Sexy, Witty, & Delightful Contemporary Romance!

What a delightful read this story was & I'm glad that I got the pleasure of reading it. This was the first work by Christine Bell that I've read & from my impression of this book it won't be my last.

The blurb gives a thorough summary of the story so I won't repeat it. What I will say about Wife for Hire is that it was a great read overall. Within minutes of reading, I knew that Christine Bell is a talented author. She captivated me with...more

There's a reason the "pretending to be married" trope is a tried and true. Done right, it can be oh so much fun. The trick, in a contemporary romance, is to find a good enough reason to set up the scenario, and an equally good reason why the two principals can't just jump into bed to cut the sexual tension.

Christine Bell definitely latched onto a winning formula in Wife for Hire. The pretense is reasonable enough, Owen is getting revenge against the swindle...more

The scene where Owen Phipps and Lindy Covington meet is hilarious! I swear I almost couldn’t stop laughing.

Lindy’s seven puppies have destroyed the couch, so while cleaning the mess, she forgets her appointment with Owen. She found his advertisement by error, ad it was more than a bit strange, but she is in need of money, so she answers it and it leads to an appointment … this appointment.

From the moment Lindy opens the door, she fears Owen because of his a...more

This story didn't grab me at first. To be honest I kept getting distracted. It really didn't hold my attention. The beginning of the story seemed a little bit rushed and awkward. We meet Lindy Knight who is by far the most peculiar person I've ever read about. She's a total sap and so strange to me. There were times when I wanted to smack my forehead because she was also kind of annoying in a way.

Then we meet the gorgeous, rich, hunk of an irishman Owen Phipps. By some miracle Lindy falls upon O...more

I quite enjoyed this book despite the familiar category set-up. The humor worked for me--a lot of the exchanges as Lindy and Owen try to fake being a married couple are really funny. There's a sense of humor in later sex scenes, too, as when Owen suggests games they can play: "Boss and secretary. Doctor and nurse. Or, if you want to take it into the 21st century, scientist and equally intelligent and highly respected scientist." The book is at its best in moments like that when it moves away fro...more

Wife for Hire is an entertainingly funny read from start to finish.

Lindy and Owen hook up when Lindy answers an advert posted on Craigslist. Owen is on a mission to expose and seek revenge on the man who stole his sister’s money and dignity and for that purpose he needs a pretend wife for three weeks to accompany him to a couples retreat. After a few failed business ventures Lindy could certainly use the money….and so starts the song and dance…..of a bu...more

Wife for Hire was an all around fun and enjoyable story.

Going undercover at a couples retreat is a real problem for Owen Phipps...because he‘s not a couple. But he is desperate enough to prove a charlatan swindled his half sister Cara out of her inheritance so he placed an ad on Craigslist...for a wife...sort of.

Good-hearted Lindy Knight, saviour of old ladies and little puppies needs some quick cash to stave off losing her home. An acting job paying S20,000 for three weeks seems like a piece o...more

Another humorous hit from Christine Bell!

I am not a contemporary romance fan. It's just not my genre or choice. But Entangled Publishing has managed to get me reading—and loving!—some of them, the latest of which comes from an author I already love, Christine Bell. Bell's steampunky time-traveling Stormy Gale stories are awesome if you're into that kind of thing so I was truly thrilled to find out she was publishing a contemp with one of my favorite publishers.

I wasn't too sure what to expect w...more

A Craigslist ad for a wife for hire. Was Lindy that desperate.... Yes she was. She had a sweet old lady, Melba living with her, seven puppies named after the seven dwarfs and a house that needed the mortgage to he paid or else she would be looking at a foreclosure notice. Once Lindy meets Owen she's quite skeptical of him but as soon as she gets the reason behind his scheme she's all in and
$20,000 is a lot a money to pass up. Lindy finds herself in a beautiful resort with a sexy man hotter than...more

delightful, funny and lovely.
i thought it would be another fake fiancee wife or else. but there is a story and not one. reading about the reason, how he is falling in love and his slowliness. what i fould great during my reading. the book focus on Lindy. and it felt light because it is not like the other book in which they center about a conflicted alpha male. no here i grew in "love" witg lindy her selfless. yeah owen had a problem with love but it was just insecurity.
i really love this book. i...more

I loved this fun, sexy, fast-paced romp! It was just what this girl needed after a couple of stressful days!

Owen is after Nico, the man who conned his sister out of her life savings, but it’s not just her savings he took...the man broke her heart too. Going to the police isn’t going to work, since she gave Nico the money. No, Owen needs to catch him in the act of conning someone else. To do that, he needs a “wife”.

Financially in trouble, Lindy, looking for a job in the wanted ads on Craigslist,...more

I have no clue why, but stories that start with “He needed a wife…” always get to me. I like the idea of two unlikely people getting together. Although, it’s never a realistic scenario (sadly even in this one) doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it, right? Cause I sure did. I liked the characters and I liked the scenario, but there were a lot of things that fit the status-quo of this type of story-line. He’s rich, her money...more

I really enjoyed reading Wife for Hire. I read it in one day… it is so easy to read and it flowed really well. I loved Owen and Lindy together – I loved their back & forth with each other. I felt that Christine Bell’s writing was well done and the pace was really nice. I didn't really feel connected to Owen particularly, but it didn't really...more

At first I was a bit hesitant about the story line but almost immediately the heroine's wit and sarcasm drew me in. Lindy is a hopeless romantic and kind soul. Owen is hardened by life and to him love never last. Owen hires Lindy to pose as his wife in order to get revenge on his sisters ex. The attraction is there even though both fight it for different reasons. The story was lovely and I will read more by the author.

The story was just like the one I read not long ago. But it was okay. I just don't get why women tend to profess their feelings first. Or why profess at all when you know the other party is afraid to commit. Why set yourself up for heart ache? But in books, all the stupidity pay off because in the end the male and female lead characters ended up together. So much for a fairy tale ending.
Sarah Nicolas
Lindy is totally adorable and just the right combination of fierce and awkward. If you love a heroine who doesn’t take crap from a man, but still has a positive outlook on love, this is the book for you! And how the hell can you not love a hero who puts his whole life on hold to avenge his little sister? And to top it off, he has an Irish accent. *sigh*

Such a fun book!Lindy is quirky, emotional, and enjoys life to its fullest. Owen. *sigh* Oh, Owen. Irish, gorgeous, loyal, hot, and terrified of falling in love. What more can you ask for? Seeing him realize that while Lindy may not be the woman he wants for his life but is exactly what he needs is sigh-worthy.
Nicole
I can't help it.. I loved it! Lindy was hilarious and adorable, and Owen was a hot piece of A! Got a tad boring in a few parts, but overall I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an entertaining feel good romance that holds your attention beautifully! <3 picking put heresy of her books stat!

I just had the best afternoon with this one!!!!

Here is story with heart! Add an adorable heroine, a hunky hero and a story with a fast moving plot and you've got reader "gold". It was a quick, steamy and enjoyable read that left me wanting more! I loved the couples "games"! Very funny.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Not only is the writing great, but it had many laugh out loud moments. Loved it.
This is first time i read a book from this great Author, but definitely not the last one, can not wait to read her other books.

This book wasn't too bad but I didn't enjoy it as much as Bell's other book. It fell into the trap of the woman -needing - to be told that the man was in love with her, which is definitely an overused plotline.
Aera Coltheart
I likes this story a good read in an afternoon but not to deep to make me love it that much. The humor between them was good and the development okay.
A good read when waiting for time to pass.

the ending felt rushed and kind of blah. there were some really funny parts. I liked the characters well enough. I guess it was just the ending that left me feeling short changed
