In Black and Blintzes Growing Up Not Quite Jewish On the Lower East Side, Ms. Greenlee succeeds in sketching stories from her childhood with the perspective of her younger self. Through a series of vignettes, Ms Greenlee shows us what life was like for her when she was younger. Ms Greenlee relates the character-forming incidents in her life without hindsight interpretation; she merely states what happened. Some of the recollections are painful: The Fight, No tears for Frankie, and The Divorce. ...more
