politics, and are struggling in an election...more

I had a unique opportunity to get my hands on an advance copy of a
this book. I can tell you that I have genuinely fallen head over heals
for author, Mary Whitney's characters and their pickle of a predicament.

While the book, A Political Affair is set in the corridors of power in
Washington, DC the actual heart of the story is set in the majestic mountains
and trails of Colorado. At first blush the dashing Senator Stephen McEvoy
falling for his whip smart intern, Anne Norwood made me nervous. As a fo...more

I have a soft spot for political love stories - coughPantydroppercough - so I was really excited to read this. Yes, it's the old story of a politician falling for his intern, but the way Mary Whitney has told the tale means it comes across as far from cliched.

Stephen McEvoy, heir to his family's political dynasty, has been a player in the past, but when Anne Norwood becomes an intern in his office he fights his attraction to her, not in the least because her family comes from the opposite side...more

By Mary Whitney

I was given a copy of A Political Affair by Mary Whitney in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book. What would you do when you start to have feelings for someone but that attraction could cause a major scandal and harm many people in the fallout. Stephen took over his fathers US Senate seat but he was now coming up for election. In walks a woman who could give him the desire for more Anne Norwood who becomes his intern. Couple things wro...more
Joy (joyous reads)
Ripped from the headlines, A Political Affair is a story of a US high ranking official who got involved in a clandestine affair with his intern. It seems like if there's a scandal involving sex, a Democrat is never far away. So stereotypical. What's with that party anyway? Why can't they keep their dicks in their pants?

This book is one of those fan fictions that were pulled-to-publish type of deals; and while I have no problems with authors doing their thing, I've always hoped that they would st...more

This close to the presidential election I was thrilled by the idea of taking a step outside real world of mud slinging politics. Mary Whitney paints a beautiful portrait of Washington D.C and a family who is thoroughly devoted to one another no matter what. Stephen McEvoy is a young senator who is thrust into the senate before he or his family had planned, by the unexpected death of his father. With ten years between he and Anne and the fact that she is an intern in his office it could have easi...more

I'm not really into politics so I went into this book with reservations. Especially with this year's elections, I was kind of all politic-ed out. Boy, I am so glad I read this book. I thoroughly enjoyed A Political Affair. Instead of a political rant, I got a very sweet romance. There is also a peek into the behind the scenes life of a politician and the scrutiny under which they live every day.

Stephen is taken by surprise at his reaction to seeing his new intern, Anne Norwood. He knows that dat...more

In "A Political Affair," Mary Whitney tells us the story of a young and brilliant senator, scion of a political dynasty, and of a young intern working in his office.
"Yeah," one could think, "same old, same old..." Well, not exactly. Suspend your judgment, please (and forget about the Oval Room). Are you ready to meet Stephen and Anne?

Senator Stephen McEvoy has inherited his seat from his father, but now he has to earn it, against an ultra conservative Republican opponent. And polls are not that...more

A Political Affair is a well written novel about a Senator,Stephen McAvoy running for re-election and a young intern, Ann Norwood, who works in his office. The two find themselves attracted to each other and of course this is not a good thing for either one of them as it could be detrimental to their careers to have an affair. No matter how hard they tried they find that they can not keep apart to the consternation to their families as their families are both well known and on the opposite sides...more

An intriguing, well written novel that has you from page one.
The characters and the setting are beyond what anyone would expect from a book. Ms. Whitney has totally out done herself!

I truly found myself falling for Senator Stephen McEvoy myself, but who wouldn't....with his charismatic self. Intelligent and romantic, just what every woman wants.
When Anne Norwood comes on the scene, I knew from that first few lines where things were going to go....it's just as if you are sitting there at the tabl...more

I have to say I read this book at the perfect thing. I read it during election season. I LOVED A Political Affair by Mary Whitney. I haven't had the pleasure reading anything before by Mary Whitney but after this book I will sure be on the look out for more great reads from her.

Anne Norwood is s sweet but strong and independent girl. She has followed her own path in Intern with a Democratic Senator even though her family is Republicans.

Stephen McEvoy has taken the position of Senator following...more

I very much enjoyed A Political Affair.

They don't plan it , they don't even want to act on it at first. Senator Stpehen McEvoy and his intern Anne Norwood just seem to be drawn to each other. They know there are great risk involved if they choose to be together. It's politics after all. Mary Whitney does a nice job of taking you into the life of a politician and the scandals they face being in the public eye. I love that Whitney not only weaves a story between two people but includes their fami...more

I totally enjoyed this story. It is a true “love at all costs” type of romantic story – we all want Stephen and Anne together and to make it work. As a reader I kept rooting for their love to survive it all. The story has a strong political flair to it – not at all unbelievable. In fact, probably all too believable. Sadly, it does lend itself to the general public just putting way too much emphasis on politicians’ personal lives and just how do we feel that is justified? I did enjoy this story q...more

This week I received an ARC copy of "A Political Affair." Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. This is a political romance drama with two intriguing characters--an unmarried senator and his young office intern. The story is fast paced and has clever plot twists. The story includes political history, romance, and humor to keep the reader riveted to the story. There are lots of memorable characters, some that we love and some that we love to hate. The author uses her background in pol...more

I just so love "A Political Affair" and in fact, hoping for a sequel to this marvelous story of romance, humor and politics.

Mary Whitney writes eloquently about the captivating romance between US Senator Stephen McEvoy and Anne Norwood, an intern. Anne maybe young, but she is witty, smart, intelligent (thank goodness!), and savvy. She complements Stephen and his prominent political family, such that the readers can relate to their relationship and appreciate the kind of love & admiration tha...more

Mary Whitneygave me a copy of A Political Affair. I had read an earlier version of the story when it was posted as fan fiction. This did not keep me from thoroughly enjoying Anne and Stephen's love story.

Anne is in a tough position, she is a Democrat from a politically connected Republican family who interns for a Democratic Senator during her senior year of college. To make matters more challenging, she and the Senator, Stephen, develop feelings for each other.

The timing couldn't be worse for A...more

"A Political Affair" is a well written, fast paced romance that had me intrigued from the start. Mary pens her characters believable and you will find yourself falling in love with them. I honestly thought I would be bored with this book, but it turned out to be one of the better books I've read this year. Highly recommended for all romance fans.

This review is based on a complimentary copy which was provided for an honest review.

I thought this started out well, with characters that seemed like they might overcome the cliche of a politician/intern love affair. But the story quickly got bogged down in its own details (like his family and legacy, and what became the tedious political rivalry), and soon felt like everything was just slowly crawling along. I gave up on caring about the characters and instead just skimmed thorough the second half of the book.

I finished reading 'A Political Affair' at 1 am this morning - I found that I couldn't put it down!
Mary has delivered a smart, sweet and very entertaining story - you will fall in love with Stephen as fast as Anne does. In fact, can there be more politicians like him?
If you're a political junkie like myself, you'll enjoy the action on the Senate floor and if you're not, there's plenty of action off the floor to keep you happy. This was the perfect way to spend the weekend!

Even before she graduated from law school, Mary Whitney knew she wasn’t cut out to be a real lawyer. Drawn to politics, she’s spent her career as an organizer, lobbyist, and nonprofit executive. Nothing piques her interest more than a good political scandal or romance, and when she stumbled upon writing, she put the two together. A born Midwesterner, naturalized Texan, and transient resident of Wa...more
