A contemporary romance which really touched my heart. It was written very well. A very engaging book about two people that meet under the worst conditions and then make the most of it.

Well to say this story starts off with a bang is putting it mildly. The author had me hooked from the very beginning! There were so many wonderful lines that I highlighted. I'll list them below for you to enjoy as well.

Cassandra by Starlight is written by Susan MacNicol, Susan’s writing is great, the entire story and plot flows smoothly, the main characters were well written and you get enough information to get to know everyone, for me it was one of those stories that you don’t want to put down. This novel has elements of romance, suspense and some laughter. Cassandra by Starlight was refreshing to read and I have to say Susan MacNicol did a terrific job and kept me entertained right till the end of the book.

Cassandra is having a bad day and it’s about to get worse; first she wakes up with a bit of a headache due to the wine she drank last night, then on her way to work she gets stuck in slow moving traffic, she even pulls out her kindle knowing she may be there for awhile. And before she knows it something or should I say someone crashes right on top of her car. All Cassandra can remember is a man telling her to hold on. In the hospital we meet Ian a doctor who has suffered loss and feels bad for Cassandra and attraction to her. Then we meet the brother (Bennett) of the man who landed on the car who also feels it is his responsibility to make sure Cassandra is okay. Bennett who is not only from money happens to be an actor and is doing quite well for himself. But he has some family issues/secrets. He also continues to see Cassandra and here begins a great start to a passionate romantic relationship or so they try.

But as I said not all is roses with this relationship, Bennet has a stalker and it appears both Cassandra and Bennett are receiving calls from unknown numbers.

We also learn the Bennett’s family has plans for him and really would like him to marry and have children with a woman who his father knows is much better suited for him. To them Cassandra will always be a reminder of how they lost their younger son.

Cassandra does worry about the age difference as she is 10 years older than Bennett, and if that wasn’t enough Bennett is also from a well off family, he is talented and desired from women all over. Can Cassandra get past all of this?

So put all this together and you find yourself caught up in a pretty fascinating story.

I have rated Cassandra by Starlight a 4 star rating, and would defiantly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romance/suspense and touch of humour story.

I'm not one to read romances, like, ever - with the exception of Dorothy Eden's "Winterwood" from 800 years ago or so. I was looking through a pile of used books at a garage sale, found the cover art interesting and didn't put the book down. Sometimes, that is how it works out with a book.

I first heard about Cassandra By Starlight from the author herself. She had Tweeted about female on male rape, which caught my attention as a male survivor of a female predator. I was looking through a pile of used books at a garage sale, found the cover art interesting and didn't put the book down. Sometimes, that is how it works out with a book.

I first heard about Cassandra By Starlight from the author herself. She had Tweeted about female on male rape, which caught my attention as a male survivor of a female predator. When I responded to her and identified myself as a survivor, she admitted to me that my own story had been used as source material for a section of the book. I was not sure what to think at first. Surprise and, umm, surprise. I decided to read it and see what she had created. I added the book to my Nook and then let it sit there a bit. It took me a while to get the courage to read this book.

Now, knowing that part of a horrible experience from my life was to be found masked within the pages didn't make it easier to get started. However, Susan created believable and likable characters that you get attached to quickly. I saw friends in the personality and life experiences that made up both Cassandra and Bennett. They fought and loved and survived. I know that story. Its very real.

The pages dealing with both the rape and the aftermath were realistic from both the perspective of both perpetrator and victim. She (the stalker and rapist) was creepy and disgusting and realistic. It was also nice to see supportive friends included and a real reaction to a traumatic event portrayed in the book. Too often, a similar scenario with the same gender mix is played for comedic effect. Male survivors of rape are real people, with real emotions. Susan did not create a caricature.

I don't want to reveal any more about the story. What I've said above can be found on the author's own blog, so I feel comfortable discussing as much.

Despite what both of the main characters endured, they do find happiness. While at the core, Cassandra By Starlight is a love story, it is also a story about transcending adversity and multiple traumas. It is about making a life in spite of what happens to us, not because of what happens to us.

Read it. You won't be disappointed.(less)

This was an interesting book. I enjoyed reading about Cassandra and Bennett. I do feel that the author should have removed some of the major details behind each new person that was introduced. I felt that the author had to justify the existence of each character.

I was in the mood for a good romance when I picked up Cassandra by Starlight to read and I was not at all disappointed. Cassie is a Londoner, divorced and lives on her own, and she is oh-so-tired of the dating mill. She has a terrible accident that almost kills her after which not one but two charming and handsome men become quite enamored with her- Ian and Bennett. Ian is one of the doctors there at the hospital with a selfless, caring soul. He is fairly quiet and is someone you can always count on. Bennett, on the other hand is a temperamental yet sensitive and emotional actor who loves the fame and fortune his career brings. Both of them fall in love with Cassie, but how should she choose? And who will she choose - Sweet, dependable, yet a little bit (dare I say it?) boring Ian or younger, energetic, and dramatic Bennett? (Personally, as a reader, I love Bennett but IRL? Probably Ian.:)

At any rate, the mysteries take off from there and the storyline has plot twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your proverbial seat. Cassie is such an appealing character that you cannot help but relate to her. Ms. Mac Nicol does a great job making the 'bad guys' appropriately evil and believable.

The Bad: There were a few blah spots in the plot but overall it was well paced. Ms. Mac Nicol seemed to draw out scenes that could have been a little faster for my taste. Perhaps she was trying to flesh out the character's and their relationships more, I'm not sure. Occasionally I felt like I'd missed something and would try to go back and find it, only to discover that that part of the storyline was not there to miss. It was not enough of a problem though, to take away from my overall enjoyment of the book.

The Snuggly: The flirting throughout the story was fun and enticing. The sensuality and sex was appropriate for the genre without being crude or too erotic and it served to further the storyline rather than just being gratuitous. Don't worry though, it is sufficiently hot to keep your complete attention.

Final Thoughts: While I mentioned a couple of things I wish were different, overall I really enjoyed this book. It is what it says it is - a Contemporary Romance - plus a little more. Cassandra by Starlight is a book for ages 18 and older due to the tasteful sensuality and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good romance novel. Enjoy!(less)

Cassandra by Starlight is a wonderful blend of contemporary romance, romantic suspense and mystery thriller, which grabbed my attention from the first page and didn't let go till I read the last page. With compelling characters, scintillating dialogue and a fairly fast pace, Susan Mac Nicol crafted a story quite unlike anything I've read before. Set in contemporary London, Ms. Mac Nicol provides a good backdrop for her story with a lead character who's an up and coming actor in both television and theater.

Cassandra "Cassie" Wallace is literally minding her own business on her way to work when a man jumps off a bridge and lands on her car as it passes on the highway below. Needless to say this "accident" leads to the young man's death, Cassie being severely injured, Cassie's car being totalled and a trip to the local emergency room and hospital. Determined to make the best of her situation, Cassie is surprised when Bennett Saville, the young man's brother, insists on visiting her in the hospital and becoming her friend. He feels responsible for her situation. Cassie never thought she'd fall in love with the younger man.

Bennett Saville can't believe his brother jumped off a bridge and injured an innocent bystander. Determined to make things right, Bennett is surprised when he finds himself attracted to the injured woman. He also can't believe the woman is 10 years older than he is; she's beautiful, has a lush figure and younger than he does. Determined to become her friend, he didn't plan on falling in love with her.

The scenes between Cassie and Bennett are great; they have perfect physical and verbal chemistry, they are equally good at give and take. While neither planned on falling in love, they soon find themselves out on dates and confiding in each other. When they become lovers, it's a natural progression as their friendship deepens. Ms. Mac Nicol did a great job developing both Cassie and Bennett in this story; they really are the perfect match for each other. Both strong in spirit, when life hands them something too difficult to handle on their own; they know they can depend on each other for help and wisdom.

There are two mysteries which take place within the pages of this story; the first being what drove Bennett's brother Eric to commit suicide by jumping off the bridge and then the mystery of a "stalker" who decides Bennett is the man she wants just as Bennett and Cassie's relationship begins. As Bennett, Cassie, the police and their friends work on helping to keep everyone safe; you really have to wonder if they're both going to make it out alive. Ms. Mac Nicol did a great job with the mysteries involved in this story; I kept turning the pages, thinking I had finally gotten to the bottom of the mystery, only to realize there were more clues to solve.

The secondary characters were great from Cassie's sister Amanda to Bennett's friends Dylan and Alex. They all contributed something important to the story and kept the pace moving smoothly. We even get to know Bennett's estranged parents fairly well as their relationship becomes a part of the story. The two villains of the story, two mysteries therefore two villains, are very well developed and provide an interesting contrast between the criminal sort and the criminally psychotic.

Will Cassie and Bennett solve both mysteries and come out alive? And just how intense will their relationship get? You'll have to read Cassandra by Starlight to find out. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of Ms. Mac Nicol's work. (less)

Cassandra on the other hand is uncomfortable with the whole thing, especially since he's years younger than her, which causes havoc with her life.
I quite enjoyed this book.

The obvious humor in the writing and with Cassandra especially made me laugh a couple of times. Even though she's old, she is still a good looking, smart and funny lady. So for me, I don't get. Why she'd always end up with weirdos, I really liked her character. I also liked Bennett and for some reason the family drama hooked me from the start. I was looking forward to how it would unfold. Although the first part gave the impression that it was Ian she was going to be falling for, but somewhere along the way it turned to Bennett.

I liked how it went in first person with both her and Bennett, and well with Ian at first too. It showed the contrast between the characters, since Bennett is so serious with his family, work and friends. But Cassandra was lonely but pretty much hilarious on her take of things. Even the traffic jam, she'd made a light spin on it and liked it a lot.

The writing itself was clever, simple and quick to read. It was also enjoyable and gripping so you'd find yourself hooked from the very start. Great read!

At first, Bennet feels that he owes it to Cassandra to make sure that she is fine since his brother put her life in jeopardy. But soon that changes into something else. As he gets to know the girl, he finds it so easy to fall in love with her. But with his past, a sick mother and his life always under the media scrutiny, he has more on his plate than he can handle. Add a crazy stalker to the mix! A stalker who calls him a number of times only to play music in the background and leave him a number of gifts. The stalker also seems to follow him around the world. Will he ever get his life under control again?

The plot is quite interesting with quite a few sub-plots and few of them are quite mysterious. The death of Bennet’s brother and the identity of his stalker are what keep the reader wondering about ‘what really happened’. The book also deals with a life of an actor, a serious illness and the different facets of relationships. My favourite part of the book was really the relationships portrayed. Cassie’s relationship with both Bennet and Ian, Bennet’s relationship with his colleagues/friends and his family – they are all very different from each other. It is these differences that actually complement each other and bring a balance and charm into the book.

Susan Mac Nicol has also managed to develop quite a few interesting characters. Cassandra is a strong character who has a very practical and optimistic outlook on life. Bennet’s past actually makes him another strong character. Ian is the sweet guy whom you will absolutely love. Besides these people who take the center stage in the book, I also liked the characters of Bennet’s father and Bella. And my, the stalker is really a psycho!

I have a few issues about the book though. For me, I felt that the story could have been a bit fast paced than it is. In order to give some time for the relationships to grow, the author has spanned out the events over a period of time. Sometimes the jump from stage to another - from one chapter to the other seemed rather abrupt, losing the rhythm of the story. Also, I felt as if the climax did not really do justice to the buildup.

Overall, it was quite an experience to read this book and I would recommend this to romance lovers. It is certainly worth one time read.

I really enjoyed reading Cassandra by Starlight. Cassandra Wallace is just an average middle aged woman who while going to work one morning had a misfortune accident that changed her enter life. Cassie is an innocent victim of a suicide. She is motoring along in crappy traffic when her can is nailed and sends it her car spinning out of control. At the beginning of Cassandra by Starlight, fate throws Cassie and Bennett together in the most traumatic of ways. Cassie is gutsy, strong and determined. Every once in awhile I come across a book on a book tour that I never would have found on my own that I knew I would love to read. Thank goodness for Innovative Book Online Tours, for introducing me to "Cassandra by Starlight" because I really enjoyed reading about the handsome star, Bennett and the beautiful, courageous, Cassie.
I read the book while on vacation when I couldn't get on the computer that much since I was not around any internet services. (My Mom lives out in the country and doesn't need internet since she has no computer...Eeek! What is a avid reader/blogger supposed to do...well..read of course) =)
Cassie is minding her own business driving to work, when she has a body fall into her car while she is driving. She ends up in the hospital...while the person who fell into her car, ends up committing suicide. The man's family is contacted and one of the family members is the famous actor, Bennett Saville, who drops everything to identify his brother for his family and also make sure the woman that was injured is okay.
Bennett, of course expected to fall in love with Cassie, the sexy, older woman who his brother happened to put in the hospital.
He can't stop thinking about her and wants to know more about her. His father doesn't want him getting involved with the older woman who probably just wants him for his money. His father would rather he hook up with his ex-girlfriend.
Bennett has never a great relationship with his father since what his father put him through when he was a child. He will make up his own mind who he wants to be with.
Cassie is dealing with getting back in the groove of things after the accident, when she has another dilemma happen to her thanks to Bennett's family again.
Bennet has other issues as well, but he will do anything to be with the woman he loves and so will another woman who wants Bennett as her own.
I do not want to give away too much about "Cassandra by Starlight", but let's just say it has a lot going on. Both Bennett and Cassie go through a lot in this book. I felt terrible for Cassie the first half of the book and the last half I was upset for Bennett. Actually...for Bennett, I had a more sickening feeling for him because the pain he went through. In the end though, it all worked out.
Love can conquer anything and this book definitely proved it.
Cassie was one strong-willed character who was amazing. I clicked with her as soon as she was introduced. She went through hell and still managed to be the strongest character out of the book.
Bennett was a pain at times, especially when keeping secrets from Cassie, but I had to give it to him because he had his reasons. Cassie could throw a tantrum.
Let's just say, also, Cassie knew how to keep Bennett in check, especially in the bedroom. =)
I loved Sue Mac Nicol's writing and how she kept the suspense and romance going. One incident would happen and she would make sure to play it out where it fixed it self. She never had too much going on at the same time where you got lost.
I look forward to reading more books from Sue soon.
I recommend this book for readers who love contemporary romance and love a little suspense to it because believe me, Sue gives you some suspense to the story.

I picked up this book on the recommendation of a friend and because I had got wind that the male protagonist Bennett Saville was based on my celebrity crush Benedict Cumberbatch (how could I say no to that, to my most pleasant surprise I was in for a treat. "Cassandra by Starlight" turned out to be a fun, enticing adventure populated with delightful witty characters and hot sexy romance. This novel takes place over a whopping 18+months. Sound pretty scary right? Not so in this case. Mac Nicol tactfully skips over the times where the action doesn’t relate to the plot of the story. The progression of time is marked via the advancement of the relationship between the main characters. As a reader, you never feel a lack of information, yet you also don’t get bored being drawn out in long gaps of the story where nothing relevant happens. The characters: Bennett and Cassie are both very strong willed and independant individuals. They both have overcome sad childhoods but didnt let it break their spirits like some people would. I found Bella and Edward to be awful people and was glad when they weren't in the book. I did love Vince and Ian. They were very important characters in the novel for figuring out the stalker issue with Bennett. I also felt that Alec and Dylan were good for some humor and laughs in the novel.

What I enjoyed: I loved seeing the characters develop their relationship and see a realistic approach to dating someone famous. The fears Cassie had were fears I would have had as well. I would have always compared myself to other people Bennett had dated and wondered "why is he with me?" I loved the dynamic that these characters had with their friends who were more like their family. They would fight and make up like we do in real life. I also liked the jumping through time to see that their relationships are all thriving.

What I would have liked to see differrent: maybe a little more consistant sub plotting throughout the book. I felt like each sub plot was created, dealt with and then solved....repeat and rinse. Its not saying I didnt enjoy the sub plots but it seemed we just kept having so many sub plots I got a little bit tired of them. I wish there would have just been the stalker, Bella drama, and maybe Bennett's mother sickness.

All in all I did enjoythe book and if their was another book written about this couple I would certainly read it. The author has left many things undone so another book could be possible.

This is an author I've not read before and I will probably not be interested in reading anything else by her. It was very slow and extremely predictable. I was quite shocked that 66% into the book (I have a kindle) it finally surprised me and for the first time wanted to actually continue reading without being frustrated and wanting to read something else. I just want to say Awww! I loved how protective Ian was of Cassandra when she was in the hospital and afterward. I found it interesting that the author chose to use schizophrenia for one of the characters. I have worked with schizophrenic people and it is hard to deal with, I love that the author used this unusual characterization.

Shelves: awww-heartwarming

I liked this one, but it seemed to drag on after a while. Liked the characters and how the age difference truly didn't matter. The kidnapping scene was creepy. I guess I would have liked have seen more the suspense because that really brought me back into the story

This author holds you all the way through the story. I love how she writes. The plot is tricky and complex. Its not easy, which I love! I hate to figure the book out early on. The two mains are perfectly fit together. Cassie is strong, gutsy and I wish I was her! I hate spoiler alerts because it gives something away and you dont want that. It would ruin the book. Worth every minute to read this story!
