Meet Lizzie. She's 31 and having a midlife crisis. So she bought a house. Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
But she gets more than she bargained for. She didn't expect the engagement ring, the lazy cat, the stalker or the drop dead gorgeous handyman. But she did already have the crazy family and sex-crazed Grandma. So when she decides to find the ring's rightful

It started with a noticeable level of wit, punchiness, and flair. It moved quickly. I wanted to know how it finished.

But after a few chapters I had to close the book and walk away. It is the bane of free, downloadable books that writers are convinced that their personal reserve of literary acumen is enough to carry them. They are wrong. Their prose may ooze with cleverness and their story may be solid, but typos, misspellings, empty nouns, excessive modifiers, misplaced prepositions, missing pun

This was the first installment of the Westport Mysteries featuring Elizabeth "Lizzie" and her wacky family. In the midst of a mid-life crisis, Lizzie purchases her first home - a real fixer upper that comes with the big, ginger cat "Cat" left by the previous owner, Avis.

Not knowing a thing about home renovations Lizzie is forced to hire Riley, the local handyman who also happens to be 6'3" and gorgeous. While replacing the floorboards in the attic, they discover a packet of old love letters add

I give this book 5 stars, and will review it in a second, but first - - Note to editor. There were many grammatical errors in the Kindle version. This should never happen to a book that an author has worked so hard on. This is a problem that should be taken care of by proof readers and/or editors. This is un-forgivable, but not the fault of the author.

Now on to the review:
This was a great read. I loved the characters. Lizzie did what I have always wanted to do, buy an old house and fix it up. M

Meet spunky false-teeth-wearing grandma, Danny and his older lover Drew, Molly whom Lizzie thinks is much better looking than herself, Lizzie, and Riley the guy Lizzie hired to remodel part of her "new" house.

Someone is stalking Lizzie. She more than once sees a black sedan following her and it's the same sedan that's been parking across the street from her house. The neighbor Helen says the sedan only started showing up after Lizzie moved in. Because of its presence along with Danny, Drew and

I enjoyed everything about the book

I expected far less from this book and received far more. The characters were both interesting and admirable...and believable as well. Every plot twist was logical in retrospect. I do not want to give away anything, but let me just say that a book which includes a gay couple, a lesbian couple, an arrogant and abusive cheating boyfriend, a homophobic Mega-church, and a couple of 80 year olds caught going at it in the church restroom has to be interesting!

This is a really good little story, with a really in-depth plot and characters who are not one dimensional. The protagonist has a really crummy boyfriend, a to die for gorgeous handyman and a crazy stalker who really is rather creepy. How she manages to side-step trouble and stay alive is a really edge of the seat ride, and makes for an unforgettable read. I'd highly recommend this one, and am already working on book 2 in the series!

This novel reads like a TV sitcom. The main character Lizzie buys a house with hidden secrets. She moves into this house which also comes with a lazy cat and a stalker. Lizzie has a quirky grandma and a stereotypical gay brother. If you are expecting Shakespeare, this novel is not for you; instead, the story serves its purpose of pure entertainment. Read it like you'd watch a Hallmark Movie.

Fun, light read but....

I don't know who proofread this book, but misspelling and misused words drove me nuts.
that being said, it was a fluffy, romance/mystery, good for an evening's entertainment.

I've nearly stopped on this book several times because of grammar/spelling errors that make me queasy! But the story is good, and if it is ever edited well, it would receive at least 4 stars from me.

Part comedy, part mystery, a little suspense and a lot of romance makes up this light-hearted romp.

Read full review in the 2014 February issue of InD’tale Magazine.

Loved it!
romance, thriller, mystery all in one!
I always say that if I can picture the leads in a story, then the author has done a brilliant job! I was picturing the two lead characters in this book from the start.
Im impressed and will look out for more of Beth Prentice's books.

Actually 3. 1/2. Stars

I enjoyed the scenery, the different characters and the wonderful message she sent to the reader. My only criticism would be it dragged a little so I skipped some pages.

Great story line, easy to follow, realistic characters. Mystery and tension built in with a little bit of a love story, too.

“But love isn’t a choice,” I said. “No, you’re right, it’s not. But what you do with it is,” said Drew. “You believe in the fairytale of love, you’re caught up in the romance of it. But what happens when the honeymoon period is over and you have to live with your choices. Not everyone can do that.” 0 likes
